New Mort Garson LP: 'Journey to the Moon and Beyond'

Mort Garson - Moon Journey (Official Visualizer) video upload by Sacred Bones Records

via The Bob Moog Foundation

"The 1969 Moon landing happened 54 years ago last week -- and we've got the soundtrack. 🌕 👩‍🚀

After launching into space on July 16, the Apollo 11 crew landed on the moon's surface 54 years ago last Thursday.

The news soundtrack was straight from a Moog IIIc modular synthesizer -- and the mind of the brilliant early Moogist Mort Garson.

For decades, the audio was presumed lost, the only trace of it appearing as part of this old video clip.

But according to Sacred Bones Records, an audio archivist came across a copy of the master tape. Now, a new Mort Garson LP, 'Journey to the Moon and Beyond,' includes the soundtrack to the live broadcast of the Apollo 11 moon landing, as first heard on CBS News.

MJ’s “Beat It” Intro - Real Sound & Story

video upload by Anthony Marinelli Music

"In this video Kevin Maloney demonstrates how the intro sound on “Beat It” from Michael Jackson’s Thriller album was inspired by the blue vinyl LP titled The Incredible Sounds of Synclavier II [embedded below and previously posted here - you can find pics of the record and included brochures here. There's currently one on eBay for $259.95 here]. Kevin and Anthony Marinelli show you how the sound was programmed and performed in the studio for Michael to use on “Beat It”. This video also contains the story behind the sound and highlights how far Michael would go to satisfy his appetite for unusual sounds.

In this series Anthony breaks down some of the most icons synthesizer patches that he programmed for Michael Jackson’s Thriller

Anthony's musical touch as both composer and performer is connected with some of the most influential creative minds over the last 40 years. He’s composed and conducted original orchestral scores for over 80 feature films including Young Guns, Internal Affairs, The Man From Elysian Fields, 15 Minutes and Planes, Trains & Automobiles, been commissioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic for his symphonic work "In the Family Way", written over one thousand TV commercials in a myriad of musical styles, co-founded Levels Audio Post (LA's premiere post production facility) and performed and arranged on big-box-office films and influential hit records such as Michael Jackson's Thriller.

His extensive work as a young arranger, orchestrator and performer for Quincy Jones, Jack Nitzsche, Lamont Dozier, Arthur Rubenstein and Giorgio Moroder was vital in launching his own career. His early years pioneering modular analog synthesizers along with his wide-ranging music scholarship positioned Anthony at the center of the music technology revolution. He attended the University of Southern California School of Music as a piano and composition major.

Don't Say Goodbye by Jay Wires

video upload by Jay Wires

Some info on the gear used, via Jay Wires:

"I used Patrick Cowley’s Sequential Circuits Pro-One for a few of the sounds. It had remained unused since his death in 1982 until 2022 when Tone Tweakers refurbished it and added MTG Turbo CPU and MIDI (reversible mods). I also used the Roland Juno-60 I got from my friend Vince. The rest of the sounds I dialed up from scratch on basic Logic softsynths, except for the piano, which was a preset."

---

On the release:

"‘Don’t Say Goodbye’ is the fifth single from Jay Wires.

New York City based synthesist-songwriter Jay Wires dials up catchy electropop infused with human emotion - synthpop art with a human heart. With a long history of dealing vintage synths to serious recording artists, Jay Wires finally started releasing music of his own in August 2022 through Yes Trigger Music.

‘Don’t Say Goodbye’ is a true story about being ghosted by a narcissist during the isolation and loneliness of COVID lockdown, cleverly disguised as an upbeat synthpop ditty that some may find reminiscent of Yazoo or The Postal Service.

‘Don’t Say Goodbye’ was suddenly released on July 7, 2023 without any prior promotion.

Mamotreco - Edit4

video upload by Mamotreco

"This is a synth edit of a cheesy but vibey late 80s UK freestyle track. I kept the strongest vocal parts, added some backing vocals, and new synth layers. I also wrote an outro with a new bass line and processed different parts of the source material to add grit and interesting time-stretched juxtapositions. I went for a bit of a vaporwave approach when putting it all together.

This edit is available right here: https://mamotreco.bandcamp.com/album/..."

MUSICGEN AI Generated Electronic Music

Two MUSICGEN AI generated releases in via Liquid Sky Berlin.

First up:

AI sessions #01 - brainFKK noise - entirely created by AI by Gehirn Bernstein featuring MusicGen & Dr Walker

"all sounds you hear were generated with and by MUSICGEN
an AI freeware
arranged and mixed in ableton live
100% of the income of this release - well.... its not a "real" release - more a kind of test what is possible - goes into the Liquid Sky reforestation project.

so lets go & plant some trees!"

