Radikal Technologies DELTA CEP 1.6e Firmware Update

"Radikal Technologies takes DELTA CEP A paraphonic semi-modular synth several steps further forward with free firmware updates

MÜNCHEN, GERMANY: cutting-edge sound specialist Radikal Technologies is proud to announce availability of the latest (Version 1.6e) firmware update for its illustrious DELTA CEP A paraphonic semi-modular synthesizer — serving up nine essential synthesis ‘modules’ melded together to form a potent yet straightforward starting point to the ever-widening world of the Eurorack small-format modular system — that builds upon its impressive feature set with several significant additions, free for existing owners…

Its introduction earlier this year to widespread critical acclaim saw Radikal Technologies’ DELTA CEP A living up to the PARAPHONIC-MODULAR wording boldly blazoned across its feature-packed front panel. Pushing its cutting-edge sound-specialising creator’s product lineup to the forefront of the ever-widening world of the Eurorack small-format modular system, the deftly-designed DELTA CEP A can function as a standalone synthesizer or — when removed from the chassis — a 68HP-occupying Eurorack module forming the centre of a powerful modular voice. Whichever way it is brought into play — purchasable as a desktop paraphonic semi-modular synthesizer or Eurorack paraphonic semi- modular synthesizer module, the DELTA CEP A is the perfect starting point for any modular user.

Today, the DELTA CEP A paraphonic semi-modular synthesizer represents an even more potent force in the ever-widening world of the Eurorack small-format modular system, thanks to extensive firmware updates, culminating in Version 1.6e, that build upon its impressive feature set with several significant additions, as follows.

Firstly, Radikal Technologies has helpfully seen fit to expand the DELTA CEP A’s already powerful FX section above and beyond the giveaway (FX: 1. TAPE 2. DELAY 3. CHORUS 4. PHASER 5. FLANGER) wording highlighted on that feature-packed front panel to additionally include a stereo reverb algorithm. As such, it is now perfectly possible to add stereo reverb to those tape, delay, or chorus effects, for instance. It is also perfectly possible to morph those new reverb parameters as well with the INTERPOLATOR section — certainly separates the DELTA CEP A from the Eurorack pack! Put it this way: with this sound-stimulating section, users are afforded an ability to store so-called ‘snapshots’ of sound creations into the DELTA CEP A’s internal memory; moreover, users can consequently play those snapshots sequentially, creating cool sonic sequences. Saying that, they can cleverly create smooth transitions from one snapshot to another, allowing for some stunning sound morphing effects!

Excitingly, the LFO 1 section can now be assigned to different modulation targets without having to use any patch cables; creatively, this allows for assigning the LFO (Low Frequency Oscillator) modulation to multiple targets simultaneously with independent modulation depths for all targets. That said, the ADSR section’s envelope generator can also now be assigned to different modulation targets without having to use any patch cables; creatively, multiple targets can be simultaneously controlled with independent modulation depths. Deeper still, the INTERPOLATOR section’s already powerful morphing function also benefits from those new routing capabilities since internal routings can be morphed! Musically- and sonically-speaking, users can now explore a whole new dimension of dynamic soundscapes.

So, having installed its latest firmware updates, how do discerning DELTA CEP A users access those welcomed additional parameters? Pressing the SHIFT button locks the SHIFT function to more easily enable additional parameters; its associated LED (Light Emitting Diode) flashes until the SHIFT function is unlocked again (by pressing the SHIFT button again).

Additionally, the MOD input in the MIXER section now controls the volume and saturation of the SWARM OSC signal; speaking of inputs, the SYNC input in the LFO 1 section now performs perfectly and allows for synchronising the LFO to another LFO or the GATE signals. (Holding the SHIFT button allows access to the note values of the LFO with the SPEED knob.)

Needless to say, the DELTA CEP A now reacts to MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) program changes, but be careful; if it receives a program change while the user is editing a sound, any changes to the sound will be lost.

Last, but by no means least, thanks to the latest (Version 1.6e) firmware update, it is now possible to share presets directly between two DELTA CEP A paraphonic semi-modular synthesizers. So what else can Radikal Technologies say? Not much — other than concluding that its illustrious DELTA CEP A has taken several significant steps further forward, courtesy of a rigorous regime of firmware updates. Ultimately, then, the DELTA CEP A ships with the latest firmware, which existing users of course can access and install for free.

