20- The Arturia PolyBrute- Motion Record Part B

AutomaticGainsay

"Here is the second part of a two-part exploration of the sound and functionality of the Motion Record facility present on the Arturia PolyBrute.

The theme for this demonstration was recorded by multitracking the Arturia PolyBrute in order to provide the various parts necessary. The drums were assembled out of loops from Apple’s GarageBand."

Polymetric Techno - Sonicware Liven 8Bit Warps Demo

ChrisLody

"The Liven 8Bit Warps in this video was supplied by Sonicware

So here's something a bit more techno that I've jammed out on the Liven 8Bit Warps. I learned 3 things about it while I was making this. 1. It's damn good at polymeters, 2. It's good at synthesizing clap sound, 3. I discovered a method of making analog sounding kicks

The Liven 8Bit Warps is equip with a sequencer that can have up to 128 steps per pattern set out in 16 steps and 8 pages. That in it's self makes it a bit of a monster sequencer wise but it also has a looper that records audio fed into it from the sequencer which is then played back in sync, but brilliantly there is nothing to stop you having these loops being a different length to the main sequence. So basically it's supports polymeters :) It is also capable of poly rhythms because the note length of each sequence can also have dotted and triplet notes assigned to it. I tried to use both in this jam but it sounded a bit messy! So I'll save polyrhythms for another video

I made the clap sounds pretty much by accident. I was aiming for a sharp snare sound made with the FM engine which is easy enough to achieve, but then I dialed in some rapid flanger and this clap sound emerged. It was better than the sound I was aiming for so that stayed :)

For the kick sound I discovered that a fully DC offset custom waveform fed into the highpass filter with maximum resonance and a cutoff setting of around 1 makes some absolutely lovely analog kick sounds. A click is produced by the DC offset acting like an exciter and the peak of the filter acts like a resonator. You can still use velocity to control the volume of the DC click so I've programmed some ghost notes in this 4/4 drum pattern to give it movement. The way these are synthesized is in stark contrast to the crunchy 8 bit drums it can also make. Expect a tutorial on all that soon"

62HP EP3: Small Synth + Sampler

Perfect Circuit

Perfect Circuit 62HP posts

"Episode 3 of 62HP is here! For this system we built a small single voice synth designed to make one sound at a time and combined it with an Elektron Digitakt. This allows you to sample a bunch of sounds into the Digitakt and then sequence a live voice on the synth and make a full song.

The system includes uses a Make Noise STO and ALM MCO as oscillators, the MCO can be used as a noise generator as well. We used an Aion 904A lowpass filter which is based on the Moog Modular filter, for VCAs we used a WMD DVCA (great for drums) and a Plankton Nutone which can also be used as a tube distortion. The Zadar gives us all of the envelopes we need, an Erica Pico DSP gives us some effects and mixing can be done with the Malekko Mix and Intellijel Quadratt. The Elektron Digitakt doesn't fit in the eurorack case but is an important part of this system since it provides the ability to sample the synth and then sequence it with midi.

Phosphenes (DiN65) by Dave Bessell & Parallel Worlds

https://dinrecords.bandcamp.com/album/phosphenes-din65

"The names of Dave Bessell & Parallel Worlds should be familiar to aficionados of the DiN label with various solo & collaborative albums under their belts. “Phosphenes” see these two well respected musicians team up for their third collaborative release on DiN.

Following on from Morphogenic (DiN41, 2012) & Dystopia (DiN56, 2018) this new album builds on their previous work creating an imaginary Synthwave soundtrack. Bakis Sirros the mastermind behind Parallel Worlds provides the skittering rhythmic backdrop to the tracks over which he and Bessell overlay ominous bass lines, twisting melodies and creative sound design that recall a shadow of 1980s John Carpenter film scores. Bessell also adds his unique guitar style that he so effectively uses in his other well known side project with the synth quartet Node. Both musicians make extensive use of modular synth systems but in very different ways that perfectly blend together in these eight atmospheric tracks.

The duo of Bessell and Sirros really do have a unique sound that is unlike anything else released in the world of electronic music and “Phosphenes” presents another chance to enter their darkly twisted sonic world.

EM-801 | MACHINIS$T

$300.00

EM-802 Machinist Sample Track + Hold & Noise consists of 3 individual circuits: a highly stable voltage-controlled sample / track & hold, a noise generator, and a voltage-controlled clock generator. The sample / track & hold section can be manually engaged using the Manual Trigger push button.

The noise generator provides five independent colors of noise. The spectrum specifically consists of Violet, Blue, White, Pink and Red noise. The clock generator’s frequency rate is visualized using the onboard LED indicator, and the sample / track + hold polarity is displayed with corresponding LED indicators.

The onboard slew limiter provides further sound sculpting functionality, wherein the user may select the slew limiter circuit direction and control the slew rate via CV input.

Specifications:

Model: EM-802

Product SKU: 800-0802

Dimensions: 12 HP (3U)

Panel: 2.00 mm Anodized Aluminum
