Wave (Oberheim TEO-5 + Dirtywave M8 Tracker)
video upload by The Way Up
"This super lush track means many things to me, but one thing it definitely isn't not is a soundtrack to an imaginary scene at the end of an 80s movie about a grizzled, tired cop (Tom), who after years chasing his nemesis, the charming criminal, Dan. After fate brings them together as unwitting partners and against all odds, friends, they manage to defeat a cartel who would threaten the entire city. After narrowly prevailing, our heroes end on a beach. As they breath sighs of relief and feel the warm sun on their skin, a realization dawns on them—their natural partnership is at an end. Dan smiles at Tom, and though just 48 hours earlier, Tom would have gladly cuffed him, and they exchange a knowing look of respect and slowly walk away, knowing they'll never see each other again.
Most of the synth parts on this were the TEO-5, with a few parts from the M8's internal engines, plus some nice classic drum machine samples."

1010music Bento: Demo run-through
video upload by Dan Pearson
"This is a run-through of the demo track I put together for the 1010music Bento promo video.
It's a standalone music production system with One-shot & Loop banks, Multi-sample, Slicer and Granular instruments.
It also features a massive touch screen, 16 velocity sensive performance pads, comprehensive onboard effects and bluebox style mixing."

"1010 Music's Bento is a streamlined, standalone sampling powerhouse designed for sketching beats in a café, performing a set from your lap, or orchestrating a full synth rig in your studio. Bento's elegant 7" touchscreen and sixteen pressure and velocity-sensitive pads invite tactile experimentation, while its eight endlessly reconfigurable tracks adapt to your needs: from sliced loops and sample banks to granular textures, multisamples, and even external MIDI control. Each pad has per-voice control for level, pitch, pan, modulation, and FX sends, making detailed shaping a breeze without breaking flow. It's not just that you can do everything inside Bento—it's that you'll want to.
Scene-based sequencing sits at the heart of Bento's composition engine, offering multiple modes for evolving patterns, real-time clip launching, and probability-driven generative textures. Whether you're building a layered performance or locking in precise micro-edits, Bento's sequencing feels responsive, smart, and inspiring. Modulation options run deep—LFOs, envelopes, and step sequencers are all onboard and assignable. Per-track routing lets you use reverb, delay, overdrive, phaser, and more with creative intention, whether you're sweetening a vocal chop or melting your entire mix.
On the connectivity side, Bento is exceptionally generous. Three stereo inputs and outputs, USB host/device support, dual MIDI I/O (TRS A & B), and a stereo headphone output make this a capable centerpiece in any setup. It samples effortlessly, resamples creatively, and even streams long WAV files directly from a microSD card. Tethered or untethered, Bento's equally at home thanks to its internal battery and road-ready build. For anyone tired of the laptop grind or just seeking a more focused music-making environment, Bento from 1010 Music is a compact revelation.

Wendy Carlos: Electronic Music's Transformative Pioneer
video upload by Resident Advisor
"'The word "pioneer' gets thrown around too liberally these days. But in the case of Wendy Carlos, the glove fits. The face of electronic music would look immeasurably different in 2025 without the American trans composer's groundbreaking achievements. Before she came along, electronic music was barely considered music at all—just "funny sounds," as Bob Moog once said.
That all changed in 1968. Produced in collaboration with Rachel Elkind, Carlos's debut album, Switched-On Bach wielded machines to produce sounds that could compete with the symphonic pop and rock of the era. The landmark LP won multiple GRAMMYs, played a key role in popularising the use of synths and became only the second classical music record to sell a million copies.
In our latest video essay, written by Sasha Geffen, we trace Carlos's story from her early experiments with Moog through to her impact on key electronic acts of the past 50 years, including Brian Eno, DJ Sprinkles and Octo Octa.

Rebranding a Eurorack Modular Synthesizer Company // THE NEW DPW!!
video upload by DivKid
"Here's something a little different which is sharing in the process of rebranding a Eurorack Modular Synthesizer company. In this case ... DPW Design from Sweden. Dan (DPW) has become a good friend and colleague over the years and I've really wanted a visual identity that stands out as strong as the engineering and electronics design, especially in support of new things coming for DPW in the future. Bringing in Matthew Shaw to the process has been great and led to the rebranding we have here."

