A Tiny Techno Modular using Disting NT: Suggested Systems 9

video upload by mylarmelodies

"The good folks behind Expert Sleepers hired me to make a video showing the Disting NT doing something interesting - but what that was, was up to me. I figured the NT should be able to power an entire small live system, replacing a boatload of modules in one. And I thought about how James Holden blends computers & analogue filters in his work. And so I built a live system that does just that. Here's it working, how it works, the challenges I had, and the solutions. NOTE: YOU CAN DOWNLOAD THIS DISTING NT PATCH BELOW FOR FREE"

angine de poitrine - sarniezz (modular synth cover)

video upload by Jonathan MacKenzie

"angine de machine?

all sequenced from logic, lots and lots of pitch bend automation... midi cv mostly coming from expert sleepers fh-2, including one converter that's just velocity information for the hihats and one that's just a monophonic gate with no pitch (for the dfam). the configurability of the fh-2 is astounding

drums:
squid salmple with mostly linn samples, swapped in a 909 ride and 808 cowbell. gates from beatstep pro with aforementioned hihat velocity from the fh-2

bass:
mb2s all by itself (including midi conversion)

riff that mostly follows bass:
plaits (waveshaper algo) through tiptop forbidden planet though obne screen violence (disabled at first)

minor 2nd thing:
qu-bit surface in one of the e piano modes

riff 1:
qu-bit chord v2, a fair bit of malarky going on to get the right flavour of duophony. everything's kinda duplicated so at first it's just the first two oscillators then it gets doubled

riff 2 (first new riff in 4/4):
surface again, i switch it to monophonic during the stabs

riff 3:
qu-bit aurora running a dumb little oscillator firmware i wrote a few weeks ago (my first and so far only foray into writing dsp). ran it through after later stairs (stereo filter) with different lfos modulating left and right to move it around a bit. midi from beastep pro (this was the last voice i added and had used up all the outputs on the fh-2 and expander. still had the other sequencer on the bsp so i guess i could've added one more voice)

klek de machine:
dfam

--

the arrangement is slightly shorter, where everything's live rather than looped i can only add layers as long as i can add voices so i focused on what seemed like the more important ones. and while i spent a long time trying to figure out all the parts i'm still not quite sure what the bass (and guitar part that mostly doubles the bass) in the last section is doing. pretty sure i'm pretty close though.

Luma-mu: bringing the legendary Linn LM-1 to Eurorack

video upload by CatSynth TV

"We are proud to preset Luma-mu, a new Eurorack drum module from our friends at Deftaudio that brings the technology and sound of the legendary Linn LM-1 drum computer to the word of modular synthesis. It implements a single voice of their Luma-1 drum machine (a full recreation of the LM-1) with additional CV controls for the samples, playback modes, pitch, dynamics, and more. It comes with an EEPROM of the original LM-1 sounds that can be easily swapped out for other sounds on EEPROM or a special USB EEPROM emulator (which will be covered in another video).

➤ What is the Shroud of Turing?
The Shroud of Turing is a 1U Eurorack module built on the Nocturne Alchemy Platform. It runs a 16-bit shift register inspired by the Music Thing Modular Turing Machine, with the addition of a built-in scale quantizer you can program directly from the button matrix keyboard. The result is a module that can generate evolving random sequences, lock them into repeating patterns, and output perfectly in-tune musical voltages.

➤ Key Features:
16-bit Turing Machine shift register
Probability knob: 7 o'clock = Double (2x loop), 12 o'clock = Full Random, 5 o'clock = Locked loop
Sequence lengths: 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 12, or 16 steps
Voltage ranges: 1–4 octaves (0–4V)

FreqGen - Orbital Drift (Live Modular Performance)

video upload by celldweller

"I haven't done this in a while. No softsynths. No presets. Just raw voltage, evolving sequences, and semi-controlled chaos, captured in real time. Why would I do this? Because I can.

Available on all DSPs Wed, February 4th.
A Celldweller Production.

Patch Notes

I’ve had Intellijel’s Metropolis for a long time and have used it on many songs. A family member bought me Metropolix as a gift and it was time for me to wrap my head around all the upgrades and new features, so that was the impetus for this track and the foundation it was built on.

Intellijel Metropolix to Livewire AFG. Modulating pulse width and harmonic animation with Ornament & Crime. That’s run through one of my fav filters of all time, the Cwejman MMF-2 modulated by the Tip Top Z4000 EG for a bit of snap but mostly as seen in the vid, manual modulation of the cutoff. Hands are handy.

Drums are sequenced by the Erica Synths Drum Sequencer with kick, hats and percussion all in random mode. The Drum Sequencer is controlling the VPME QD & QEX which I loaded up with my own selection of drum samples.

I used Make Noise Pressure Points/Brains for the main played lead, controlling pitch of the XAOC Devices Odessa. Gates fired from PP/Brains trigger another Z4000 EG which mults through a Synthrotek mult to a Pittsburgh Modular VCA and the Roland 521 VCF (The thing I keep looking up at, hoping it would wave or say hi. It never did, but it did an amazing job at filtering the Odessa.)

The little arp I added at the last minute. It lives on another rack which contains all my 5U stuff. Sadly it’s not in the video bc I didn’t know I was going to utilize it when I set up the cameras. Next time. The arp uses all Synthesizers.Com modules, sequenced by the Q119 and filtered by the Q150 Transistor Ladder filter.