2nd:

#AI techno #01 - created with artificial intelligence by djungle fAIver

"Fresh from the digital womb of MUSICGEN, an AI that spins "text-to-music", comes this experimental release.

We kicked off with our hopes tuned to minimal, questioning if this machine intelligence could vibe with our underground ethos.

But, damn, the bot surprised us, spitting out raw, pulsating bad ass underground beats that made our speakers throb and clip.

On track 02 & 05 we cheated :
on track 02 we added a drumloop in the background as the AI generated loops didn t have much high freqs.

On track 05 we sprinkled in a touch of 303, just to spice up the synthetic stew. The rest, though? 100% AI machine-crafted. Pure digital grungey dirty noisey artificial intelligence techno, birthed from MUSICGEN's binary brain.

We were only using Ableton for arrangements and mixdown and some FX like eqs and compressors.

Sure, the AI's BY FAR not perfect - but the ride's only just begun.

We did not correct rendering errors from the AI.
Some of the generated loops are really WAY out of timing.

100% of the income from this release goes into the Liquid Sky reforestation.

Hainbach - A Voice Magnetic | The One Take Recording Sessions

video upload by HAINBACH

"This is an excerpt from my new Album 'A Voice Magnetic'. You can hear and see all the pieces I recorded as one-takes.

Voice Magnetic by Hainbach is the enigmatic Berlin based artist’s sonic diary of 2022. On his sixth release on Seil Records, He collages the sounds he made and the ones that surrounded him over the course of twelve months into a powerfully intimate ambient experience.

In his studio or on travels —Hainbach always is working on new material and allows the locations he records his tracks in to find their way into the music. Consequently, on many tracks you can can hear the outside bleeding in — seagulls and waves on 'Izmir', the voices of his children while recording the piano or the sirens of Neukölln’s police cars in background.

The connecting threads between these pieces are magnetic tape and the human voice — hiss and breath. The result are 15 immersive ambient pieces that make up Voice Magnetic.
Often short like the moments that spark them. Fading and intricate, honest and pure.
Voice Magnetic is released on April 25th, 2023 via Seil Records on Cassette Tape and Digital (Downloads are free/name-your-price for the first two weeks) via Bandcamp. Streaming platforms will follow on May 10th."

Instruōctional Live 3: Signal Sounds Session 2023

video upload by Instruō

"In February I had the pleasure of performing in the brand new events space hosted at Signal Sounds, Glasgow.

I performed a live set and followed it with a workshop/patch breakdown/Q&A.

It was a great space to perform and present in. Great audience with some excellent questions!
The performance was included as my personal contribution to the recent compilation published on the Instruō Record Label.
Please check it out here:
https://instruo.bandcamp.com/album/in..."

"When I first started Instruō I was simply making things to make sounds with, with only a vague direction in mind. As things grew and people started showing interest in my designs I settled on the motto/descriptor:

'I make sounds with the things that I make to make sounds with'
Skip forward to current day Instruō (2023) and the team has grown considerably. Instruō has evolved into an operation so far beyond what I could have imagined possible. The motto has naturally evolved to:

"We make sounds with the things that we make to make sounds with"

My hope with this record label is to showcase some of the work of my colleagues and collaborators. I have the absolute privilege of getting to work daily with some of the most creative people I've ever met. I get to do what I do because of the incredible support of Instruō users and team that Instruō has become.

I hope you enjoy the sounds that were made with the things that we made to make the sounds with.

Singularity (DiN78) by Node

Node vintage modular, Paddington Station and Master rock studio 1994 video upload by David Bessell

"Full album available here https://din.org.uk/album/singularity-...
Retro video footage taken from a live performance on Paddington Station and recording sessions at Master Rock studios London in 1994. The footage from Master Rock was filmed by Mat Osman of Suede. The track 'Continental Drift' appears on the latest DiN release of material from the 1994/5 Node archive. Previously unreleased apart from the track Terminus it features the original line up of Node which included Gary Stout. alongside Dave Bessell, Ed Buller and Flood."

"Singularity is the legendary “lost” Node album. Recorded at the same time as their original sessions in 1994 this has DiN stalwart Dave Bessell join Ed Buller & Flood alongside original member Gary Stout. Presented here for the first time, mastered to modern standards but otherwise untouched and in its original form, recorded to two track with no overdubs. As a bonus the track “Terminus” is included with this release. A fascinating insight into one of the bands that helped spark the analogue revival back in the mid 90's. Mainly unreleased material sees them formulating their take on the classic Berlin school sound using their trademark mountain of vintage analogue modulars. Intriguingly this could almost be an early take on Berlin style techno in places too. An influential group of producers setting their controls for the heart of the sun.
