L.E.P. Electronic Laboratories Arpoloop Development Update & A Call for Input

Check out L.E.P. Electronic Laboratories' upcoming Arpoloop. They reached out to me to let me know they are looking for someone to help with the user manual. Also if you have any suggestions on additional cv/trig in/out connectors you might find useful, feel freel to reach out them at tonight222 at gmail.com or their social links at the bottom of their website. Or you can leave a comment at the bottom of this post and I will relay it to them.

via L.E.P. Electronic Laboratories

"The final step on Arpoloop development, we add an eight step capacitor sequencer and one octave keyboard. Arpoloop final shape will be inspired by Minimoog with foldable voice board, in the photos the last not definitive prototype.

ArpoLoop it’s the newest creation of L.E.P. electronic laboratories.

After five or more years of development, the volcanic mind of our analog engineer Peppo Lasagna, created this unique instrument, virtually inspired by the Raymond Scott pioneer work.

ArpoLoop it’s a generative analog composer, an analog computer for musician, full-featured for creating algorithmic live music, letting you combine melodies and rhythm, thanks to the help of his Analog Intelligent Algorithm.

ArpoLoop is a full Analog synthesizer in 60HP, 7U format, with a built-in full analog rhythm and melody composer. With full Analog terminology, we mean we don’t use any digital component, like microprocessor or even CMOS counter IC like CD4040 etc. this guarantees you a living organic sound, always drifting to a new direction.

Since there is no microprocessor nor memory, it can not be programmed in the usual way, instead it can be set and guided to play a line whose parameters are user definable and virtually infinite.

With these features, ArpoLoop offers you a unique musical experience, where instead of programming your sequencer you are forced to play with him.

Each time you switch on your ArpoLoop he will respond to your state of mind, letting you compose the music of that moment, this is particularly notable when in our time the music was the first product of human creativity to digitally disappear, thus making the recorded music lose importance.

Like a pianist practices with his piano, you will practice with your ArpoLoop offering an always better improvised musical live performance.

ArpoLoop consist of different part and modules :
The Voice Board.
The Ramp Generator.
The Capacitor Sequencer.
The Note Generator.
The Rhythm Generator.
The Octave Keyboard.
Here is a list of its features:
-4 voltage controlled oscillators (VCO)
-VCO1 sine wave with sync and FM
-VCO2 sine wave with FM
-VCO3 sine wave with sync and FM
-VCO4 sine-square-sawtooth with LFO option
-4 cascadable voltage controlled amplifiers (VCA) controlled by envelope or ring modulated by a VCO
-3 Attack-Release envelope generators (ENV) with 3 modes of operation (GATE, REPEAT, TRIG)
-Clock generator and 3 Ramp generators for general timing
-4 Rhythm generator to control notes and drums
-Note generator with 2 sample\hold CV outputs
-Bass drum (CASSA) with pitch, resonance and distortion
-Snare drum with tom pitch and decay
-6 channel Audio Mixer with level and individual out for cassa, snare, vca 1\2, vca 3\4"

Prophet 12 - How Analog can it sound? - Part #3 (No Effects)

video upload by Scott McAuley Sounds & Synthesis

Additional Parts

"Completely different type of analog demo this one. it's one to show the benefits of stable oscillators (DCO) versus (VCO) instability. Yes I love the instability of VCO, and would still chose them over DCO for most applications. but at times, especially for percussive or crystal like sounds, the stable DCO allows far better sound design and allows the synth to cut through. This patch has no effects, (yes it's completely dry!) it does have some light compression for mastering and that is it. From Low end to High End the P12 is just there!

I love it. snappy envelopes, it's rich, and just has a sound of it's own.

hope you enjoy!
SM."

NightRider by Ryk Modular

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"Night Rider is a quad resonant filter with a built in sequencer. It has four bandpass filters that can be used in parallel and serial configurations, a mono allpass filter in two flavors and an amazing karplus strong mode.
It works in many configurations, but it has a strong preference for more complex sources and abolutely shines with something big and polyphonic like Vector Wave or Knobula's Poly Cinematic. While this may seem as a 'too many options' module, you can easy find your way after getting lost in a patch or two. Absolutely stunning module."

1st Look At MJ's "Smooth Criminal" Bass

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"This is our first look at the bass sound on 'Smooth Criminal' from Michael Jackson’s Thriller album. In this video, former New England Digital (N.E.D.) product specialist Kevin Maloney explains how he sampled a muted piano on the Synclavier that was later used as the key ingredient in the actual bass sound for the final recording session. Michael was looking for something unusual from Kevin and the piano sample performed out of range on the keyboard perfectly fit the request. Kevin breaks down that piano sample and demonstrates how some other components were later added for support such as a sampled Minimoog bass sound. A mock up of Synclavier drum samples similar to those used on the final version of the song are included in this video as accompaniment. Kevin also shows off some sequencer and sampling tricks that are particularly unique to the Synclavier.

