Dewanatron Swarmatron For Sale

via this auction

"This boutique and exquisite handmade piece is the 19th Swarmatron of 66 total made by the Dewan cousins.
Purchased new this item is $4000 just to get on an 8 month+ waiting list. It is unlikely that many more of these will be made.

This instrument quickly gained public interest after Trent Reznor took home a Golden Globe and an
Academy Award for best original score in David Fincher's 'The Social Network' in which the Swarmatron was the featured instrument
and was responsible for the incredible cinematic tension the score was noted for.

Played using two ribbon controllers, the Swarmatron orchestrates a symphony of seemingly angry yet musical bees.
This extremely rare synth has been cared for intensely over the past few years and shows very little cosmetic wear.
It is as chaotic as it is musical, it is as inspiring as it is challenging.
With the option of Fine Tuning + CV control for Pitch / Gate / Filter / Swarm this beast has the option of being as tame as you want it.

From Dewanatron:
"The Swarmatron was created to produce eight tones tuned approximately to one note, each tone slightly different in pitch to produce a complex and natural choral effect.
These eight oscillators can be played with a single ribbon controller (variable resistor) to move the pitch center up or down.
The span control expands the sound of a swarm of eight notes spread just a few cents apart into a wide chord of equidistant pitches spread over the entire spectrum. The player can "taffy pull" the resulting chord by using the span control and pitch ribbon in tandem.
Swarms of sine waves evoke swarms of angels congregating. Swarms of sawtooth waves evoke the swarming of bees. The sound of a host of voices, earthly or unearthly, has a unique character recognized by the ear even when they are folded together in unison."

Included in the purchase you will receive the key to power up the Swarmatron and an extra set of ribbons which are easily replaced at home
with the instruction of Leon Dewan who is very eager to help all Swarmatron owners.

This item is not only a wonderfully inspiring instrument but also a beautiful addition to your studio
that will raise a lot of questions from your visitors."

MATRIXSYNTH NAMM 2014: Big City Music Booth & Aerosmith Pics

NAMM 2014: Big City Music Booth

Highlights included Tiptop Audio, Future Retro, Surfin Kangaroo, Dewanatron, Analogue Systems and Metasonix. Note the prototype panning by Surfin Kangaroo. It has 8 Audio Inputs and a couple of outputs. You can configure it as an 8 in 4 out / 4 in 8 out / 2 in 16 out / 1 in 32 out. The black panel under it is just there to cover the rack and is not part of the module.

Don't miss Aerosmith's Steven Tyler. :)

Update: added some info on the Surfin Kangaroo prototype. It's actually a panning system, not a sequencer.

The BBC Radiophonic Workshop Gallery

This one in via Ununseptium warehouse. You'll find the full gallery with captions here.

The top left in the pic above almost looks like old stoves and dish/sink cabinets.  It's an interesting design choice for tape and audio mangling at the time.  The woman to the left and is Daphne Oram and below is Delyia Derbishire.

Left: "Caption: Daphne Oram demonstrating Radiophonic techniques on television by means of Brenell tape recorders and Jason oscillator."  It almost looks like something from Dewanatron.

Below: "Caption: Delia at the southern end of room 12, where she sits in front of the twelve Jason oscillators, an electromechanical frequency counter and the keying unit, as used to create the 'Doctor Who' theme. The dual gramophone turntable unit to her left is a BBC RP2/1."

After checking out the pics be sure to check out the labels below or use the top left search box to search on Daphne Oram, Oramics, Delia Derbyshire, and/or BBC for more posts featuring them here on MATRIXSYNTH.

THE DEWANATRON KEYED MELODY GIN

Note: Auction links are affiliate links for which the site may be compensated.

via this auction

See the seller's other items for more.

"The Melody Gin is an all analog synthesizer that has two oscillators, four LFO’s, an envelope generator and a host of other unique features. The Melody Gin can be externally clocked too: it’s amazing when used with the Elektron machinedrum impulse. The Melody Gin's envelope is triggered by the Elektron Machinedrum's Impulse machine.

See on this video

It makes some really fat bass frequencies AND is perfect for dr Who/BBC radiophonic type sounds. The TRIP IN and QUANT IN inputs (see pictures) are great to connect the Melody Gin to other gear. Comes with manual/operator’s guide.

These are absolutely beautiful looking and sounding instruments. All the designs are engineered from the ground up by Leon Dewan."

MATRIXSYNTH NAMM 2013: Big City Music Booth Pics

Tons of pics for tons of gear represented at the Big City Music booth this year. Pictured to the left are Roger Cordell and Stephi of Big City Music. Unfortunately I forget the name of the gentleman playing the new Mellotron M4000D MINI. I believe it is Markus, but I'm not 100% sure. Check out how slim it is - the Mellotron not the gentleman. Apparently it has the same specs as the model M4000D with a high quality Fatar keyboard that is velocity sensitive, weights only 21 pounds (9.5 kg), and should run $2100 when introduced.

Other new gear highlights at the booth include the Metasonix S-2000 Vacuum-Tube synthesizer (you'll find some details in this post for one that is currently for sale), the F-1 Complex Distortion Pedal, the new KOMA Electronic pedals, and the Jomox Akasha (check out the video here).

Other brands featured include Analogue Systems,  DewanatronDirty Boy PedalsCwejman, Critter & Guitari, Vermona, Eowave (who had their own booth this year), and various eurorack manufacturers."

Update: video re-uploaded 4/30.

"Check out our IndieGoGo here: http://www.indiegogo.com/dewanatron3D?a=490342

DEWANATRON! is the struggle of two inventors, cousins Brian and Leon Dewan to design, manufacture, sell, and play unique analogue synthesizers in an overwhelmingly digital world."

If you cross your eyes and focus on the center overlapped image you will see it in 3D. Remember though, if you cross your eyes for too long, they might stay that way.
