I really like the Z-DSP (as many of you know) and it's great to see others develop for that platform. Vertigo has some great sounds with stands out for me being the side chain hall and the BBD emulations with gorgeous grit and filter emulation on the feedback paths. «Just like Black Shape's track “Doom Room”, remixed by Franz Alice Stern, “Doom Room”'s video has been remixed too; starting from the hand-drawn character of the original animation videoclip, here the little monster has become a sculpture, again realized by the artist Matteo Giampaglia. That cute bi-dimensional baby-monster is again protagonist, but now it's physical and corporeal, lit up by the fire in a mysterious night shooting, among flowers and sparks.

The fire twinkles both inside the monster and in the environment that surrounds him, like an element that gives life to the monster's rough materiality, just like the pervasive rhythm of the track which permeates the sounds and the melodies.»

The Bereshit aleph, the first chapter of the biblical Genesis, was written on the surface of an egg, symbol of the principle of life, to tell how the Bereshit Elohim, principle transcending the divinity, created the sky and the earth, the life breath and the chaos.

We have written through images our idea of life birth, discovering a complex identity, between nature and power of the mind.

This black and white animated videoclip elaborates the visual experiences of a distant past in a highly contemporary language.

This work explores the tradition of the Thaumatrope, the nineteenth-century optical toy acknowledged as a precursor of moving image media. It is a disk with a picture on each side, attached to two pieces of string, whose twirling creates the illusion of interpenetration of the parts.

In the videoclip, the soft oscillation of the disk is accompanied by the slightly hinted movements of expressive nineteenth-century faces, turning their glances into smiles or grimaces. These faces call back to humanity, while the music weaves the weft of a mantra; the insertion of abstract elements and geometric graphics moves the vision towards a typically electronic imagery. The flight of the insects on the disk at the ending becomes a metaphor for the living buzzes of the modular synthesizers’ sounds.

The short loops remind of both the patterns of techno music, with its obsessive rhythms, and the circular processes from the 19-century Thaumatrope which re-activate the visual impact through the digital-born animated GIF, by means of a fast and highly effective cinematic language. The audiovisual experience of the videoclip becomes a micro-object that intertwines several contemporary artistic practices, as well as recovering the heritage of the optical toys, suspended between stillness and motion.

Ink and the materiality of painting are the true protagonists of this completely handmade videoclip, shooting the making of paintings in order to explore the creative process with a sophisticated visual language. The liquid Indian ink is lead by a path made of water on paper, to overcome the boundaries of contingency, while the content pays tribute to the previous research in animation and also to the origin of the audiovisual media.

The research explored by Eadward Muybridge with his Zoopraxography, and specifically his series Animal Locomotion, focused on the physiological motus, using examples such as birds in flight. At the end of the nineteenth century, Muybridge pioneered the techniques of analyzing the phases of motion, by pursuing research on physicality, which engages with the idea of repetition.

The movement of the wings during the flight of a bird deals with the same repetition that occurs within the human breath. Quoting the title of this track, when you ‘hold your breath’ it means that you interrupt the mechanic action of breathing, regardless if it’s crucial for life. It means that something might have a so powerful impact on your mind and your emotions that you can even suspend your biological functions to research an ecstatic suspension. Life keeps its mysterious meaning in this ‘something’: the miracle of the living beings and their movements, the lyrical purity of painting, the deeply sensitive allure of music, the universal power of beauty... A dark and deep landscape can be escaped by a flight, as much as a voice can rescue a listener from getting lost in a forest of sounds. Music and painting, that were historically the keys for the beauty in life, here work very similarly: according to ANGLE, both are analog and living, like a full-bodied material experience.

An intimate and triumphal atmosphere, such as the rise of the sun in the morning, welcomes a nymph appearing from the seawater.

The discovery of some stone heads, memories of a past time, mark the path from the sea to the dense forest.

The passage of time is beaten by continuous timelapses; the light shape the rocks, pierce the treetops and crosses the clouds, the wind ruffles the water of the lake and get the nymph's hair swayed.

In this worldview, music represents a universal language.

Un'atmosfera intimista e trionfale come il sorgere del sole al mattino accoglie una ninfa nascente dalle acque marine.

La scoperta di alcune teste in pietra, memorie di un tempo passato, segnano il percorso dal mare al fitto bosco.

Lo scorrere del tempo è scandito da continui timelapse; la luce scolpisce le pietre, penetra le fronde degli alberi e solca le nuvole, il vento increspa l'acqua del lago e fa ondeggiare i capelli della ninfa.

