CIRCUITO ELETRÔNICO - Brazil's First Modular Synth Meet

via André Dessandes on Facebook

"We're proud to annouce the first Modular Synthesizer Meeting in Brazil."

CIRCUITO ELETRÔNICO
Saturday, August 18 at 11:00am in UTC-03 at Otto Bristot que fica na rua Pedro Tarques, 129 – Consolação"

"Blips, knobs, sweeps, drones!

WerkBench Ambient Experiment **First look at 1.1.0!**

YouTube Published on Aug 3, 2012 by treasurecharger

"WerkBench is available in the app store: WerkBench - Bolasol, Inc.

Here is some ambient music generated from a single sample in real-time. The combination of pitch shifting and feedback makes for giant percolating pads. Enjoy!

All of the sounds are being sampled with the internal mic and speaker. I live in a noisy place so there is a lot of texture added with each level of feedback.

This video features WerkBench 1.1.0 which should be out in the first few weeks of August. I am making use of panning, high-pass filters, and decay settings for each step. These will be available soon!"

"Cwejman MMF-2, Cwejman Filter MMF-2"

First pictured here. via Cwejman:

"The MMF-2 is a stereo multi mode filter which can operate in a true stereo mode or as two independent filters A variety of possible modifications and re-shaping of your sound material is the goal for the MMF-2; as a post production filter with mix and pre/post saturation and as a tool for experimentation with both mono and stereo audio material with all CV controllable parameters in full audio range. The module is build around three functional blocks; filter, saturation stage and mix.

FILTER
The heart of the MMF-2 are two four pole multi mode filters with six selectable outputs for the main stereo outputs; low pass, low-band pass, band pass, band-high pass, high pass and notch + bypass. Three outputs/filter are available too; low pass, band pass and high pass and which are not affected by the saturation in the post mode. The corner frequency (CUTOFF L and CUTOFF R) is individual for both filters and the MASTER CUTOFF controls both. The Q-PEAK determinates the resonance up to self oscillation point and is controlled individually or by the LEFT Q-PEAK when activated by the switch LINK TO LEFT. Both CUTOFF and Q-PEAK can be controlled manually and by inserted signal(s) in to the CV inputs. Those CV signals can control left and right filter and/or both when control signals are inserted in to the MASTER CV inputs.

SATURATION
The saturation stage consist of a saturation stage with dominant even harmonics (HARD) and with dominant odd harmonics (SOFT). The saturation effect is dependent of the signal strength so the degree of saturation in the pre- mode is controlled by the strength of the incoming signal and in the post mode by the level of the outgoing signal from the filter(s).

MIX
The MIX controls the proportion between the incoming "dry" audio signal and the "wet" signal from the filter with pre and post saturation circuit. The MIX works in stereo mode and it can be controlled manually by knob MIX and be the CV signal MIX. The direct outputs, LPF, BPF and HPF are not affected by the MIX."

ARP 2600 A RE20

YouTube Published on Jul 10, 2012 by DearbornJohn

"This video demonstrates the basic diversity of the ARP2600 and its prewired patch (you don't need excessive patch chords to produce interesting sounds only one is used in this video to connect a sine wave to VCO2) there are also many other possibilities available.I'm also using a RE20 space echo in this live demo.Near the end of this video I do a 4th of July tribute starting with"and the rockets red glare"and some bombs bursting in air.As you can see in this video that I'm mainly working with the resonce,ADSR and internal clock to modulate the signal with alittle white noise and sample and hold to conclude at the end of the video.Old school synth.I would appreciate all comments and enjoy working with these instruments.Thanx"

THE MUSIC OF ChAnGEs - Event Celebrating John Cage

"Our Variation VII is a program focusing on Cage's most pioneering experimental, electronic, and noise music. Starting with early works utilizing 'non-musical' objects to generate sound [ Living Room Music (1940) and Radio Music (1956) ], we move to Cage's music for amplified objects from the early 60's. These works, epitomized by Cartridge Music (1960), feature graphic scores written on transparencies arranged by performers to realize various "events" amplified with contact microphones and phonograph cartridges. Although Cage was famously opposed to improvisation, these works require musicians who can make musical decisions based on real-time listening -- a skill honed by all the sfSound players!