NAMM 2025: Delving into Stylophone's Dual Filter Module
video upload by sonicstate
"At the NAMM 2025 show, we caught up with Dan from Stylophone, who presented their latest offering, the *Dual Filter Module*. This unit evolved from the DS2 and features a new line, the CPM range, aimed at modular synth enthusiasts. The dual filter module includes two distinct filters - the gritty Gen R8 and the smoother 2045 filter, inspired by classic French house sounds. Dan explained that this module is designed to extend your sound capabilities significantly, with a dual envelope and filters that can operate in series or parallel.
A standout feature of the module is its capability for self-resonance at various cutoff points, providing diverse sonic textures. In addition, the module includes a sample and hold feature with rate and slew that allows modulation freedom. Stylophone aims for a product launch by September, with the module designed to be part of a user-friendly, compact modular range ideal for both beginners and advanced modular synth enthusiasts."

Additional Tone Tweakers Listings
"Fully serviced and working great. The Synergy II+ is a digital additive/FM synthesizer that sounds like no other. Somewhat similar to the extremely popular Yamaha DX7, it's tone is mellower and warmer. A popular website states 700-800 were made and estimates less than 100 are in operation today. We don't know how they came up with this estimation, but this one's working great, as we just fully serviced it. Famous users include Jay Wires, Wendy Carlos, BT (crumar gds), Junkie XL and Steely Dan. Carlos used it on the Tron soundtrack and other recordings.
Previously, one needed an old Kaypro computer with special software to edit sounds, but someone recently developed an editor that can be run on a modern computer."

Playlist:
1. Bristronica 24: MyVolts The Silent Alchemist Nears Shipping
We caught up with Caroline who gave us the latest update to the *Silent Alchemist*, a versatile power hub designed for musicians. Featuring five isolated USB-C outputs and a high-wattage sixth output capable of delivering 100 watts, the device can power a Mac with the remaining outputs providing 20 watts each. Its independent circuits ensure noise-free operation, catering to a variety of devices including the Dreadbox module and Sysmo slope generator.2. Bristronica 24: Circuit Happy ML2M Clock Sync module updates
The Silent Alchemist uses innovative step-up power tips to convert USB-C input to the correct voltage for various devices. There's also new feature: an uninterruptible power supply allowing seamless transition between wall and power bank sources. Also introduced were updated cables, such as silver candy cords and floating ring TRS to TS cables, expanding connection flexibility. The Silent Alchemist is expected to be available in December with a competitive pricing strategy.
More Info:
https://myvolts.com/
At Bristronica 2024, we caught up with the creator of the *ML2M*, who introduced us to the latest version. The ML2M is a compact Eurorack module with Wi-Fi capabilities, allowing seamless synchronization with Ableton Live, Bitwig Studio, and iOS music apps using Ableton Link without the need for cables. It either connects to an existing network or creates its own, ensuring robust sync even in environments with unreliable Wi-Fi. The module, which retains its 2HP size, now features MIDI integration through TRS jacks. Users can access a web interface to configure each output for different clock divisions and reset triggers, making setup straightforward and flexible.3. Bristronica 24: Archaea Exchange Patching Module
Alongside the ML2M, there's also the Missing Link Junior. This desktop version offers the same functionality but in a box format, complete with MIDI and CV clock outputs. Both products are now accessible, with a starting price of $250.
At Machina Bristronica 2024, we caught up with Arran from @archaea_modular_synthesis who presented the *Exchange Module*. This programmable patcher, a year in the making, evolved from its early prototype stage to a fully functional module. Arran explained how the Exchange can route synth voices via a beam controller and three exchange modules installed within the skiff, allowing for versatile patching. Operating like a matrix patchbay, it enables users to select inputs and outputs with the push of a button, create presets, and chain multiple modules for synchronized patching.
Communication between the modules occurs over the Eurorack power bus as well as over MIDI via the USB-C connection. The Exchange maintains analog integrity, ensuring there’s no conversion latency. The forthcoming release expected in late November 2024, includes a USB-driven editor for enhanced control capabilities.

