"Powers up. Some membranes don't work properly. Modulation lever is disconnected. Back up batteries may be expired."

I never noticed the warning on back that reads, "Caution. Do not use tape jack at same time as sync in jack."  Curious.

Boards of Canada - Boqurant + 5.9.78 (COVER by Pece)

Picks up at 1:44.

"All sounds were created on Yamaha AN1x, except the base intro patch (made on daHornet vst: http://nusofting.liqihsynth.com/freep...). The beat was produced in Reaper. Everything was mixed in Reaper also. I used some wow and flutter effect, VHS tape emulation, the mix was even sent to my trustworthy AKAI cassette deck (without recording to tape but using cassette tape adaptor) and recorded again from its output. The tuning of the track is 31.3 cents higher from a standard A440 tuning."

Music by Wire

"There is an entire genre of music dedicated to breathing by switches, plugs and wires. Think 1970's Moog synthesizers. Pink Floyd, Allan Parsons, ELP? etc."

Open.Theremin - Open Source DIY Theremin

"Short trailer mixing 2 videos about Open.Theremin & Retro Gaming.

I experimented with Open.Theremin, an opensource & DIY Theremin produced in Switzerland, by Gaudi Lab : http://www.gaudi.ch/OpenTheremin/

Open.Theremin is a great little theremin instrument, linear and playable. Compared to professional theremins, such as Moog Epro, there's a lack of response of the volume antenna, some latency, higher sensitivity to its environnement. Nonetheless, i think it's the cheapest and most playable theremin currently available. And it's totally open source, so you can help improve it :-) !

Open.Theremin.UNO is very sensitive to its environment and bad grounding. There's a filtering on the volume (which makes its response a bit slower than Moog theremin) to make it less sensitive. Nonetheless, the power adapter you will use will affect it a lot. If you have noise problems, try out different adaptors. USB power supply can be cheap and therefore not very recommended for that.

While preparing the video, i got the chance to do some beta testing with the new version, Open.Theremin v3.This newer version -v3- has a lot of great new functionalities: easy to built, easy calibration (all automatic!), manual fine tuning for adjustments (really great if you use Carolina Eyck's fingering technique), 3 registers, 8 different sound settings.

A huge thanks to:
- Urs Gaudenz (director of Gaudi LAb)for creating Open.Theremin & great collaboration
- Alain Gilliéron for helping me building Open.Theremin.UNO v2
- Thierry Frenkel for helping me to calibrate Open.Theremin.UNO v2
- « etheremin » FB's group, for sharing their experiments on the Open.Theremin.UNO v2 with me.
- Sylvain Ehinger for restoring my "Arcade Table"

NB : intro music "In the Cave" (composed by Therminal C) was played on an Epro Theremin.