Balancing out the program are two acoustic works: Music For ________ (1984-87) for chamber ensemble and a new work for improvisers by sfSound's Christopher Burns.

pics of the inside below.

"This is a two-cabinet EML 500 synthesizer. It does not work.
We bought it some time ago as a project however now it appears we're never going to get around to restoring it. Pictures 2-4 are of the left cabinet and pictures 5-7 are of the right cabinet. The left cabinet power supply (picture 4) connects to the right cabinet (picture 7) via a multi-pin cable with Cinch-Jones connectors, which we do not have.

The "controllers" portion of the left cabinet (picture 2) appears to be bereft of controllers, though if you look at it from the inside (picture 3) the PCB looks to be complete and in good shape, possibly the sliders broke off. The right hand cabinet (picture 5) also has no controllers, though here (picture 6) there is no PCB at all. After I got the power supply working and the left-hand cabinet (picture 2) going, it was my intention to complete the right-hand cabinet (picture 5) with a modern set of controllers from e.g. synthesis technology or one of the several other kit manufacturers, rather than trying to replicate the original PCB, which probably would be impossible to do anyway. Many of the controls on both cabinets are labeled though I don't know if the labels are accurate. The cabinets and panels are in G+ condition with some scratching. I don't know what to make of this synth, my best guess is that it was some kind of a prototype. It definitely looks restorable, though if you buy it please be prepared for some effort to get it back in action. For all of these reasons, regretfully sold "as is." Local pick-up in the Los Angeles, CA area welcome."

Seiko DS-250 Digital Synthesizer Demo

YouTube Published on Aug 3, 2012 by martythevampire1

"This is a quick demo of the rare and unusual Seiko DS-250 (forgive the playing - this is just to show all the preset sounds as this isn't anywhere else on the net).

Famous for being used by Jean-Michel Jarre on his 1986 Rendez-vous album (used on First Rendez-vous and Last Rendez-vous "Ron's piece"). This is a quick demo of the on board sounds and to give an overview of what it sounds like as there is limited information online about this keyboard/synth.

There are 16 basic sounds that can be split/layered and there is also a three stage release envelope (off, short, long) and a two stage chorus. Along with this is a single modulation control that controls depth and speed simultaneously with a start delay and a interval control that can add 3rd, 5th, 7th and octave harmonics into the sound. There is also a detune and pitch bender wheel as well as a transpose function. Midi in/out/thru is also on the Seiko along with individually selectable channels for Sound 1 and Sound 2.

Recorded direct via 2 x Avalon U5 DI boxes and no reverb / effects / eq other than the internal chorus on the DS-250. The two outputs when in split mode pan the sounds through two outputs (on this video set as left/right)."

Casio HT-6000

YouTube ublished on Aug 3, 2012 by drbenway

"The HT-6000 introduced for the HT line some of the more high-end features, such as ring-modulation, detuning, key-follow, and initial-touch.
The HT-6000 used an impressive 4 DCO's per voice.
It had 64 DCO wave forms to choose from (32 basic, 16 with noise [white or metallic], and 16 with ring modulation). It had 8 independent VCF filters , and added key-follow parameters for both the DCA and VCF. The DCA also added attack and decay curves (acute and obtuse). It also added an independent ADSR envelope for noise. The 4 DCO's each use the same waveform, VCF and DCA envelopes, but can have separate tunings, velocity response curves, and relative DCA envelope depths. Stacking the oscillators with detunes allowed the creation of flange and chorus effects, fat "super saws", and the creation of dual-note or even triad and 4-note leads. The filter cutoffs could be set to respond to velocity which added some expressiveness. Because each oscillator could have separate tuning and velocity response, it was also possible to have the pitch change according to pressure, if one of two differently tuned oscillators had an inverse velocity curve. Ring modulation used ocsillator 4 to modulate oscillator 3, and allowed the creation of metallic and pulse sounds, lower bass harmonics and even distortion."