In questa visione del mondo, la musica rappresenta un linguaggio universale.

An imaginary character, here presented as a top hat, rides a bicycle, crossing landscapes taken from English prints of the eighteenth century, persevered in the British Library. In the background we see St John’s College, St Saviours Church and Cambridge, animated and resonating with light and shadows, offering up a playful tale between abstraction and reality.

The videoclip for the song "Doom Room" by the duo Black Shape comes from a collaboration between painter Matteo Giampaglia and graphic designer Piero Fragola. It is a work completely hand-drawn and animated digitally.

The dexterity and the dirty mark of the real drawing rise on the rhythms and the notes of the track.

The subject is a lysergic journey: the protagonist is a fictional character, whose traits are not defined (is he a human? or a little alien?). At the end of his travel he will find himself, ironically. His nightmares set, in the darkness of reason and civilization, a feature of neglect and global pollution. The deformed imagery of the drawings deals with those elements that apparently seem to be negative, such as the monsters, that instead have the positive function of cleaning the environment.

Hallucination and cuteness in a black and white frenzy.

A crazy experiment and a consummate crime within the walls of the Specola Museum in Florence are the key elements of a thriller with a retro flavor. A briefcase contains the object removed from the crime scene, the last piece missing of a synthesizer built in the musical duo studio ANGLE.

"Tiptop Audio was founded in 2009 when Gur Milstein started building his first electronic musical instruments in his laboratory in Hollywood, California.

His creations became popular immediately and the demand for the modular synthesizers produced by Tiptop Audio grew rapidly.

Today, in just over six years, many members of the international community of composers and electronic musicians create their own sounds and shape their own work by using Tiptop Audio’s equipment. In 2015, Tiptop Audio took a further step in its influential presence with the birth of Tiptop Audio Records. The label produces analog music manufactured from modular synthesizers with a dance-oriented vocation.

The line-up for Tiptop Records includes big names of a scene now described as ‘Modular Techno’, which consists of a fast growing group of artists interested in expanding their compositional techniques through modular synthesizer systems.

The vinyl format is a testimony to the label’s dedication to produce music in a physical form. The result is a four side, double LP packaged in original artwork (including a special poster) by Italian artist Matteo Giampaglia, with handmade lettering by Caterina Scardillo. It is an invitation to a territory of oscillations, and a trip of 10 (+ 2 extra digital) tracks that reconsiders the concept of sound design applied to electronic club music.

The teaser video samples the vibes of the new issue's inherent contagion. Videos for the individual tracks are set to follow by a fresh roster of new talent.

A side: Matt Lange - Qvcamx/ Angle - Time portraits
The first groove introduces Matt Lange’s track, an American producer who has joined up with DeadMau5 on Mau5trap. This intense 8 minute track is sustained by an immersion of rhythm full of atmosphere.
The Angle project is known for the development of audio-video combinations in their performance. They produced a club track rich in melodic sequences, perfectly balanced in a nonlinear fashion.

B side: Joao Ceser - System Failure/ Markus Fix - Texter
Joao Ceser is presently one of the leading figures in Italy of modular techno. His track, System Failure, builds an inevitable dance floor trap from which you can not escape.
The following track is Texter by Markus Fix of Sven Vath’s Cocoon. It takes us into a nocturnal atmosphere, reminiscent of ‘Blade Runner’.

C side: Black Shape - Doom Room/ Drumcell & Luis Flores - Submission of Thought/ Hubot - Riz 7
Black Shape makes its debut on Tiptop Audio Records with a track with an acid bass line featuring the dobro guitar played by Fabrizio Canale and vocals by Piero Fragola. The track exemplifies the theme and intentions of this project.

Drumcell (of Chris Liebing’s CLR) and Luis Flores pump out a distorted sound with an industrial flavour that drastically changes the atmosphere to a state of ecstatic proportions. Hubot takes us back to a club vibe with a groovy yet dark sound driven by a relentless sequence of beats.

D side: Florian Meindl - Operating Temperature/ John Tejada - Fourier Tranform/ Scanner - Valbor
Florian Meindl opens the last side of the release with a fast-paced rhythm and a syncopated sound texture defined by harmonic sequences.

John Tejada (artist of Germany’s Kompakt Records) turns the table with a melodic mind trip, keeping in focus the weaving of sounds and the bass line.
Lastly, Scanner closes the compilation with an avant-garde orchestration, endorsing the ambition of the label to seek new sonic territory.