The DELTA CEP A is available for purchase — priced at an RRP of €899.00 EUR/$999.00 USD (Eurorack) and €1,198.00 EUR/$1,298.00 USD (desktop) — through Radikal Technologies’ growing global network of authorised dealers.

For more in-depth information and access to the latest firmware updates, please visit the dedicated DELTA CEP A webpage here: https://www.radikaltechnologies.com/delta-cep-a-2/ (Existing DELTA CEP A owners can download the latest firmware updates for free.)

Padding with the Delta CEP A

Published on Feb 15, 2019 Jörg Schaaf

"Some 'padding' with the Delta CEP A. Not bad for a "monophonic" synth ;-)
I did two snapshots for that sound. One of them uses only the Bandpass Filter and the other the Bandpass and the lowpass filter at the same time. The second sound also changes the waveform from a Sawtooth to a pulse. But the main sound animation comes from the modulation of the digital stereo multimode filter. The cutoff frequencies are modulated with opposite LFO phases to get this nice stereo animation in the sound.
The Delta CEP A has two different paraphonic modes. One retriggers the envelope everytime a new note message comes in. And the other mode only adds the two additional oscillators per voice without triggering the envelope.
At the end I am adding a little bit EFFEXX stuff to the sound.
Last but not least. In case you don't know this mode in the Delta. The paraphonic mode has 4 voices with two oscillators each. Just enough to create some phat pads with the Delta.

The DELTA CEP A is a new semimodular musicsynthesizer with monophonic and paraphonic playmodes, preset memories and snapshot automation. The DELTA CEP A is the perfect starting point into the EURORACK world and will become available soon as desktop standalone synthesizer and EURORACK module. The DELTA CEP A works just out of the box without any cable patching. If you are looking for a EURORACK FX unit or for POLYPHONY within your cabinet, you should also have a closer look as well. Are you curious about connectivity with your other gear? The DELTA CEP A has a MIDI interface and connects to every MIDI gear (MIDI sequencers, Keyboards etc.) The desktop version comes with standard 1/4 inch jack inputs and outputs."

Delta CEP A - using the Morph-function as a sequencer

Published on Feb 10, 2019 Jörg Schaaf

"The Delta CEP A morph function is based on snapshots. A snapshot is a subprogram within a soundprogram. Snapshots can hold variations of the sound or complete different sounds. The snapshots can then morph from one step to the next. Sequencer addicted users can activate a gate signal for each snapshot and use the morph function for sequences.

Delta CEP A Snapshot Morphing & Drum Module Demos

Published on Feb 11, 2019 Jörg Schaaf

"The Delta CEP A morph function is based on snapshots. A snapshot is a subprogram within a soundprogram. Snapshots can hold variations of the sound or complete different sounds. The snapshots can then morph from one step to the next. In this example the keystep sequences the Delta CEP A. The Delta CEP A sound morphs through eight different snapshots.

Delta CEP A as a drum module

Published on Feb 11, 2019 Jörg Schaaf

"Why not using the Delta CEP A as a drum module? I saved snapshots of different drumsounds. Afterwards I connected a Doepfer A-155 sequencer. The sequencer line triggers the envelope, one control voltage line selects the snapshots and one line controls the pitch. I fed the drum groove into the FXs of my mixing desk from time to time to add more variations. But I really like the opportunity to use the Delta as a drum module."

Update: demo video here.

via Radikal Technologies

"NAMM 2018 News: Radikal Technologies presents the Delta Cep A – a semimodular paraphonic synthesizer voice

The Delta Cep A is the perfect starting point into the eurorack modular world. A MIDI to CV Interface, Oscillators, Filters, LFO, Envelope Generator, Mixer, VCA and a FX section and even a memory sequencer/interpolator for new incredible sound FXs. Each section has inputs and outputs and adds a lot of power to any already existing modular synth. The Delta CEP A can also be used totally independent from any Eurorack frame with our Delta CEP A desktop casing. Even without patching one single cable, the Delta can be used as a powerful solo synthesizer and Chords/Pads machine.

DELTA CEP A - Workshop Audio-Demos, no talking.

