Waldorf Introduces Blofeld Plugin - Sounddemo | Trailer & Tutorial

video upload by WaldorfMusicChannel

Blofeld Plugin - Tutorial

video upload by WaldorfMusicChannel

via Waldorf

The versatile Waldorf synthesizer classic Blofeld now also available as a plugin for your DAW.

With the Blofeld plugin you can also control your hardware and it is compatible with existing Blofeld soundsets.

The sound generation of the Blofeld plugin delivers the typical fat and rich Waldorf sound character that so many Waldorf users worldwide love when they are playing their Q, Q+, Microwave, Microwave II/XT or even the flagship, the Wave. The secret of its sound is a powerful wavetable engine that enables these intense and expressive sounds.

This unique synthesis system is based on the revolutionary PPG synthesizers of the early 80s. When you hear the Blofeld for the first time, you’ll immediately remember those edgy, assertive or bell-like timbres that have been an integral part of countless worldwide hits since the PPG era.

Blofeld Vst Editor Beta 2

via Telmo on the Waldorf List:
"I have been working a lot on this VST editor and here is the new beta!

Download [See Update below for new version]

New features:
- Panel can be synchronized with current Blofeld patch ("Get Patch" button)
- Reacts to either Midi CC or Sysex
- Full Oscilliators, Filters and LFO editing
- Updated GUI
- More editable parameters (no longer Midi CC only)
- ... some bugs :-/

Other features:
- Knobs are updated on screen if edited on the Blofeld
- Parameters saved and recalled when saving/loading your project

Usage:
- Disable your Blofeld midi device in you host (will crash otherwise)
- Load the VST and select you master keyboard (or any other controller) as
input for the midi track
- Select the Midi input of your Blofeld
- Select the Midi output of your Blofeld
- (Optional) "Get Patch"
- That's it!

Was tested on following hosts:
- Cubase 4, Cubase SX3
- Reaper
- Renoise

I have noticed that the plugin really requires that the Blofeld midi inputs be free when selecting them. So check your host for this. Also, I have noticed that Novation Automap software sometimes hijacks the Blofeld midi ports thus making it impossible to select them.

This plugin is made with Synthmaker and thus will not be available on MacOS. Sorry.
However, it may work with a VST/AU wrapper (not tested as I don't have a Mac).

Feel free to suggest improvements and report bugs.

I hope you will like this new version!

Probable next improvements (but don't expect all of this in next beta!):
- More editable parameters (the goal is to have them all in order to have
some kind of "Total recall")
- Midi channel selection
- Parts management
- Maybe Sysex output

Have a nice day!
Telmo"

Update via Softknobs in the comments: "This is an outdated version of the plugin.
Newest version is at the official website,
http://www.softknobs.com

Feel free to report any problem or suggest features."

Waldorf Blofeld Dark Atmospheric Ambient Presets Sound Demo

video upload by Anton Anru

"Obscured Waves is a collection of 64 presets for Waldorf Blofeld that explores the darker, vintage-inspired side of sound design. The bank is built around the idea of imperfection—gritty, lo-fi textures combined with constantly shifting timbres created through rich modulation.
These sounds are alive, expressive, and full of character, bringing a distinctive atmosphere to any track, performance, or video production.

🌌 The soundset includes: 9 Textures, 7 Leads, 15 Pads, 11 Strings, 6 Rhythmical, 8 Keys, 8 Drones.

📦 Get these presets: https://antonanru.sellfy.store/p/blof...

💎 The timbres span a wide spectrum: dark, noisy, lo-fi, retro, romantic, melancholic, nostalgic, soundscapes, atmospheric, detuned, cold, distant, dull, massive, epic, bright, orchestral, distorted, metallic, tense, atonal, non-harmonic, FX-like, evolving, and sweeping.

🎛 The patches include dozens of modulations, adding motion and variation.
Velocity sensitivity and ModWheel assignments are mapped for expressive control, making each sound performance-friendly. ModWheel adds modulations — brightening the sound,
introducing vibrato, shifting tone, or adding extra movement for dynamic performance.

🔮 What sets Obscured Waves apart is its fusion of experimental tones and playable musical textures. Whether you’re crafting ambient, techno, cinematic, IDM, industrial, drum and bass, retrowave, or any style that leans into a dark atmospheric or moodier aesthetic, this soundset will give your music depth and identity.

🧿 Each preset was meticulously designed to deliver a tactile, emotional experience. Techniques such as noise layering, distortion, FM, and vintage tape emulation were used to evoke an analog character from this digital instrument. The result is a visceral set of sounds that feel aged, nostalgic, and imperfect—in all the right ways.

💡 Technical Information. How to import/upload presets.
The presets are compatible with hardware Blofeld versions: desktop and keyboard; and with the official Blofeld VST Plugin.
Make sure you are using the latest hardware firmware and vst-plugin versions.

