Gijs Gieskes WD80 Solar Powered Touch Synth

video upload by Gijs Gieskes

via gieskes.nl

"A solar powered synth where the solar power is integrated into the interface.

The WD80 refers to WD40, my French neighbour made the joke that it sounds like it needs WD-40, so i decided a good name for it is WD40 (i changed it to WD80 because of personal reasons and because WD40 is copyrighted).

The idea behind this synth is that you power it from the sun, but that the power is not just providing power, but it also acts as part of the interface. When there is less light the voltage goes down and then the frequency is also going down. When you use the synth you can walk around and for instance a tree above you will make a shade with allot of branches, this will give nice modulations in the sound especially when the wind blows a little bit.

It is using resistive touch contacts, so you can turn on the sound on the left side with one finger and the sound of the right side with another finger. There are two switches to turn on the left and right side on permanently, but it will be less loud then when you touch it. it will also be a little low pass filtered it seems when the switches are closed. So then when you touch it the osund will be louder and teh lowpass with be gone while you touch it.

The potmeter starves the power of the IC (HEF40106). The socket is a DIP socket so you can also try other versions of the 40106 series, for instance the CD40106, it might sound different.

The circle is connected to a oscillator that runs by itself, it is not directly connected to the output, but it somehow effects it allot.

The 4 lines are connected to 2 schmitt trigger circuits of the 40106, the center two lines are connected to the outputs of the schmitt triggers.

The output can drive headphones, there is no volume control so if it is to loud for you or the volume is to low you can use other headphones. I am using Sennheiser HD480ii.

For use in concerts you can use a halogen light to power the synth, and because it uses you bodies resistance to transfer the sound you can get hum (50hz or 60hz). To reduce this hum you can use a hum reducer that i am also selling."

The GND-1T (Speak & Glitch GND-1T) | Circuit Bent Speech Chip Synthesizer

video upload by Shirato_Noise

Follow-up to the Speak & Glitch GND-1

"I'm very happy to finally be able to introduce this instrument. The GND-1T is a synthesizer developed by Richard van Hoesel and is the successor to the GND-1. The major improvements are the touch screen and the addition of built-in drum sounds. This allows for the simultaneous generation of circuit bent speech chip sounds and chaotic rhythms.

This video introduces the preset sounds and twists them a bit. No additional effects.

Check out his web page for further details and manuals for this instrument.
https://richardvanhoesel.com/gnd1t/

As a backstory, I have provided a few sample sets for the drum sounds of this instrument. These are my acoustic drums, percussion sounds, and some unique synthesized electronic drum sounds. I hope you enjoy them!"

Seofon Introduction: What Sounds Can It Create?

video upload by Sonic Seed

"Mad Kid Empire's first synth: Seofon - After a year of design and production, the Seofon is finally here.

It produces a sound that sounds like a water droplet, or perhaps the next moment it will be generating a noise as intense as sawing wood.

Seofon

At the heart of the Seofon is a noise generating circuit consisting of seven groups of nodes in the centre, with direct outputs as noise, which are self-wired to form self-oscillations, or can be interfered with by inputting signals to the nodes to generate fixed frequency rhythms.

"Mad Kid Empire's first synth: Seofon - After a year of design and production, the Seofon is finally here.

It produces a sound that sounds like a water droplet, or perhaps the next moment it will be generating a noise as intense as sawing wood.

At the heart of Seofon is an organic noise generation circuit consisting of seven nodes in the centre, which outputs noise directly and generates rhythms by feeding signals to the nodes to interfere with them. Seofon itself provides three sets of pulse oscillators to adjust the pulse width of each set, and positive and negative phase outputs. Different sound events are generated by extracting information from the nodes into the filter. All sounds originate from the interference and extraction of noise signals from the seven sets of nodes. The synthesiser package and circuitry was designed by Mad Kids Empire synthesiser designer xamynot; the painted artwork on the back of the synthesiser was drawn from artist Yu Zhi.

Seofon itself provides three sets of pulse oscillators, each of which can be adjusted for pulse width, and a forward and reverse phase output. Different sound events are generated by extracting information from the nodes into the filter.
All sound comes from interfering with and extracting noise signals from the seven sets of nodes.

The contacts make it possible for Seofon to be virtuosic, by touching different contacts in combination to quickly generate instant sound events, which generate a series of linked influences like a butterfly effect.

The Seofon lit version is without metal contacts and comes with stereo outputs.
Seofon standard version is with metal contacts, two left and right mono channels and one stereo output."

"Clandestine Projects go by many strange names. Projects which changed the course of history for better or worse. Manhattan, Bluebook, MK Ultra— hell—even Alan Parsons…

PROJECT ANTIDOTE (codename THE MACHINE) is the latest of such world-changing endeavors. But rather than another top-down government control-scheme funded by covert appropriation, the Military, Moonies, the Heritage Foundation or Rand Corp— PROJECT ANTIDOTE is conducted by a grassroots coalition of outsiders far from the eyes & ears of the surveillance-state.

Miles down a random dirt road a working group was assembled from the ranks of OFF!—the Hardcore Punk Supergroup—& Trogotronic’s Subhuman Resistor-Wranglers. Their mission: Design the ANTI-SYSTEM.

