The SER-2020 is a monophonic semi-modular analog synthesizer with an formant filter section, designed to use as standalone synthesizer or in combination with Eurorack modules. Inspired by the Synton Syrinx *(1) added the flexibility of an MS-20. Its filter design features a combination of a 24dB/octave VC Low Pass Filter, and two independent Resonant VC Peak Filters for precise and dynamic sound shaping. The sound is ranging from solid bass sounds to articulated formant effects. Other features on the SER-2020 are the Touch ‘N Bend Control together with the MPE (MIDI Polyphonic Expression) capabilities makes the SER-2020 a special instrument which response to its player. The flexible routing makes the SER-2020 a versatile machine for sound effects."

"Rebuilt of the ultra rare SYNTON SYRINX Dutch keyboard synth. I cannot compare but the unusual filter setting of 2 bandpass and 1 lowpass VCFs, with 4 different routings give a lot of modulation freedom and rendition of rather unusual sounds.

Since I am not a fan of black gear. I tried my best an contacted ANALOG FX. And they had been so kind as to manufacture a custom blue face synth which I have only seen in some preproductions units and, of course, in the historic SYRINX which was available also in red."

Rebuilt of the ultra rare SYNTON SYRINX Dutch keyboard synth.
I cannot compare but the unusual filter setting of
2 bandpass and 1 lowpass VCFs, with 4 different routings
give a lot of modulation freedom and rendition of rather unusual
sounds.

Since I am not a fan of black gear. I tried my best in 2023 and contacted
ANALOG FX. And they had been so kind as to manufacture a
custom blue face synth which I have only seen in some
preproductions units and, of course, in the historic
SYRINX which was available also in red.

For the image angle had to use the wide angle and so only a quite low resolution. So there is not much detail. Sorry for that."

Red Synton Syrinx Audio Demo

"Audio demo of my Synton Syrinx. This one has been serviced and the power input changed from 220 to 110V.

The Syrinx uses seven Curtis chips for its VCO's, VCF's and envelopes. It has two analog VCO's, a sub-oscillator and three flexible voltage-controlled filters. You can switch between the three filters for either a 24 dB lowpass, or two bandpass filters, and they can be patched in four different ways (series/parallel). Additionally the Syrinx has two LFO's, FM, PWM, osc-sync, 2 ADSR envelopes, ring modulation, portamento and a cool touch-pad that can control various parameters from pitch-bending to the LFO rate. The Syrinx's Mixer section lets you adjust levels for each VCO and the sub-osc as well as the Noise Generator and Ring Modulator. Unfortunately, being released around 1983, the Syrinx just missed out on MIDI and patch memory options.

Polyphony - Monophonic
Oscillators - 2 VCO's (tri, saw, square, PWM) plus 1 sub-oscillator, ring modulation and noise gen.
LFO - 2
Filter - 2 Bandpass filters (Peak 1 & 2) and 1 Lowpass 24dB/oct filter. Individual cutoff and resonance controls, ADSR Envelope, Keyboard Tracking and LFO modulation
VCA - 2 ADSR filters (one can modulate the VCF)
Keyboard - 44-keys (3 1/2-octave, no velocity, low-note priority)
Arpeggiator - None
Sequencer - None
Memory - None
Control - CV / Gate (Moog type). Touch 'N Bend Pad.
Date Produced - 1983/84"