Anthony's musical touch as both composer and performer is connected with some of the most influential creative minds over the last 40 years. He’s composed and conducted original orchestral scores for over 80 feature films including Young Guns, Internal Affairs, The Man From Elysian Fields, 15 Minutes and Planes, Trains & Automobiles, been commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic for his symphonic work "In the Family Way", written over one thousand TV commercials in a myriad of musical styles, co-founded Levels Audio Post (LA's premiere post production facility) and performed and arranged on big-box-office films and influential hit records such as Michael Jackson's Thriller.

His extensive work as a young arranger, orchestrator and performer for Quincy Jones, Jack Nitzsche, Lamont Dozier, Arthur Rubenstein and Giorgio Moroder was vital in launching his own career. His early years pioneering modular analog synthesizers along with his wide-ranging music scholarship positioned Anthony at the center of the music technology revolution. He attended the University of Southern California School of Music as a piano and composition major.

G-Storm Electro Introduces Spring Tank Reverb Driver Version 2

video upload by gstormelectro

"Audio + Video by G-Storm Electro c. 2023

Introducing my Spring Tank Reverb Driver version 2. Same great sound and features as before. But now in 4HP with added Feedback knob. The Drive setting is now a trimmer on the PCB Set-and-forget. In today's video I will be auditioning the module with a few different spring tanks and various patch scenarios. Like pairing the reverb with Synthrotek DLY. While my driver module is optimized for Medium length tanks, it can easily be modded to handle long and short size tanks well. Which one is your favorite? Special thanks to my friend Seth, for contributing Behringer System 2500 sounds and footage for this episode!

On the 2500 patches, the dry signal was mult-ed such that the wet/dry mix was handled by a mixer off camera. Audio has been recorded direct, no other mastering or posts effects.

Vintage Folded Line, Medium size tank like those in a Roland Space Echo
0:00 Drone I
0:36 Drone II
1:00 Monotone Bass staccato
Accutronics 4AB3C1B Long size 16" tank
1:22 Massive Kick
2:09 Sample-n-hold
Accutronics BAB3C1B tank like those found in a Fender Sidekick Amp

"Spring Tank Reverb is an 4HP wide Eurorack driver module for use with a variety of spring tanks. Features a CV control of the wet/dry mix. NEW in version 2: 4HP, Added Feedback pot, Drive is now a set-and-forget trimmer on the PCB.

FEATURES

Pots: Tone, Feedback, CV of wet/dry amount, Initial Wet/Dry amount. Drive trimmer for accommodating various spring tanks. Signal strength LED indicator. RCA jacks on the back of the module for mounting tank internally in the case. Included: 10-to-16 pin ribbon cable. Not included: Reverb tank and RCA cables (sold separately)

CHOOSING A TANK

GROUNDING CONNECTORS (5TH character in tank model #) Type A or C is best. SIZE & NUMBER OF SPRINGS | Short length and Medium Length is best. Long length (approx. 16”) may need resistor R8 decreased to 100-ohms for a boost in power. I am happy to switch the resistor for you based on your needs, just let me know before I ship your order out. 2 or 3 number of springs are known to work well. INPUT IMPEDANCE | (2ND character in tank model #) | any except “F” (1475 ohms, has not been tested). OUTPUT IMPEDANCE | (3RD character in tank model #) |“B” known to work best, all others untested. TANKS THAT WERE TESTED AND KNOWN TO WORK WELL | Vintage Folded Line, Medium size, 3-spring, as those used in a Roland Space Echo | Accutronics BAB3C1B Medium size, as taken from a Fender Sidekick Amp | Accutronics 4AB3C1B Long size 16”, 2-spring (R8 to be changed to 100-ohms for best performance). MOST RECOMMENDED | Ruby Tubes 2EB2C1B short size 9”, 2-spring, has plenty of drip and feedback with a size to fit many different case scenarios.

SPECs

Module Depth: 50mm | Current Demand: +12V 39mA, -12V 34mA, 5V not used

Note: due to RCA jack placement and chunkiness of some RCA plugs, it may not be feasible to mount this module on the bottom row of your system rack. Please refer photos. A workaround that might work is to try a cable with 90-degree RCA plug ends."
