Rob Hordijk's TWINPEAK Filter in Eurorack by Epoch Modular

Published on Feb 18, 2015 Epoch Modular

"Quick Demo of the new filter. The prototyping stage has taken a bit longer than expected but hopefully it should be shipping to dealers by the early March. Will post a more detailed and informative video later this week."

Modular Synth Jam - The Great Projection

Published on Nov 17, 2014 Iteration and Discord

"This patch was largely inspired by the bucket brigade delay made by doepfer. It never clicked in my head where the name bucket brigade delay came from until I read the instruction manual, then it was clear and furthered my enjoyment of bbd style delay.

I guess its the same concept as a line of people passing water down the line, bucket to bucket. As is the case with this eurorack modular synth patch. Although the delay buckets do not carry water, they do pass along waves created by the benjolin.

The starting point the epoch modular benjolin. The benjolin is then patched into the manhattan analog vca. I'm using the make noise maths on self cycle to generate an envelope to keep the benjolin in check. That envelope is fed into the manhattan analog vca. The output of the vca goes into the doepfer bbd a-188-1 with 4096 stages. The mix output of the doepfer is fed into the cwejman mm6 to filter out some of the ultra high pitch oscillator in the doepfer bbd. I use the make noise erbe verb as an effects send on my analog mixer (off camera). I am doing live manipulation of the modcan quad lfo to alter the cv on the dopfer, cwejman and erbe verb.

I obviously like to make somewhat random noises.

Thanks for watching and please consider subscribing to this channel for more synthesizer videos. The iteration and discord channel is dedicated to sound synthesis and my main area of interest is modular synths."

Epoch Modular - Rob Hordijk's Benjolin with Doepfer A-143-9 & A-135-1

Published on Sep 16, 2014 isvisible

"I set out to do a full review of all the features of the Epoch Modular 'Benjolin' designed by Rob Hordijk. But I got caught up in what it was doing with the Doepfer A-143-9 and A-135-1 combination and didn't get any further.
Anyway, this video is just scratching the surface of what the Benjolin is capable of, I didn't even get close to showing all the possibilities, including cv control etc.

Here's the patch notes:
XOR, PWM, Low Pass & Highpass out from the Benjolin into each input of the A-135-1 Quad VCA.
Rungler out of the Benjolin into CV in on the A-143-9 Quadrature LFO
Each output of the A-143-9 to the CV each CV in on the A-135-1 Quad VCA

Benjolin and the bells

Published on Mar 23, 2014 staphlebug·11 videos

"Headphones recommanded, please watch in HD.

Quite a complex patch where the main actors are :

- Epoch Modular Rob Hordijk's Benjolin
- Mutable Instruments Braids
- Make Noise Wogglebug / Echophon / Optomix / Pressure Points
- Wiard Malekko Noisering
- Snazzy FX Wow & Flutter
- some Doepfer

Added some digital and spring reverbs, let it go, adjusted a couple of modulation factors from time to time... The Benjolin is a wonderful module, its sound and filters are fantastic and the cvs/gates it offers are crazy. The possibilities are endless, this patch shows only shows a tiny bit of what it can do.

Enjoy !

Benjolin Exploration #1

Published on Feb 27, 2014 Drone Star·1 video

"This is an early exploration with the Epoch Modular production version of Rob Hordijk's Bejonlin. Other modules involved include: Make Noise Wogglebug, Make Noise Maths, Intellijel Planar, and Snazzy FX Wow & Flutter. Valhalla Room is the reverb. Headphones are highly suggested so you are able to get the full effect of the stereo movement.

Enjoy and thanks for watching!

This is the first video for this channel, subscribe for many more. :)"

benjolin percussive rolls -- response to a question

Published on Aug 9, 2013 Epoch Modular·14 videos

"Regarding the percussive rolls, these are very easy to get. Basically, that's the Rungler in loop mode, with the rate on the oscillators (particularly B) going at a faster rate. The rungler output can be used as a clock also, and this comes in hand when the rates on the oscillators are up higher, because while both the pulse outs and the rungler run at -5/+5, peak to peak, because of the length and of the rungler Step patterns the positive edge comes at a much slow rate than that of the pulse outputs. In this way the rungler can be used to obtain percussive roll type effects from the benjolin outputs as well as with other modules.

With regard to clocking the rolls, it depends on what you mean, you can control where they drop initially, by using a precision clocked module such as the 4MS RCD or SCD modules, but you can't always control exactly where the rolling effect will end, this is because depending on the settings of the module, the loop function may also excite the rungler after the loop is complete. This being said, as long as you are using a precision cv to clock the hold pattern you can maintain a substantive amount of control over the behavior of the rungler as well as the other outputs. In addition, if you run precision triggers, gates or envelopes into the oscillator CVs and the filter cutoff this creates even more control over the chaotic functions of the benjolin. This is demonstrated in my video "in response to a question" where the trigger and gate out puts of the 4MS modules are being used as CVs for both oscillators and the filter, and later in the video to hold the rungler pattern as well. Keep in mind also that the chaotic behavior of the benjolin can be greatly limited (even eliminated) by using the Rungler attenuator knobs on the right of the panel. When you turn these all the way CCW, this breaks the interfence pattern that animates the aleatoric patterns that the core circuitry produces."

Ravi Shank Me - deux benjolin's with pressure points & echophone

Published on Aug 2, 2013 Epoch Modular·15 videos

"This was a little cheesy but fun piece I put together using two benjolins (Rob Hordijk) and a Make Noise echophone, pressure points and a wogglebug. The rungler and Pulse B out from the first benji (props to vicmod boyz for that :-) control the Pressure Points sequence clock and the Run cv. The audio output comes from the Low Pass Filter output of the second benji and into the phonogene (which is essentially being gang banged by the benji's non-filter outs) and then out my arse!"
