Boredbrains in Studio: Patching Eurorack with Little Black Rain Clouds
Published on Mar 2, 2018 Boredbrain Music
"We got together with Damion Champe (aka. Little Black Rain Clouds) to record a musical improvisation with his eurorack modular system, while introducing him to our new custom-designed 3.5mm patch cables. He also showed us his awesome Clone Garden Drum, incorporating it into the jam."
Curious if the Clone Garden is by Folktek or a clone of Folktek's work.
Update: I checked with Folktek and they let me know, the Clone Garden is not theirs.
Five Thoughts For Eurorack Modular
Published on Mar 2, 2018 John L Rice
"While this isn't a demo of the ADDAC214 VC Rotator, all five of these pieces use it in the patch. See patch details below:
Unless otherwise noted the following terms indicate:
ADDAC214 - ADDAC System ADDAC214 VC Rotator sequential switch
VCO - Synth Tech E330 Multimode VCO
EG - Modcan Quad Envelope
VCA - Bubble Sound VCA4p
Voice - VCO+EG+VCA
Mixer - Circuit Abbey Unify + expander
Sequencer - Division6 Mattson SQ816
Clock - Erica Synths Black VC Clock v2
LFO - Erica Synths Black Octasource
E102 - Synth Tech E102 Quad Temporal Shifter
QPQ - Instruo Quad Performance Quantizer
Delay - Mooer Ocean Machine pedal
Reverb - Mooer Ocean Machine and TC Electronic T2 pedals
1) Initial Test 0:00
A typical 4 voice patch I do with this system is to process a CV sequence through the E102 shift register and then through the QPQ to provide CV and gates for the Voices. In this case the ADDAC214 is inserted between the E102 and QPQ so that when clocked at a faster rate the QPQ gets channel updates more often and fires the Voices more often. I'm using a modified Doepfer A-182-1 Switched Multiple + Doepfer A-180-2 Multiple to switch between the different Clock outputs. Delay used was the Synth Tech E580 Resampling Mini Delay.
New Mutable Instruments Plaits Macro-oscillator Eurorack Module
Published on Mar 2, 2018
"A basic look at Plaits macro-oscillator and some of my favourite modes."
via CONTROL
"Plaits is the spiritual successor of Mutable Instruments’ best-selling sound source, Braids. Not just a mkII version: its hardware and software have been redesigned from scratch. Just like its predecessor, it offers direct access to a large palette of easily tweakable sounds, covering the whole gamut of synthesis techniques.
SIMPLICITY FIRST
Gone are the screen, menu system, hidden settings, and the long list of sometimes redundant synthesis models. Thanks to additional CV inputs, and to the use of 3 timbre-shaping parameters per model, Plaits is straightforward to use, and much closer to the ideal of one synthesis technique = one model. What were fragmented islands of sound in Braids are now part of a continuum of sounds.
READY FOR PERCUSSION
Patch a trigger generator or sequencer in Plaits’ trigger input and instantly use the module as a percussive source thanks to its built-in virtual low-pass gate (LPG).
New Steffcorp 2600 VCO (ARP 2600) DIY Kit
via Thonk
"The Steffcorp 2600 VCO is an analogue oscillator with full voltage control based on the 4027-1 ’VCO-2’ oscillator used in the ARP 2600. It’s not just a copy however, we have gone to great lengths to bring it into the 21st century. A much needed precision reference voltage was added, as well as buffers and a few other goodies. Going SMT offered the means of improving the PCB-layout even further, as well as a selection of easy-to-source parts. No more treasure hunts and extravaganza prices! On top of this, a good bit of time was spent on analysing and comparing modern parts to find the best matches for the original part specifications."
You can find some additional modules by Steffcorp announced in this post.

Digitone is a very special eight voice digital synthesizer. It combines a modernized FM implementation with a classic subtractive synthesis signal flow, making it a powerful source of highly unique tones and timbres. Simple a FM Synthesizer, FM Synth."
Antimatter Audio - Crossfold
Published on Mar 2, 2018 DivKidVideo
"Anitmatter Audio prove they're not messing around with design or tone with the Crossfold! A dual input crossfading, mega wide ranging wave folding, distorting, output VCAing module that just works beautifully and sounds great. With the range down there's a huge wide sweet spot of softer more "woody" folding and with the range up you've 8 stages of folding that will go from soft to aggressive and then some. There's a lot of TZFM (through zero frequency modulation) style tones to be had with this too. A great little gem for a system. As you can tell I'm impressed. Fire away with any comments / questions I'll be sure to reply. Cheers!"
