Synthesis Technology E520 *prototype* // Tape style SOS loops, spectral weirdness, new FX + more!

Premieres Dec 12, 2019 DivKidVideo

"**TIMING INDEX BELOW - GO SKIP AROUND!** Here’s the second video with the already lovely sounding E520 big exposed prototype from Synthesis Technology. This will be a Eurorack module for it’s release next year but this is just the development prototype. In this video we explore some other FX, some updates to things we’ve already seen and bathe in not only a lovely shimmer bath … but some gorgeous tape style degradation loops that deteriorate with feedback, warble, saturation and filtering like real tape based sound on sound looping. Heck, I even broke out the Telecaster for a change. Skip around, any questions just ask, if you go back this be sure to get your ideas heard and give feedback to shape the product on Kickstarter and as always I’ll see you next time. Ba-bye.

Nord Lead A1 / 2 Tracks, 1 Take / Randomize / Tillborg

Published on Dec 1, 2019 Tillborg

"I set myself a little challenge of using the randomize sound feature on the A1 and recording into Ableton. I had to record two tracks and if I messed up the take I had to press the randomize button and try again with a different sound. This was the end result.

No external effects or processing used."

Novation Spotlight: Xylo Aria

via Novation where you'll find the full interview.

"We caught up with Xylo Aria after her visit to our Novation London Pop-Up store, to discover a little more about her background in music making, her greatest inspirations and how she has used Launchkey to help with her most recent release, 'My Bandage'.

Xylo Aria is a singer, producer, entrepreneur and true visionary. Born in India, identifying with Australia but residing in the UK, Xylo brings her global perspective into her music and everything she does. In 2017 Xylo took the decision to produce her own music and has since released multiple of her own, self-produced tracks including 'Pig' and 'M.R.I'. Xylo is also the founder and creator of the online education platform MPW - Music Production for Women, which launched in 2019, and created to go beyond the realms of educating women, and become a movement in the music industry which would empower and encourage more women to take their first steps into music technology."

Ambient poly synth jam with the NDLR, Deckard's Dream, OB-6, Peak, Dreadbox Abyss, Polymoon, Big Sky

Published on Dec 12, 2019 Jay Hosking

"A live, semi-improvised performance, all on hardware, and inspired by winter looming. I've long wanted to make a couple of videos about how the sequencer really determines where the music goes, and I thought there was no better example of this than the NDLR, which is such a beautiful little inspiration device. In my opinion, I think the NDLR thrives at making interesting ambient explorations, and I hope I've demonstrated that here.

I've also wanted to make a "poly synth jam" and show each of the poly synths I currrently have next to each other. Some really interesting things revealed themselves here: 1) the Peak is the clear winner for bass; 2) I like the OB-6 a lot better for plucks or shorter decays than I do for pads; 3) the Abyss holds its own among these bigger names and is a real gem with lots of personality; 4) the Deckard's Dream isn't particularly rich or versatile, but adds the most beauty to the track, and it's a joy to make a patch from scratch.

Conductive Labs NDLR — Sequencing
Black Corporation Deckard's Dream + Meris Polymoon — Pad
Sequential/Oberheim OB-6 — Motif 1 (brighter arp)
Dreadbox Abyss + Strymon Big Sky — Motif 2 (mellower arp)
Novation Peak — Drone (bass monster)

Written and performed within a 24-hour period, and uploaded as is, with only a little compression/limiting on the master.

Carol of the Synths - ARP Odyssey, Axxe, Omni, SCI Prophet 600, Sequential Prophet 6 synthesizers!

Published on Dec 12, 2019 Tom Loncaric

"'Carol of the Synths' based on 'Carol of the Bells'
A little seasonal cheer improvised on analog synthesizers!

Synthesizers used:
ARP Odyssey Mk II (1976)
ARP Axxe (1978)
ARP Omni (1977]
Sequential Circuits Prophet 600 (1983)
Sequential Prophet 6 (2017)

“Carol of the Bells" is a popular christmas song, with music by Ukrainian composer Mykola Leontovych in 1914 and lyrics by Peter J. Wilhousky. The song is based on the Ukrainian folk chant "Shchedryk". The original folk story related in the song was associated with the coming New Year, which, in pre-Christian Ukraine, was celebrated with the coming of spring in April. The original Ukrainian title translates to "the generous one" or is perhaps derived from the Ukrainian word for bountiful (shchedryj), and tells a tale of a swallow flying into a household to proclaim the bountiful year that the family will have."
