Muffwiggler 2/22/2010 STG Preparations

YouTube via donaldjasoncrunk

"a short film documenting our preparations for the February Muffwiggler gathering put on by Xart studios & trash_audio. song is "Chillicothe thug lyfe" - beats & chorus by STG, hot flows by me. you can see us making schwag & giveaway stuff, visual aids, world's second shittiest eurorack cabinet and the STG logo banners that didn't quite turn out how i wanted them to."
See this post for some video of the events.

Some fun trivia: For those wondering what Muff Wiggler is, Muff's Forum has become THE forum for boutique modular gear. Users and manufacturers are active on the forum and many manufactures have their own sub-forums. It is run by Mike McGrath and originally started as a blog back on November 23rd of 2006. The first time I announced Muff Wiggler was back on December 4th, 2006 in this post. Prior to that I put up two posts featuring Mike, one on July 10th, 2006 and one on July 18th, 2006. Note in the modular world there are boutique manufacturers that sell pre-assembled modules, some that sell both modules and kits, and then those that design modules and provide schematics and instructions for the DIY crowd. I think the crown for the longest/oldest running company would be PAiA, who just started selling module kits again. Note Muff's forum has a DIY section, however the bulk of DIY seems to be on the electro-music.com forums along with probably the biggest Clavia Nord Modular forum.

17 in our hearts

"at long last, the Lunchbox system joins with the mighty white 9u for a digital and analog duet. high density sounds, this one gets loud. all sounds sequenced from Little MIDI sequencer on the ipad - also involved are monotribe, vocals, and a few guitar pedals as usual. i quite like this one - this is the third take, and by this point i was pretty amped and pushing the yamaha mixer very hard - hence the breakup.

also, i'm having a son sometime this upcoming week! someday there will be a little crunk in my videos..."

"lunchbox + monotribe + iphone for sequencing. on this one i run the monotribe into my trusty Digitech RDS 7.6, clock it with the main sequence, and turn up the wet out for chewey bitcrushed monotribe.

the DPO FM tips thread on muffwiggler had some interesting patch tips for FM in it that provided a great starting point for this patch - thanks cartoon bomb!"

Love the aesthetics of the white cables. It almost sounds like metallic guitar tweaks throughout.

all we see, we are

YouTube Uploaded by donaldjasoncrunk on Dec 7, 2011

"shorter live composition for modular synth and assorted looped sounds. in this video the microphone is fed into the Digitech RDS 7.6, which is clocked by a Flame Clockwork. the STG Soundlabs Trigger Sequencer and Graphic Sequencer help to create the patterns, and the primary bassline is played by midi controller (korg ms2000) off camera."

"of special note: the new STG Soundlabs .SHN provides modulation to the PWM input of the primary oscillator, in this case Tip Top Z3000mkII . the secondary oscillator is the Cyclonix Cyclebox. both oscillators are being mixed with an STG .MIX, filtered by the Harvestman Polyvoks and amplitude controlled via STG .VCA's."

601.4 [eurorack volca touchOSC]

Published on Feb 20, 2015 donaldjasoncrunk

"in this patch, a cycling/modulated function acts as master clock for the STG Soundlabs .DIV, this clocks the WMD SSM as well as feeds the SSM inputs. Outputs go to "Play" on the Phonogene, the Korgs' sync inputs, and the fall of the function for clock stutters, and into the SSM's own input. the DAC output of the SSM modulates the pitch of the Phonogene. The XY pad control other CV inputs on the Phonogene, the Monotribe and Volca Keys are mixed before entering the preamp salvation of the Phonogene

a new configuration for my Erthenvar / Pulp Logic lunchbox synth centered around the WMD Sequential Switch Matrix and Make Noise Phonogene. both are controlled by some custom layouts i made in touchOSC, and MIDI is being transmitted via the MIDI Implant tile.

this rig is really intented to function alongside the Korg Volcas and other similar instruments, with the SSM being very useful for routing clocks and audio between the boxes."

Archangel prototype #2 [HEFTY FINE]

YouTube via donaldjasoncrunk. via Mr. Array: "new Archangel sequencer/controller video by way of STG Soundlabs" Update/Clarification via donaldcrunk in the comments: "matrix: this is _not_ an STG soundlabs product, it is a Detachment 3 engineering product. we're just testing it and seeing what we can break, so the end user doesnt have to" I'll keep the label for the association, but note this is Detachment 3 Engineering. I also created a new label for Detachment.

video description:
"a little noise riot with the Archangel prototype and a micromoog (aka maternitymoog). the touchplate keyboard is more than suitable for this kind of sonic terror, and combined with the integrated sequencer it will tear off your ears and eat them on a triscuit. save your coins, you're going to want one. watch for this product soon from Detachment 3 Engineering, or go fuck yourself. your choice."

to the sun

Published on Apr 21, 2013 donaldjasoncrunk·25 videos

"about time for a lunchbox Bongo track. i was mesmerized by this patch during my initial explorations of this system - a cycling function clocks the monotribe and hits the 'hang' input of a second cycling function. this function hits the strike inputs of both channels of the Optomix, via its EOR and EOC outputs. the CV from one of the FSRs is routed to the "both" input of the cycling function, which allows for little bongo fills. the second FSR modulates the "fall" input of the cycling bongo function, allowing for little pauses. other sounds provided by vocals and monotribe.

my basement flooded from some recent storms, the carpet in my studio is still wet. this is playing havoc with the grounding in my setup, so this video was somewhat painful (literally) to make. dehumidifer incoming"

four loops [korg monotribe + volca keys]

Published on May 30, 2014 donaldjasoncrunk·37 videos

"I purchased a Korg Volca Keys this weekend at the excellent Nerd Audio analog shop in Chicago. really having a blast with this and the monotribe, so easy to cook up some 90s alt rock loops.

Korg, if you're reading - how about a little volca mixer/sampler to connect together all your other fun boxes?

Volca Keys is playing through the Monotribe filter. no effects except some mild compression inside the box. note the stuttering sync - i think i've got some issues with clocking, but i also sort of enjoy the glitches."

runaway

Published on Apr 13, 2013 donaldjasoncrunk·23 videos

"live track for the Eurorack Lunchbox Easel, monotribe, vocals and guitar pedals - all atop a crisp bed of xylophone loops. noisy, but this time with a beat. the Lunchbox is sequenced by the Littlemidi sequencer running on iphone, and the DD5 + akai headrush are hooked up via aux send from the mixer. this is my current live rig, just waiting on the MS20 mini to complete it! very portable, a ton of sound from this combo and not enough gear to allow things to spiral out of control. this is of real concern to me, as i tend to run everything on the verge of a feedback loop. balance must be maintained.

no longer will i be hiding my rampant interest in cold war era soviet technology, FYI

the direction i've been moving with the Lunchbox Easel is surprising to me - given the lineage, i'd expect to be working more 'experimentally' with it - but i love these simple melodic sequences coming from the DPO + optomix combo! sounds like no synth i've ever had, so simple but rich in timbre ."

the next video will be some performances with the Lunchbox easel - the sounds you hear in the background of this narrative come from 2 20 minute sets located on my soundcloud, pure lunchbox performances. https://soundcloud.com/donaldcrunk