No Samples and third-party wavetables are required. The soundset is made with the factory content only.
The soundset comes in multiple formats:
Bank in .syx format (Bank G)
Bank in .mid format (Bank G)
Bank in .blo format for Auraplugins Blofeld Editor/Librarian users
Bank in .bpz format for the official Blofeld VST plugin users
Separate presets in .syx format
Separate presets in .mid format

The bank contains presets in slots 01–64. Slots 65–128 are Init Presets. SysEx transfer will overwrite the entire Bank G. Make a backup before loading.
Set Device ID to 0 (zero).
To load the presets onto the synthesizer, use a SysEx file utility: SysEx Librarian by Snoize (for Mac) or MIDI-OX/Bome Send SX (for Windows).
Connect the Blofeld to your computer via USB and select it as the MIDI device in the application settings.
Load the .syx or .mid bank file into the application, select it, and click Send/Play.
The bank will be transferred to the synthesizer within a minute."

Polar Orbit - A Live Synth Jam (Blofeld, reface CP, Specular Tempus)

Lanthan O'Ide

"Dunno what style this is. It's not really Berlin School, it's clearly not Ambient...
Let's just call it "Indie Electronica", that can't be wrong, right? ^^'
Anyways, I had heaps of fun jamming, hope you'll like enjoy listening too. ;)
================================
For those playing along at home:The key is G major / E minor, the tempo is around 110 BPM. But I'm using the Blofeld's internal clock, and I'm not sure how steady that is.
================================
A view behind the scenes:

So... As some of you may have already heard, I've been busy tinkering again.
But instead of doing something with Arduinos as usual, this time I thought "how hard can coding VSTs be, anyways?".
So I've made my very first VST plugin! I call it the "Arclight".
Nothing too fancy, all it does is take an input note and expand it into a chord.

And that's what you can see in the video: I'm playing my root notes on the QY100, which sends them to my laptop, where they are expanded into chords. Those are passed on to the Blofeld, which does two things:
a) It puts them into its arpeggiator
b) It filters out the lowest note, and uses it for the bass.

The rest is just my normal setup:
Both the Blofeld and the reface CP's audio get passed through the Specular Tempus, and are recorded by my laptop.
================================
More info on the Arclight:

Metaphorically speaking, it illuminates the space around your solo. So that's where the name comes from.

The Arclight creates full voicings for pads and atmos from a single root note. So you can play pads with just one finger, and have a hand free for soloing! Or sequence chords with a simple monophonic sequencer! ...or do something entirely different and feed the output to an arpeggiator. ;-)

If you like, you can try it out for yourself.
I've put it into the download section of my website, the link to that is among the others.
================================
Well then, let's close off the video description with some links:

Wavetable Pad - Waldorf Blofeld, Eventide H3000 Valhalla Vintage Verb

Published on May 6, 2017 100 Things I Do

"Its been a while since I did a clip with the Blofeld. While the Virtual analog side of the synth is great I have many other synths that can look after this work. I keep this synth around the studio mainly for its ability to manipulate and play wavetables. If you also use Audioterm the pallet available its limitless.

Here is an example of making a wavetable pad and using some plugin's and outboard gear to create a small world of wavetable sound. One of the challenges with any pad sound is to stop it becoming stale, movement in the sound is always key. This is where the Blofeld excels.

If you want to know more about the Blofeld please check out Mark Pigott's excellent channel. He has really got out every penny of value to be had on this synth and has some excellent tutorials."

The Midnight Sun - An Ambient Jam Session (Blofeld, Specular Tempus, Launchpad Pro)

Lanthan O'Ide

"It's been a while since I last recorded something with my Launchpad, hasn't it?
Well, here's a new ambient track. Enjoy! ^^
================================
For those playing along at home:
The tempo is at 65 BPM, and the key is C major.

As the LP's note layout is the same for all keys I didn't have a reason to pick a fancy one.
So I just went for one that's easy to jam along to. ;-)
================================
For those interested in the setup:

Here's a flowchart:
(Expression Pedal) ⇒ DIY MIDI Controller ⇒ Launchpad ⇒ (PC) ⇒ Blofeld ⇒ Specular Tempus
(Devices in parenthesis are off-screen)

Firstoff, that little siver box with the amber lights turns the input from an expression pedal into MIDI pitchbend commands. Its output gets routed to the Lanuchpad.

Now, I've got a custom firmware running on the Launchpad Pro.
It's called Subsequencely and allows me to use the LP as a standalone MIDI controller.

Thanks to some software magic, the notes I play are triggering two different patches on the Blofeld: The higher notes play those little bells, and the lower ones are expanded into full chords for the pads.

To turn single notes into full chords I'm actually using a homebrew VST plugin, nicknamed "Arclight". You can grab that from my website if you'd like to try that out for yourself. ;-)

Ok, but back to the hardware setup.
The Blofeld is running in multi-mode, so it's playing both the melody and the pads.
Then the Specular Tempus slaps a whole lot of reverb on it, and the result get's recorded.
And that's it!"

