Dynacord ADD-One : Advanced Digital Drum Synthesizer sound demo

"Audio is direct out from the ADD-One into the interface.
The lagging of audio in the first half is what happens when using the internal sequencer AND tweaking parameters at the same time (remember this is mid-80's CPU power ha). When sequenced/triggered externally (as demonstrated in the second half), there is no lagging of course.
The ADD-One is a real beast of an electronic percussion instrument. It's a thick and rather high-end sound that is interestingly vintage yet modern at once. It doesn't sound 'period' or dated like other classic drum synthesizers and samplers of the 1980's, and gets avant-garde and experimental easily, if your into that. If not, you're really gonna hate the bulk of the video... haha

"It's been long time and there were several requests so here it is, the volume 1 of the Dynacord Digital Drums demo tape. The drum module list in the cover shows only the earliest ones available at the time (maybe around 1984). My collection is 65 modules and I still missed like more than 20 of them from very large ebay listing very long time ago. A pity I couldn't afford more of them at the time because they are pretty rare.

DYNACORD ADS Sample Library

"On Sequencer.de we started an initiative to preserve the DYNACORD ADS Sample Library by reading a bunch of old floppy disks and converting data in HFE format to be used by HxC floppy emulator. It is quite a decent coverage of the library as availble in 1989, but not complete.

Samples can be used in any sampler by manual conversion. Please see the readme.txt [below] for a bit more info.

P.S. Apparently this is the first ADS featuring on the site. There were a few verstions of the ADD posted here.

Readme.txt:

IMG files can be written to real floppy disks with Omniflop, which supports the ADS data structure.
HFE files are to be used with the HxC floppy emulator.

For users of softsamplers etc.: IMG files can be imported into Audacity in RAW Mode 16-Bit (use Big Endian format), sample data can then be used manually

Some disks had read errors, they are marked with err in the filename.
Some disks had been marked "wrong disk", so they may not load properly as part of a pair.

"Designed by the designers of Oberheim Xpander so it has a very modular structure, lfos, envelope, modifiers etc - unique.... far more than a drum machine.

Calibrated (see photos of tests completed, satisfactorily), latest firmware installed, buttons tact switches (soldering req'd) replaced and VFD screen installed. New battery installed too. Interface cable is new also, i made one up with new connectors - the cable is not cheap.

Replacing the tact buttons is not easy either - before some says this is listed for too much.

VFD is expensive, from Japan, no longer made and this is a new VFD last of a line.

Arrives with samples on disk and programs loaded into the memory - the programs are lost from most units on sale as internal battery has died.

Very esoteric piece of kit, 8 channels of audio, 8x analog CEM 3389 Filters - quicksilver sound. 50khz sampling rate, de-emphasis and it has 4x 'smash' gain compressor on input too.

Each voice has separate pitch, LFO, filter, env control and the separate pitch, very tape like (8x separate DACs/clocking), in particular opens up lots of possibilities

Used by JMJ and others - he refers to it as 'Dynacord Addi' on listings to CD. Some of the drums on Zoolook are dynacord the ones that ripple and change in pitch"

Legendary, rare, great sounding german tape echo in very good condition.

It has 4 channel input. With presto button you can speed up the motor, so it has a really wide range of delay time.

Perfect working.
Cosmetically: a small piece of foil is missing on the front top right (see photo),
otherwise very nice condition.

Comes with two piece of din-jack adaptors, and 3 piece of replacement tape.

The voltage is switchable."

"This is a very rare Dynacord ADD-one vintage drum synthesiser.

It is working, although the factory programs were lost when the battery was replaced (yes, they should have been backed up first).

The ROM samples were obviously not affected but the synth parameters/programs were lost. You can of course program your own sounds but there were some very nice patches in the original set so it might be worthwhile trying to find a copy."
