Dreadbox Typhon Meets Elektron Digitone

"I borrowed a friends Elektron Digitone for a week and experimented with connecting the Typhon to it directly.
The Digitone has 4 midi tracks besides it's 4 internal FM engine based tracks, i wrote a simple midi pattern to trigger the Typhon.

They make a good pairing i think."

Dreadbox Typhon - is the screen and slider interface a pain to use?


"I saw quite a lot of concerns about the screen and slider interface that the Typhon uses, so, as there is not a lot of these synths out in the wild at the moment i thought I'd try to make a video showing it being tweaked by a rather average user - me!

I think it's pretty simple to use, and is mostly one page that you scroll left and right through, though sometimes you have a second page, but that's not on many functions.

Anyway, hope this video is helpful! : )"

Each preset has a sequence. You may use it as it is, change it, or send notes from DAW or any other external sequencer.

But I strongly recommend using the internal sequencer, as I thoroughly set modulations that are synced to the playback. These modulations make the presets and the sequences sound really expressive, dynamic, evolving without touching any parameters.

However, if you tweak Modwheel, Pitchbend (that are set in every preset), and front panel parameters, you will raise a timbre's expression to the new level.

"I'm passing my synths through the brand new Arturia effects, that are now included in FX Collection 2. 22 plugins total. As all the effects emulate classics they add that vintage analog coloration in a really nice way. That's why it was interesting to pass hardware synths through these effects.

Moog DFAM - Bus FORCE (check out how it makes the sound bigger).
Dreadbox Typhon - Pre 1973 and Comp DIODE-609.
Arturia Microfreak - Filter M12, Delay TAPE-201 (with the new preamp type), Rev SPRING-636, Flanger BL-20.