Jörg Schaaf

"This video covers all the audio demos of the DELTA CEP A workshop introduction video but does not contain any talking. Please check the Delta CEP A workshop video if you would like to know, how the audio demos have been created. All what you hear in this video is made just with the Delta CEP A and it's built in FX section. Only the FM example uses the signal from a RT-311 swarm oscillator as a FM modulator.

The Delta CEP A simply has extremely clear waveforms with overtones up to the Nyquist frequency. For this reason, here is a link to the uncompressed wave file with the audio samples that the encoder did not want to process properly. The unfiltered Swarm oscillator signals were particularly affected. In the analyzer of the Logic Pro X EQ you can very nicely observe how far the overtones in the DELTA CEP A range for rectangular, pulse and sawtooth waveforms."

One step at a time...

Published on Feb 18, 2018 Jörg Schaaf

Jörg Schaaf of Radikal Technologies.

"In this little sequencer example I am using the pitch quantizer of the Delta CEP A and the Swarm oscillator to modify multiple sequences just by changing the scaling of the sequencer control voltages. As I selected the same pentatonic scale for both quantizers, the resulting sequences always match and create endless variations.

I am playing a little bit on the Spectralis hybrid synth from time to time. But it I apologize that this live playing sometimes sound like I am drunken or falling asleep. I can promise that that was not the case. I just forgot to activate the realtime quantize function of my right thumb and pinky ;-)

The sequences are running over the Delta CEP A delay and the Spectralis over a Strymon Timeline.
I am using both RT-311 outputs. One is fed into the external input of the Delta CEP A and the other output is fed through the RT-451 filter into a separate VCA with an independent envelope. The output of the VCA is then fed into the direct FX input of the Delta Cep A."

DELTA CEP A Workshop Reihe (1) Pilotfilm - Übersicht

Jörg Schaaf

"Trade fairs are cancelled. Workshops are postponed. In times of the pandemic, product videos are a serious alternative. I had a video series on the DELTA CEP A in mind for a long time. The first part provides an overview, while the following parts deal intensively with the individual sections of the synthesizer. My personal highlight in this pilot episode is the use of the stereo tape delay of the FX section as a looping device for a spontaneous 5 minute improvisation. This version of the video is in German. An English version will surely follow if I receive demands for it. Anyway - the audio demos will not change at all in an english language version.

Radikal Technologies Delta CEP A - Workshop @SchneidersLaden

Published on Apr 2, 2020 SchneidersLaden

"Jörg Schaaf aka Radikal Technologies was in Berlin to present his latest synthesizer designs like the Delta Cep A. He is responsible for some modern classic synth designs made in Germany – like the Spectralis and Accelerator. In the past years he mainly developed eurorack modules like the RT-311 Swarm Oscillator, RT-451 Dual Filter, RT-1701 Effexx or the semi-modular synthesizer Delta Cep A which is also availabe as a desktop version.

His complex designs always bring a lot of functionality to the table and they can sound amazing."

Corona Session 2 - A little lullaby

video by Jörg Schaaf

Jörg Schaaf Corona Sessions

"Everyone talks about Corona and Covid 19 every day. In most cases the result is a really depressing mood. The fear to get sick, the loneliness while staying home, all the missing friends etc. Really disgusting. We should start to see Covid 19 as a chance. The chance to find time to realize things, you would not get done in normal times. I for example finished my album in 2020, grew vegetables in my garden and spent more time than ever with my hobbies. I did not spent so much time in my pub. So, I drunk less beer. All that are positive aspects. I even started jogging in 2020.

That’s the reason, I call my night sessions from now on Corona sessions. Just to help you guys seeing that pandemic as a chance as well. You have one life! So, spend time with yourself and do something, you always wanted to do but never found the time to do. I prepared a nice little video studio at a rent place and I can go there whenever I want to and can perform music and shoot videos. That is a great pleasure for me.

Here is Corona Session 2. For the first time, I added some little fog to the performance. That gives hopefully an illusion of a real live concert.

When my favorite pub Klimbim in Gießen is opened again, the final Corona session will take place and a new name will be born.
Little improvisation with the following machines:
2x Delta CEP A (the percussive sequence and the solo/meldody leadsynth)
1x Accelerator (All the pads)
1x Spectralis (The massive bass sequence)
2x Keystep keyboards. One of them plays the sequence, that runs on Delta CEP A 1.