While silicon valley oligarchs were squandering unimaginable sums to develop “brain-enhancement implants” at zillion-dollar vivisection labs, PROJECT ANTIDOTE relentlessly refined THE MACHINE at a secret forest shanty dubbed “THE PUNK WORKS”. Success was soon realized when the pathway for organic audio-to-mental frequency-coupling was established, whereby minds are FREED rather than controlled. What’s more THE MACHINE viscerally resonates with only the MOST radical free-radicals to achieve a critical mass of illuminated population no longer subject to THE SYSTEM.

THE MACHINE includes a holistic tuning array of

11 Parameter Knobs
10 Element Light Emitting Array
All-Analog Audio Circuitry
Right vs. Left Hemispherical Design
Endless Audio-to-Brain Setting Possibilities
12v Worldwide Power Supply
Plug & Play for rapid deployment at blistering amplitudes, its immediate effects are clearly notable when the uninitiated strike a peculiar pose with each fore-finger inserted deep into the ear canal. Congratulations: IT’S WORKING!

As a redundant precaution, plans are being subliminally disseminated via unlimited multimedia release. Hidden diagrams are embedded in LP sleeves, Sportswear & Midnight Movie plots only visible in complete darkness. This way if all our efforts fail, the intrepid underground technicians among us can independently construct THE MACHINE in shanties the world over."

box of uncertainty

video upload by studio snippets

"A new unit from a brilliant new designer – exclusive to Soundgas – we absolutely love this wild and unpredictable box which can create stunning sounds and rhythms from pretty much anything.

The BOU is a characterful and unpredictable audio sampler, designed for experimentation and improvisation. please feed it a wide variety of sound sources including but not limited to field recordings and household objects, acoustic instruments, synthesizers and electronic equipment, songs by your favourite recording artist (or your least favourite…).

There are no menus, sub-patches, presets or save functions. The BOU is immediate and imperfect.

Please note that these are handbuilt and hand-finished units; some imperfections to the finish and knobs is to be expected.

The user manual can be found here

Record

The capture button records for the length that it’s pressed for (maximum 3 seconds), recording from the built-in microphone, unless a line input is connected on the back in which case that source is captured. the looped sample begins to play back immediately.

Mix

There is no overall volume control for the BOU. both of the playback samplers have their own level control, as does the fragment space and occult emanation parameters which are routed as pre-fade effects.

Play

There are two sample players which behave differently: particle and fragment. each has a control for length, speed and level.

There is additional control for pitch and direction of particle, whilst fragment can be sent to space.

Occult emanation should be used liberally with caution.

Power supply:

Requires a 9v centre positive supply (not included).

External measurements (including knobs):
24 x 18 x 8 cm"

NOYSTOISE NTDD Dual Delay Dub Siren Mini Synth

DEMO video upload by NOYSTOISE

"Short demo of the NTDD dual delay dub siren mini synth. More details available at www.noystoise.com"

See the prototype here.

via NOYSTOISE

"The NTDD is a PT2399 based dual-delay(DD) processor, and analog Dub-Siren circuit.

DELAY:
There are two PT2399 delay chips in series with independent delay time controls on the X and Y axis of the "TIME" joystick(Left).
The delay-mix and feedback-amount are controlled together by the "ECHO" knob. The "REGEN X2" switch enables the output from delay-chip 1 to be fed back to its input, as well as to delay-chip 2's input. When disengaged, only delay-chip 2 will have feedback(echo).
The Echo and Feedback circuits are designed more for experimental exploratory noise, and less for traditional audio processing.
The delay times can go very low and become very distorted, and the feedback is set very high to allow maximal feedback and self-filtering with the use of auto-leveling.
An optical compressor is used to prevent feedback runaway, while allowing lower signals to regenerate continuously.
An internal trimmer resistor can be used to adjust the sensitivity of the compressor.

SIREN:
The "Dub-Siren" consists of a square-wave VCO, gated envelope generator and LFO.
The envelope generator is active while the "GATE" switch is held, and the "ENV"(envelope) knob determines the Attack and Release time when the Gate switch is pressed and released.
The three position switch below the Envelope knob determines the Envelope knob's range. In the upper position, the Envelope knob will have a fast attack, and the knob will only change the release time of the envelope. In the center position, the Envelope knob range will be split between Attack and Release. Increasing the Attack time will in-turn decrease the Release time, and vice-versa. In the lower position, the envelope will have a fast Release time, and the ENV knob will only change the Attack time.
By default, the envelope generator controls the volume of the square-wave VCO, but can also be used to modulate either the Pitch of the VCO or the Rate of the LFO with the "MOD" 3-way switch. In the center position, the MOD switch is "OFF".
The LFO modulates the Pitch of the VCO.
The LFO can be set to Square-wave or Triangle-wave with the "SQR-TRI" switch. The LFO Depth and Rate are controlled with the X and Y axis of the right joystick.
The LFO voltage can be offset with the "BIAS" knob. While the LFO depth is set to minimum, the BIAS knob can be used to change the pitch range of the VCO independent of the LFO.

The NTDD also comes equipped with;
Volume knob(VOL)
Power ON/OFF switch with LED
1/8 inch(3.5mm) input jack
1/4 inch line output jack
5.1mm DC adapter(9V tip-positive)
Built-in speaker
3XAAA battery compartment."
