West Coast Woggle

Published on Jan 22, 2017 Autotross

"A self modulating patch based around the Corsynth Dual Looping Envelope. The output of each envelope affects the rise/fall of the other.

Envelope 1 controls the Synthcube SEM filter and the VCA, while envelope 2 controls the timbre of the Braids module.

The combined output of Envelopes 1 + 2 along with a randomized LFO modulates the delay time of the Strymon El Capistan pedal.

Random sample and hold CV is applied to the Braids module affecting the pitch and harmonic ratio.

And spring reverb from the TC Hall of Fame pedal.

No wogglebug required!"

Cave Birds (Modular Synth Soundscape)

Published on Oct 21, 2016 Autotross

"This patch started with my wife and I creating some bird calls as a learning exercise.

The Q960 sequencer is triggered with a key press and does a little 3-step chirp - some random pitch sample and hold is also added in. More randomness is added to the Corsynth Dual Loopable Envelope's attack & decay, which controls the Synthcube SEM filter.

We then added some white noise wind filtered by the Corsynth Lowpass Filter, which is swept randomly by the same sample and hold (with a bit of slew).

Finally, rainy drip-drops come straight out of the Mutable Instruments Braids (MU version by FSFX) via the Particle algorithm.

And that's it, Cave Birds. Enjoy!"

Ghost of Jordan Levitt (MU modular synth jam)

Published on Oct 1, 2016 Autotross

"Giving the new Synthcube/Moogah SEM filter a workout - it really starts to shine at the 3 minute mark.

Both parts sequenced by the Q960. Drums from Roland TR-8.

Strymon El Capistan and TC Hall of Fame used for delay and reverb."

Star Trek Voyager Theme - Juno 60 and Modular Synth

Published on Sep 1, 2016 Autotross

"One of my all time favorite themes played on a Roland Juno 60 and 5U/MU Dotcom modular synthesizer.

The 3 rows of the Q960 sequencer are used for the accompaniment, which I recorded into my looper for easy start/stop with the footswitch."

Sync Sweep Ratcheting

Published on Oct 3, 2015 Autotross

"A sequence using 2 different speeds of ratcheting controlled by switches and clocked from the Analog Craftsman RCD/SCM.

The main sound is an oscillator sync-sweep type of patch, with a bit of audio-rate grit on the filter.

Row 1 of the Q960 controls the main sequence. Row 2 adds the higher accent rhythm. And row 3 controls the amount of sync-sweep and grit."

Muse - Madness (Dotcom Modular & Nord Lead)

Published on Sep 19, 2015 Autotross

"First real jam on my Synthesizers.com format modular. I'm using a square wave to switch between slow/fast rhythms and envelopes. The Q960 takes care of the bassline which I'm switching manually between sections (all out of switches!)"

Juno 60 - Live Synthwave

Published on Sep 8, 2014 Autotross

"A live 80s style jam featuring Roland Juno 60 on arpeggio, Korg Electibe on drums and Nord Electro 4 posing as a DX7.

After a lot of trial and error trying to clock my Juno 60's arp with my Korg EMX, I've finally discovered the perfect settings to avoid missed steps or double triggers. And here it is:

1. Pick a drum slot, choose Bass Drum 028.
2. Route its output to the alternate (3/4) jacks.
3. Pitch it all the way up.
4. Turn its volume all the way up.
5. Pan it to the left (and plug in your clock cable into jack 3)
6. Set envelope to slant mode and turn knob fully to the left.
7. Enter rhythm and play!"

"My first endeavor with the OP-1, I haven't had this much fun making music in years! I started out making an 8-bit drum kit, and ended up with this here tune.

Oh yeah, and thanks to Cuckoo for the the synth patches and general inspiration."

Pittsburgh Midi2 Duophonic/Paraphonic Tutorial

Published on Feb 4, 2014 Autotross·8 videos

"This tutorial shows how to use the Pittsburgh Midi2 module in both duophonic as well as paraphonic modes.

I set up 2 patches - one with seperate Oscillators, Filters, Envelopes and Amps (duophonic), and one where everything is shared except the Oscillators (paraphonic) - in order to demonstrate the sounds you can get using both methods."

Modular Bacon 03: Blizzard

Published on Jan 5, 2014 Autotross·8 videos

"Recorded live during today's blizzard, burrrrr!

Patch Notes:
Wind from Doepfer A-118 Noise generator fed through Intellijel uVCF with cutoff modulated by the 118's random volt output. Truck idling and driving away created with MakeNoise DPO's final output jostled about by Function on repeat. Sirens made the same way using the saw output and slower Function modulation.

Stay warm!"

Modular Bacon 02: Derezzed Circuit

Published on Dec 8, 2013 Autotross·7 videos

"Patch Notes:
Sequenced by MakeNoise Rene, which sends a gate every 4 steps to create ghost notes whose prominence is controlled by the envelope's release. Saw and Final output taken from DPO and modulated by a Doepfer Sample and Hold. Kick drum made with Intellijel uVCF. MMG for the filter, Pamela's Workout for clocking, Memory Boy for delay, and Daft Punk for subconcious inspiration."

Published on Nov 1, 2013 Autotross·5 videos

"Patch Notes:
Intellijel uVCF in self oscillation modulated by random hits on the Dixie LFO for water drops. MakeNoise MMG with a slightly out of sync Function for the rising tone. Simple 4-note melody from DPO sequenced by Rene. Delay courtesy of Memory Boy."