Back To The Unknown - A Berlin School Experiment (Blofeld, Specular Tempus)

Lanthan O'Ide

"A track written by a student of mine: My computer!
Yes, I've written an experimental program that let's my pc compose it's own sequences and chord progressions, and even improvise a bit. The result is a Berlin School track, and I'm just tweaking knobs because I felt like doing so.
Anyways, I hope you enjoy this little experiment! ^^
================================
If you'd like to jam along:
The key is C# minor, and the BPM should be 110.
================================
About the background of this project:

You may be wondering, what's the point of teaching a machine to make music?
Is this supposed to replace human musicians?

No. Here's my point:

I've grown tired of people telling me — and themselves — that they'd love to make music, but are "just not creative enough".
Because a) it's wrong, and b) by telling themselves that they can't do it, they deny themselves the joys of creating music.
But how do I prove it's wrong?

Well, take a computer. It may be very smart, but it's objectively as creative as a potato.
So if I can teach a computer to write it's own music... Doesn't that prove that there's no such thing as "not being creative enough to make music"?
You're welcome. Now stop not believing in yourself, folks!
================================
How everything is wired:
BeatStep Pro ⇒ (And then a miracle occurs) ⇒ Blofeld ⇒ Specular Tempus

The BSP does not actually do much, I'm just using its toggle buttons to start / stop sequences.
The Blofeld plays both the sequence and the pads, it's running in multitimbral mode.
All the audio is routed through the Specular Tempus for some reverb.
================================
How the computer came up with this:

At first, a sequence is generated at random, with the following rules:
1. The sequence is 8 steps long.
2. Every step is set at random either to an C#4, F#4, G#4, B4 or C#5.
3. A step must not be set to the same note as the previous or next step.

Then the sequence is played two times.
Afterwards, one of the 8 steps may be chosen at random and its note be changed.
Again, rule 2 and 3 have to be followed.
Then the sequence is again played two times, is changed again, and so on.

But where does the chord progression come from?
Well, it's the same algorithm, but slightly different:
1. The sequence is 4 steps long.
2. The notes are not eighth notes as before, but last for 4 bars.

Then, these notes are given to my DIY chordizer, the 'Arclight', which uses them as root notes for full chords. And in the end, everything is sent to the Blofeld.
================================
A goodie for those reading the description:

Maybe you think, 'wait a minute, Lanthan, you Matt Lowne imitating madman, didn't you do this before?'.
Very perceptive, dear viewer! :)
Yes, in the very first days of this channel I've indeed taught a microcontroller to do this.
But this time, I've written that code into a VST plugin, so it fits nicely in my DAW, is tempo-synced, and I can implement all sorts of parameters without having to solder!
Oh, and I can share it with others over the internet.

So yeah. You can get this experimental 'Unknown' sequencer on my website.
In case you'd like to try it for yourself! ^^

Waldorf microQ, Q and Blofeld Reformation Soundset

Novaline Music

This one was spotted and sent in via Soviet Space Child.

"Reformation Soundset is a brand new wavetable based soundset with 100 patches that will blow your mind.
Novaline has experimented a lot with all the routing possibilities to reform the different waveforms and wavetables to make them sound interesting.

This soundset will be useful for any genre you¥re working with. By hearing the demo, you'll hear exactly why!

This soundset contains all from Leads, Keys, Plucks, Pads, Atmo, Strings and very fat Bass sounds.

All internal effects such as Distortion, Bitcrush, Delay, Chorus and Phaser are being used but not reverb.

Only External Effect being is Reverb with the plugin, Native Instruments Raum, with some Predelay to give some of the sounds some ambience to get the picture how it sound like in your productions or use.

In the demo you will hear some beats Novaline made to demonstrate how it sound like in a production with sidechain.

Reformation soundset is for the MICRO Q model, but works with Waldorf Q, Q+ and Blofeld models as I imported the microQ bank to qXr Editor and bloX Editor to convert the bank. Keep in mind that they will sound slightly different on those models.

u-he Repro-5 musical synth demo

Published on Nov 2, 2018 once upon a synth

"Demo of the U-He Repro 5 softsynth plugin. These are some of my favourite presets (all stock). The Repro-5 is a clone of the SCI Prophet 5 and it sounds fantastic in my opinion. No external effects are used, so if you hear a reverb it's from the plugin itself. The Blofeld is only used as a MIDI controller, all the sounds are from the Repro-5 running on my computer.

Sorry I don't have the names of the presets. I tried to do a screen recording by half-way through it got too CPU intensive running alongside the Repro-5 so I had to shut it off cause it was affecting the sound. I'm going to try and find a better way to do this next time. But they're all stock presets so they shouldn't be too hard to find if you browse through them. I was browsing presets in the order in which they appear in the library."
