Roland System-100 Moogerfooger

Published on May 13, 2017 djthomaswhite

"DIY Roland System-100 filter (Curetronic pcb) version of a Moogerfooger with Oakley Sound LFO (shapeable Triangle and Pulse), relay bypass and plenty of ins and outs. This resonant filter is total vanilla tone compared to the Moog ladder design, but sometimes you just want that smoothness. It has a switchable high pass filter with 4 settings. The LFO can be switched out and replaced with an external signal. The LFO out can be routed to other Foogers or modular gear. There is a Low-High switch controlling rate on the LFO and you can change the shape of the LFO (ramp to trip to saw) or the width of the pulse by turning a knob. LFO waveshape is controlled by a switch. This was a fun one to build and took some time to get right. On to a better video and custom panel legending design."

Intellijel Dixie II+: Hard Sync & Flip (LMS: Eurorack Expansion Preview)

Published on May 13, 2017 Learning Modular

"In this movie I demonstrate creating a hard sync patch where the master is the single VCO that may be in a small core system or a semi-modular synth like the Moog Mother-32, and use it to drive a second oscillator such as the Dixie II+. For those who wonder exactly what’s going on when you use sync, I focus heavily on what’s happening with the waveform output. I also look at the Dixie II+’s unique Flip function, where the waveform reverses rather than resets when it received a sync pulse from its master, resulting in a new waveform with twice the overall cycle length of the master. For more information, see http://learningmodular.com/intellijel....

This movie is one of four on the Intellijel Dixie II+ from my online course, "Learning Modular Synthesis: Eurorack Expansion" (available July 2017). For more details including the list of movies and an overview of the course, visit: http://learningmodular.com/lms-eurora..."

Yamaha DX7, Roland D-50 & Korg M1 - 80's synth Demo, Emerson, Lake & Palmer, Pink Floyd Part 2

"Want to know how capable Yamaha DX7, Roland D-50 and Korg M1 synthesisers are ? Can the DX7 keep up with the mighty D-50 and M1? Watch this video to find out!!!

This is a demo of Yamaha DX7, Roland D-50 and Korg M1 synthesisers, the 80’s 3 iconic digital sysnthesizers showcased side by side. Part 1 will compare e.piano, piano and pipe organ sounds.

Yamaha DX7 Synthesizer – The first commercially successful digital synthesizer with Frequency Modulation synthesis
a. Released in 1983
b. FM synthesis based on 32 algorithms to design a particular sound
c. A sinewave generating oscillator with an envelope is called operator
d. No filters, you create all necessary harmonics/ inharmonics from a sine wave

Roland D-50 Linear Synthesizer – The first commercially successful digital synthesizer with a fully digital subtractive synthesis, a virtual analog synthesizer and 8 bit sampled waveforms
a. Released in 1987
b. Digitally emulated subtractive synthesis with typical waveforms such as sawtooth, square etc
c. PCM section includes 8 bit sampled waveforms
d. Each unit is called partial
e. Structures to combine different partial
f. Digital filter with resonance

Korg M1 Work Station – The first commercially successful digital workstation with 16 bit sampled waveforms for acoustic sounds and drum kits, as well as an 8 track sequencer
a. Subtractive synthesis with 16 bit waveforms
b. Digital filter without resonance
c. 1 oscillator mode for 16 polyphony (2 oscillator per voice for 8 polyphony)
d. A well-designed workstation for music creation

Electric Piano
Korg M1 – Softer with a bit of sharp attack
Roland D-50 – Softer and mellow
Yamaha DX7 – Power DX7 Signature E.Piano patch with solid and sharp attack and a smooth chorusing effect

Piano
Korg M1 – Modified piano patch with amazing realism due to its 16 bit waveforms
Roland D-50 – No compared
Yamaha DX7 – Power DX7 Signature Grand Piano patch with amazing realism at lower and mid notes

Pipe Organ
Korg M1 – Factory Patch Pipe Organ with realism
Roland D-50 – Factory Patch, Cathedral with realism
Yamaha DX7 – Power DX7 Signature Soft Cathedral patch with realism
Yamaha DX7 – Power DX7 Signature Cathedral patch that faithfully emulates the pipe organ sound from Yes, Close To The Edge"

Funky Pupper

Published on May 13, 2017 Praxis Axis

"A tune based on Funky Drummer (James Brown), maybe the most sampled break in hip hop and breakbeat (etc.). Just having a bit of fun with it on an MPC 1000 (while it lasts . . . about to be replaced by the MPC Live YEHAAH). The dogs kept coming in to the studio so I thought, well they'd better be in the clip.

As always I'm using my most loved Moog Voyager and a Minibrute which has been in the closet for the last two years until I just recently and very flukily repaired it."

RX-5 / JU-06 / D-550 / SDE-1000 Sketch

Published on May 13, 2017 Zachary Berry

"Messing around with the older version of Auxy (which still has MIDI out functionality) triggering the RX-5 on drums, JU-06 on bass and D-550 for chords. The clap of the RX-5 is routed through the Roland SDE-1000 delay. I wasn't super happy with the end result but it was still neat to see how the iPad can play with hardware so I figured I'd uploaded it anyway."