Delays and reverbs from multiple Tip Top Z-DSPs. Some EQ & compression and maybe a delay in Cubase which mainly acted as my tape machine to record the performance. As I normally do when I patch, it’s all synced to Cubase clock using Expert Sleepers modules & Silent Way software.

If you read even one sentence from these patch notes, you get a lollipop and if you made it to the end you’re a true legend and clearly as nerdy as I am. 🙌"

MATRIX VCF & Voltage Control - Creating presets with fixed voltages

video upload by AJH Synth Official

"Here I'm using Pressure Points to select different sounds/settings on the Matrix VCF - this filter has full CV control of all functions, including the selection of all 16 different filter types (Mode). Because the Matrix has such a huge range of filter sounds, it is very useful to be able to recall them instantly using a fixed-voltage controller or sequencer.
I'm also feeding it 2 VCOs and noise initially, but later replacing the raw sawtooth waves with the same saw processed by the WAVE SWARM - this is a sawtooth animator, creating 12 additional faux saws from 1 or 2 incoming oscillators to create a fat 'super saw' effect.

Video & Performance by @DreamsOfWires

The AJH SYNTH Eurorack modular range consists of high-end modules, all hand-made in the UK, most of which are based on classic, vintage designs, authentically recreating the circuitry of much sought-after analogue instruments and technologies of the past, whilst greatly expanding them, and bringing them to modern Eurorack levels of convenience, limitless flexibility, and reliability.

disting NT - Breakbeat slicing

video upload by Expert Sleepers

"This video shows the disting NT as a self contained sample slicer with effects.

A combination of simple algorithms is used to randomise the slice selection, but maintaining some degree of the usual progression through the sample - also while forcing the 'one' to the first slice of the sample (go search up 'Bootsy’s Funk Formula').

A Kirbinator and flanger provide additional ear candy."

disting NT - Looper "automatic sustain"

video upload by Expert Sleepers

"This video demonstrates a simple modular technique being applied within a disting NT preset, where the module is being used as a pedalboard multi-effect based around the Looper algorithm.

An envelope tracker follows the input audio, generating an internal CV which is in turn mapped to modulate the 'Overdub fade' parameter of the Looper.

The result is than when there's input from the player, the new material replaces the old loop, but when the player stops, the loop is effectively frozen. Furthermore, the player can control the depth of the fade with the dynamics of their playing.

Any parameter on the disting NT can be mapped in this way."

Where Modulation Connects

FAC Polyflo is an AUv3 plugin for modulating and sequencing MIDI instruments and modular gear via control voltage. It outputs MIDI and analog CV simultaneously, making it well-suited for hybrid setups that combine digital and analog equipment.

The plugin includes two LFO generators offering 10 waveforms, including classic shapes and random spline, with support for cross-modulation and syncing. It also features an envelope follower that tracks audio FX input or an external sidechain. The generated signals, together with the host clock and MIDI input, are fed into six independent FLO(W) processors.

These processors combine, shape, and route inputs using math operations, conditional logic, and comparators. Each FLO includes individual polarity, division, and multiplication controls, providing deep and flexible modulation that balances chaotic creativity with precise timing.

Each FLO processor output is connected to its own output bus, enabling easy integration with hardware via DC-coupled audio interfaces like the Expert Sleepers ES-9. For simpler setups, FLO outputs can be routed to the stereo output. FAC Polyflo can also convert MIDI notes, pitch, and control changes into control voltages, making it a powerful MIDI-to-CV solution.

If you prefer to work exclusively with software, the plugin runs smoothly in software-only environments with full MIDI support, making it equally suited for purely digital workflows.

FAC Polyflo works as both an Audio Unit FX and MIDI FX, featuring a clean, touch-optimized interface with precise control and waveform visualization. It’s available as an AUv3 for iOS (iPad/iPhone), macOS, and Vision Pro, and requires a compatible AUv3 host app to run.

Seventh Summoner & Arp Of Darkness - Swarm Bending

video upload by FlatSix Modular

"Playing around today with the Seventh Summoner and Arp Of Darkness in the small case. I like where this is headed so I thought I’d share.

https://www.flatsixmodular.com

Patch Notes: Clock is handled by Pam’s Pro Workout.

Voice 1 is sequenced by the Seventh Summoner and consists of the supersaw patch on Braids through the 2051 Bit Corrupter patch on the MFX and then into the delay patch on a Noise Engineering Desmodus Versio with the “MultiVersio” firmware flashed to it.

Voice 2 is a saw wave oscillator from the Disting MK4 processed through a Pittsburgh Modular low pass filter, and being sequenced by Sequence X on an Ornament & Crime module with the Phaserville Suite firmware running. The filter is being modulated by the Shredder applet on the Ornament & Crime.

Voice 3 is being arpeggiated by the Arp Of Darkness, and is made up of a swarm & detune patch on the Neutron Sound Dust of Time running through a ping pong delay on another Disting MK4 by Expert Sleepers. I’m hand modulating the swarm to detune the swarmed notes giving it that dissonant contrast and the release of bring things back to unity.

In-Case Drums are being handled by an Erica Synths Pico Drums module running through A low pass filter on another Disting MK4 and into Data Bender by Qu-Bit for glitching duties.

All outputs run through a Kombucha by WGD for delay send duties and then into a Befaco STMIX for mix down to an Intellijel Headphones output in the 1U row.

Additional drums provided by the K.O. II by Teenage Engineering running my own personal samples."