The Rarest Guitar Effect Ever: EMS Synthi Hi-Fli
video upload by foleytronics fx repair
"Here we have one of 350 EMS Synthi Hi-Fli multi-effects boxes; this one showed up with a very loud buzz and, after figuring that out, no audible suboctave. It is now working perfectly and oh so much fun to play with, as you can tell by the look on Dan's face in this video and thumbnail.
We also made use of Brandt's TC Electronic 2290 Dynamic Digital Delay, which are amazing for adding depth and width to any signal."

HAINBACH & AudioThing Used the Moon as an Echo (And Made It Into a Free Plugin)
video upload by HAINBACH
00:00 Introduction
00:42 The Doppler Effect
03:30 The Astronauts
04:45 History and Pauline Oliveros
07:02 The Radio Telescope
09:43 Moon Bouncing
14:33 Making The Plugin
"I discovered the technique of 'Moon Bouncing', using the moon as an echo, when I was researching composer Pauline Oliveros. Her experiences with 'Echoes from the moon' sounded fascinating. Like with all experimental music techniques of old I wanted to try the process for myself. This started a two year long journey.
With the support of Martine-Nicole Rojina (who also helped out on camera on location) I got in contact with the radio telescope in Dwingeloo, a huge dish designed for space exploration. They helped me send signals to the moon: a sopranist (Johanna Vargas), a double bassist (Paul Cannon) as well as sounds from my patrons Sventothem, Michael Féaux, Andrew Stone, harper2k, Filip Ferngren, Dave Seidel, Gary Walker, Michael Peters, the void inclusive, Brendan Ford, David Williams, Joey Pop, Jeremiah Turner, Richy486, Joshua Philgarlic, Tim Moore, Grant Basma Horsnell, Arson Bright, Dan Kibke, Antonio T, Chris Sherman, Sergey, Charlie, Bartek Trame and Dixit.
This fascinating experience yielded an extensive set of samples that @audiothing and me analyzed and used to create the free plugin 'Moon Echo'. This way you can experience some of the magic of moon bouncing yourself. Download here (its free): https://www.audiothing.net/effects/mo...
Music, Soundpack and thanks:
https://www.patreon.com/hainbach"
"In our seventh collaboration with Berlin-based musician Hainbach we listen to the stars: Moon Echo is a free to download delay based on a communications technique that uses our closest cosmic neighbor, the moon, as a reflector for radio waves. This results in some rather crunchy and lively echoes, modulated by the movement of Earth and moon. The moon’s surface is an imperfect mirror and creates artifacts, unlike any other echo technique. Moon Echo is both a musical lo-fi effect and a playful tool for teaching about space.
Moon Echo is available for MAC, PC, and LINUX (VST, VST3, AU, AAX, CLAP, 64-bit only), and also as AUv3 and Standalone on the App Store."

"This is certainly a milestone release for the DiN label as it celebrates its 25th anniversary. Needless to say, this is quite an achievement for a niche, independent label that has relentlessly ploughed its own path for quarter of a century. Its catalogue and release schedule has been carefully curated over all these years by label boss Ian Boddy, who launched the imprint way back in the spring of 1999. It is perhaps a reflection of his own musical identity which, whilst grounded in the Berlin School of the 1970s, has continued to evolve and grow to cover ever widening areas of electronic music, where sub-genres can be mixed and matched at will.
There have been plenty of compilation albums released on the DiN label in the past, most notably the iNDEX sampler albums, of which there have been eight to date. These cover tracks from existing albums and are certainly a great showcase for the label. However, this double album is different, in that Boddy invited the majority of the musicians who have previously been released on the main DiN catalogue to compose new pieces. Spread across two discs, this amounts to 142 minutes of sublime, varied and thoroughly original music. Ranging from beautifully ambient to dark brooding soundscapes, via cinematic electronica through to old school Berlin School sequencer workouts, “25 Years of DiN” is a wonderful distillation of the DiN label.
Presented in a stunning six panel fold out Digipak double CD package with 8-page booklet featuring an essay by Neil Mason (Moonbuilding), this release is a must-have for collectors of the DiN labels output.
