Roland Juno Chorus eurorack comparison

video upload by John Schussler

"I'm a big chorus fan, and am continually surprised there aren't more of them as stand alone modules in Eurorack. The most famous chorus was originally shipped in the Roland Juno line (6, 60, and 106), and is what's replicated in these two modules I'm looking at today.

The Feedback Chorus 106 has been out for a while, and is now discontinued because they can no longer get some of the NOS (new old stock) parts they use.

The SoundForce uChorus is brand new, and has substituted an STM and some other new bits to make up for the MN3101 driver IC that's no longer available.

Both are following the original circuit behavior as closely as possible.

I compare them here to see if one is better than the other.
Spoiler: I can't hear the difference. Can you? Let me know in the comments.

The G-Storm electro Feedback Chorus made it's first appearance here in 2019, and the SoundForce uChorus in May, 2023 this year.

YM2413 SYNTH + ROLAND XP50 - Testing sounds from the homemade OPLL mini FM synthesizer.

video upload by MusicHobby

"YM2413 SYNTH - Testing sounds from the homemade OPLL mini FM synthesizer. Roland XP50 keyboard used as controller, to send MIDI notes, program and control changes to the YM2413 module and the audio goes to the audio interface.

This is my project of a YM2413 FM Synth MIDI Module, already assbembled in a purple printed circuit board.

The YM2413 chip (known as OPLL), which is 2 operator FM musical synthesizer that uses FM synthesis (frequency modulation) to generate timbres. In this YM2413 based musical instrument I am using the Arduino Nano to control the YM's internal registers.

The YM2413 was used in:
-Yamaha PSS-170 and PSS-270 keyboards in 1986;
-Yamaha SHS-10 shoulder keyboard in 1987, and the Yamaha PSS-140 and Yamaha SHS-200 in 1988;
-Yamaha PSR-6 keyboard in 1988;
-Sega Master System, MSX, Atari Games Rampart arcade game;

I purchased the YM2413 chip on Aliexpress. I designed the board then sent the gerber to JLCPCB to be manufacured. Application Manual: https://www.smspower.org/maxim/Docume...

"A NEW MASTERPIECE" "AN UNSTOPPABLE FORCE" - Sinusoidal Music

"SIMPLY SENSATIONAL" - Indie O’Clock

‘Such Imperfection’ debuted in summer 2022 as a love letter to 80’s pop vinyl.

A year later, making good on their promise, Simesky+Fritch released their follow up singles
‘ColourRunningAway’and‘BackandDownAgain’toworldwideacclaimand highpraise.

The singles went global. The airwaves lit up. Indie charts and national stations in UE and UK put the
tracks on rotation and Simesky+Fritch gained cult status. The reception was simply astounding.

What comes now is a glorious (mini) album and statement that shines high with a new-neon swagger. All the dark light of new-wave, all the glisten of 80’s pop, all the shimmer of retro and the gloss of lost decades is reshaped into something spectacular.

So welcome to ‘SKALA.02’. Welcome to Simesky+Fritch

Welcome to the future of cool retro indie reimagined by modern pop masters.

5 Jams with Yester Versio stereo three-tap delay from Noise Engineering

"Check out these 5 Jams using the Yester Versio stereo three-tap delay on the Versio platform from Noise Engineering.

0:05 Jam 1
0:43 Jam 2
1:14 Jam 3
2:04 Jam 4
3:04 Jam 5

If you already own any of our Versio modules, you can swap to this firmware for free through the Customer Portal: http://bit.ly/3JvmC8N

More info on Yester Versio and the Versio platform: https://bit.ly/3kMQpjK
Watch the full Yester Versio demo video: https://youtu.be/dwOmdgrLmq0

Jam 1: In this patch, you're hearing synced delays with the Dotted switch dividing the delay times. We're also changing the pitches of the echoes and creating clean harmonies with the Chorus knob.

Jam 2: Yester is three-tap delaying the Manis Iteritas Alia, with its Chorus knob being CV controlled by the Mimetic Digitalis sequencer. Adjusting the MIA's Envelope knob creates long breaths of Manis or tight stabs, which really bring out the Yester's delays.

Jam 3: It's true that the new Yester Versio module is a simple delay, but it can also make some complex patterns, too. Here we're taking out the original signal entirely, adding CV to vary the timing of the delays, switching to Octave mode for some octave harmonies, then adding in that DJ-style filter and applying some wavefolding.

Jam 4: This is the jam from the demo video here: https://youtu.be/dwOmdgrLmq0
Manis is running through Yester's delays with Virt Iter Legio with the high and slow melodic drone. We turn fire up the Chorus knob for some great effects when turning all the way left or all the way right. Then we end it with some DOOOOOOMMMMM by turning the Fold knob all the way up.

Jam 5: All you're hearing in this patch is the BIA into the new Yester Versio three-tap delay. Blend, Chorus, Tone, and Regen are all getting CV envelopes, and turning the Fold knob gives some extra wavefolding at the end. Viol Ruina gives that resonant filtering in the melody."
