Darwin Grosse of Cycling 74, 20 Objects and the Art + Music + Technology Podcast Has Passed Away

Some sad news sent my way via Joshua Shroyer, also feauted on Synthopia, where you'll find additional info on the impact Darwin Grosse has had in the synth community.

You should be familiar with his 20Objects Art + Music + Technology podcasts posted here on MATRIXSYNTH, as well as numerous other posts. His website is hosted at 20objects.com. He also worked with Cycling 74 and participated in LEAF (Lafayette Electronic Arts Festival). The image to the left is from the LEAF website which has the following bio on him:

"Darwin Grosse works in a modular world, combining modular synthesizers, video tools and compositing software to combine minimalist visuals with generative soundscapes. Based out of Northfield, Minnesota, Darwin uses natural movement as source material for geometric visual pieces, and writes custom audio-reactive software for his multimedia work."

His final podcast from May 15, 2022:
video upload by 20Objects

"Unfortunately, today is the last day of podcasting for the Art + Music + Technology podcast. Health issues have gotten in the way, and it would be impossible to continue.

You can read the transcription of this article, as well as finding some interesting writing on my Patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/posts/66445163

Thank you for being such a great group of friends and supporters during this long series of music"

Dawesome's next synth NOVUM (first look, no talking)

video upload by DATABROTH

"NOVUM is Dawesome's next synth, it is a spectral/granular sampler, you load in a sample and Novum divides it up into 6 layers which can be played back granularly, the Flower allows for Abyss-like layer manipulation, making each layer more or less 'organic' or 'noisy'. Novum is coming soon, I am very glad to get a first look at this synth for everyone

DSI POLY EVOLVER - A Tribute to Dave Smith, Founder of Sequential Circuits (1950-2022)

video upload by synth4ever

"DSI Poly Evolver music tribute to Dave Smith, founder of Sequential Circuits (1950-2022). Dave suddenly and tragically passed away on May 31, 2022. This synthesizer performance uses the 12-voice Dave Smith Instruments Poly Evolver, IMO one of his most unique creations.

My condolences to Dave's family,Sequential, fans and all who loved his work. A legend has left us, and there are no words. Thank you Dave for everything you've done for music, the synth world and beyond -- you will be forever missed, and your legacy will never be forgotten. Rest in peace.

video upload by Polydata

"Drawing from the earliest days of polyphonic synthesizers, Sound Bank ‘79 for the Sequential Prophet-5 Rev. 4 finds its inspiration in synthesizer music found in documentaries and library music from the late 70’s and early 80’s.

A full group of 40 patches for instant inspiration...

Cinematic Synths Vol. 3 // Rev2 + Subsequent37 + Polybrute

video upload by Lost Clouds (Tom Green Music)

"Using one of my favourite new patches on the Polybrute and playing two synths at once (like some kinda pro organ man) for a fun, evolving cinematic track! Sorry about the focus issues - had my camera on the wrong setting...Some patch notes:

Rev2: A 6/8 sequence running through a whole heap of effects - reverb from Valhalla Shimmer, resonant filtering from Soundtoys FilterFreak and delay (running at 80bpm in a 110bpm track for an extra unsteady feeling) from Soundtoys Echoboy. The filter on the Rev2 opens up as the track progresses which adds resonance and lovely harmonics from both the Rev2 filter but also from FilterFreak.

Sub37: A classic thick, rich bassy patch that uses all 3 oscillators and some subtle pitch wobble for maximum fatness. Running through Valhalla Shimmer and Soundtoys Echoboy.

Polybrute: The same patch from my last video, but this time working as an awesome ethereal sounding lead. Uses an arpeggiated patch running through a 100% wet reverb - check out the previous video for more info on the patch!

Others: Percussion hits and strings that very briefly appear are from the Spitfire Audio Albion Tundra library."
