Modal Skulpt Synth Black Edition Preview

Published on Sep 23, 2018 Ask.Audio

"In this short video Rounik Sethi, editor of Ask.Audio, cornered two Modal employees in a cafe in Bristol. Without any means of escape they proceeded to reveal the working prototype of the black edition of the upcoming synthesizer, Skulpt.

Unfortunately, we were unable to capture any audio from the synthesizer itself during this short meeting. I can tell you, however, Skulpt does function and sounds really, really good!"

Ambient Electronica Jam (SUB 37 & Magneto & Clouds)

Published on Sep 23, 2018 Livebient

"From the depths of complex Eurorack modular patch (not pictured unfortunately) that I ran Moog Sub 37 trough. I just hit record and jammed away, no DAW's used here. All sounds are from Moog, although they go directly to Strymon Magneto and it's tape heads are modulated with other Eurorack modules. So modular synth definitely adds a lot to the mix. From there signal goes to Mutable Clouds, which adds gritty transients and noise, with some awesome beauty as well. Some of Clouds parameters are modulated from same sources as the tape heads."

Korg Volca FM + Chase Bliss Thermae + Tascam Porta 02 (2018-09-23)

Published on Sep 23, 2018 Slenterende Beer

"I found this Porta 02 in a second-hand shop without a power adapter, I'm super happy it still works! This was my first experiment with the 4-track recorder, in which I played four sequences on the Volca FM, going into the Thermae. All I do in this video is adjust the volume and panning of the four recorded tracks. Most of the warble effects are from the Thermae, although I do slow down the tape a few times manually as well.

"For best results, listen to this video on headphones and try to follow the sound, the values can be variable among different synthesizers, but the key is the same.
You can sculpt the sound with an equalizer and other effects.
I just wanted to use the synthesizer´s capabilities.
Enjoy making sounds and tweaking knobs!"

Elektron Digitakt vs Avalon bassline upbeat jam (Modular, volca, 0 coast)

Published on Sep 23, 2018 ollilaboratories

"If you like my stuff please support me on http://music.ollilab.com/ and https://www.patreon.com/theBURG

I have a couple of minimal jams recorded from before which have yet to be released. I wanted to help finalize these tracks into a short E.P by adding one more track, a bit less minimal but still with that BURG style of sound.

It is a pretty simple track as you can hear, with small textures and movements to give it that organic feeling.. i.e it feels the same, and repetitive but if you listen in closely there is a lot of small stuff going on to hopefully make it interesting.

Gear used:

Digitakt - main drums and percussion, TR8s - hihats and side chain compression for vBASS and vKeys, analog four - sequencer for the 0 coast + FX for the avalon bassline. vBASS - LO bass, vKEYS pads and vFM is doing an FM sequence that is routed through the avalon ext in. And the Avalon, 303 style square bass.

Modular sound sources

A113 sawtooth bass, BPF on the ripples, Braids a morphed weird chord thingy through the uVCF, Rings does a strange bell thing at the end. BIA on modulated percussion. All sequenced by the eloquencer, modulated by PAM's and uO_C. Maths is on envelope duty for A113 and Braids, also modulating the decay from PAMs in a random fashion. :)

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #56: Evolution Synthesis EVS-1 - Song 1

Published on Sep 23, 2018 Christian's Sonic Spaces

Here's something you don't get to hear often. The EVS-1 rackmount synthesizer by Evolution Synthesis. There have only been two previous posts featuring the EVS-1, one, an auction with some pics, and the other a link to Rolamtech featuring various synth demos.

"This is the first song with my latest addition, the Evolution Synthesis EVS-1. It's a 16-voice polyphonic, 8-part multitimbral, digital synthesizer featuring 4OP FM, 4OP Phase Distortion, Ringmodulation, Waveshaping, etc. It wasn't very successful when it came out in the early 90s. The reasons might be that one need a computer software to programm this synth, the sounds contain significant digital artefacts and it hasn't any filter and effects. But thanks to the 4 6-stage envelopes and 2 LFOs which all can be freely routed to each control two different parameters of the synth engine including LFOs themselves AND the "wavetable", it's a beast to create crispy, wobbling, glitchy, drony, weired, industrial-like soundscapes. The aliasing is here a significant part of the sound design ;-) I'm really impressed how versatile and "freshh" it still can sound.

BTW, all sounds I used for this song I've created myself ;-)

I used for the recording the following FX chain:
Evolution Synthesis EVS-1 - Alesis Ampliton - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI System Specular Reverb 2 - Alesis 3630

The signal goes via a small Behringer mixer straight into the pc.

To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with just a bit compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track. Please note that I didn't use any filter and EQ for this song."

That's one beige keyboard.

"For sale is a very cool 1982 Roland Piano Plus EP-11.

This is an all analog electric piano with a flexible built in analog drum machine, bass, chord and arpeggiator auto accompaniment.

This is from the era of the Juno 106 and shares many of the same parts like the enclosure and keybed (can be used to refurb a Juno keybed, side panels, some slider pots, etc...). It even has DIN sync to sync up to other Roland equipment like a TR-707 or a 606, etc... In very good condition. Great fun for 1st time piano learning and also for Roland collectors."
