5. M0SS-416 Demo: Brian Eno's Tambura patch
6. M0SS-309 Demo: Mellow Horns and FX

"The M0SS-201, M0SS-309 and M0SS-416 are 3 new members of the M0SS line of synthesizers from UltraPalace, expanding on the flagship M0SS-101 released in 2025.

This line of instruments packs the power of an advanced synth in to a tiny, rugged enclosure, and offers a unique user interface, designed to be intuitive, hands-on, and fun. Press a button to select a parameter in the synthesis engine, and turn the encoder to modify its value.

Coloured LEDs positioned across the face will pulse and toggle to show the signal flow, indicate settings, and show the current parameters magnitude.

These synths feature USB MIDI Host, as well as 1/8" MIDI, so you can connect any MIDI controller, and map knobs or faders to any parameter using MIDI learn, allowing you to transform your inexpensive MIDI controller into a powerful and fascinating vintage-style synth, or to integrate the synth into your existing MIDI setup.

"The M0SS-201 is a west coast synth, which takes some inspiration from the Buchla Easel. This modern monosynth is packed with features that will inspire experimentation into advanced synthesis. It is capable of an incredibly broad spectrum of sounds, and diving in, you might find yourself wondering if the sounds you are creating have ever been heard before by human ears, and the answer may well be no!"

The Origins of the Krell Ambient Generative Synthesizer Patch // Todd Barton at Buchla & Friends

video upload by DivKid

"Join us at Buchla & Friends with the wonderful person that is TODD BARTON! Inspired by the work of Bebe and Louis Barron on the soundtrack to the 1950s film Forbidden Planet, Todd Barton created the classic Krell patch. A generative, ambient patch for modular synthesizers where random voltages influence (at it's most basic) the time, pitch and shape of your notes. We discuss the origins of Krell, the basics of the patch and how to expand it.

The 2026 Buchla & Friends event is happening January 24th-25th, be there, it'll be ace. Info below."

Do you know Röntgen?

video upload by Oscillator Sink

"This video is about the Tilde Instruments Röntgen, an electronic instrument designed for improvisation and exploration, and the vibe for me here, summed up in a single word is 'Elegance'.

The physical design I’d characterize as clean, bold and purposeful - a small number of hands on controls, perfectly symmetrical, and, yes, none of them are labelled so as not to mess with that aesthetic. That characterization carries into the synth architecture, which pulls off one of my all time favourite tricks of doing a small number of simple things very well, and then letting them interact in interesting ways.

Drawing influence from the likes of Rob Hordijk, the eponymous Serge Tcherepnin and Peter Blasser of Ciat Lombarde, Röntgen lies comfortably in the experimental or esoteric side of synthesizers, but what struck me as I was using it was how many different personalities it had from a music making perspective - hopefully I can showcase some of them in this video. Along with the patches I make on camera, I’ll also include a few other examples of finished patches so that you can get a broader picture of these various musical personalities.

https://tildeinstruments.de/rontgen/

Transparency notice: Tilde Instruments kindly sent Röntgen over to me for free so that I could make videos about it, and allowed me to keep the instrument. They haven't asked for nor have they been granted any editorial oversight into the video.

Small Case Jam Sessions #15

video upload by FL3SHB4CK

"This jam is taking part of the Hiss and a Roar Sound Design Challenge 2
link: https://hissandaroar.com/v3/sound-des...
Patch notes: it's a kind of Sampler Krell patch.
Samples from H&R has been processed and edited into 10 new samples, and loaded as a bank into the 4ms sampler. Voltage Block is an 8 tracks, 16 steps sequencer, clocked by the "end of sample" of the 4ms Sampler. The 4 first tracks are modulating pitch, start position, length and sample of the sampler. The 4 last tracks are modulating time, desity, pitch and reverb of Beads, the real time granular effect, feeded by the sampler in stereo.
The sampler is set in loop mode, so each time a loop of sample ends the sequencer advance to the next step of the 8 tracks, each in random order.
It's rather chaotic but you can control it a bit with attenuators and knobs positions of the sampler. In addition, the Intellijel FSR 1U (top left corner) allow me to freeze the buffer of Beads, and to modulate the size parameter, from reverse long to short. And outside of the case, a simple passive switch can mute the "end of sample" gate to freeze the Voltage Block.
Quite FUN :)

esthetical note: focus on cables is totally intentional."

Creature From The ID: Krellotron Musical Instrument

video upload by Giorgio Sancristoforo

Krellotron Musical Instrument

CREATURE FROM THE ID

THE SECRET OF THE “ELECTRONIC TONALITIES”

Creature From the ID is a music software inspired by the pioneering work of Louis and Bebe Barron, designed to emulate their self-generating electronic circuits, using only the techniques available in the 1950s.

A LOVE LETTER TO SCI-FI

Creature from the ID is an act of love that honors the Barron’s legacy, a new tool for teachers and students of electronic music who want to explore one of the most fascinating chapters in the history of electronic music. The circuits of this instrument seem to have a life of their own. The sound is warm and analog and the modulations create unpredictable and fascinating alien sounds.

VISIONS OF THE FUTURE

I leave it to you to judge whether I have succeeded in capturing the spirit of those sounds, those years, and that vision of an unlimited and magnificent future that the Barrons so eloquently conveyed through their music. And just to be clear on this, no AI or samples were used in the making of this software.

Serge Modular | Episode 02 | Voices and Utilities

video upload by Cinematic Laboratory

"I wish I could do this all day. Building a Serge system in eurorack is great fun, and the same applies to figuring it out. I've been running this channel for a while know and I assumed I knew a lot. In EP01 I knew nothing and I could hide behind fancy animations. In this episode I still don't know enough to dive deep but I've figured out there are 4U voice- and utility panels. Most of them can be directly translated to eurorack and in this episode I've 'built' a La Bestia II (with some missing parts).

A deep compare with Maths is unavoidable, so we're going to compare Maths with DUSG again. I shouldn't do this, but Serge modules have rise and falls all over the place and they sound totally different. Indeed, they're designed to double as full featured VCO's with varishape waveforms, AM and FM. They can filter, and work as VCA's or LPG's. This is called 'patch programmability'. So what's on the panel isn't necessarily what the module is for. Without direction, a dual slope means nothing.

Enjoy the wierd, wacky, and sometimes noisy timbres from Buchla-style digital synthesis with complex oscillators, wavefolding, etc.

The Volca Modular is running a modified Krell patch.
Krell patch is a generative style patch based on the amazing sound design from Louis and Bebe Barron for Forbidden Planet in 1956, where the characters discover the old Krell civilization."

At last: the Krell Patch on a Frap Tools modular system!

video upload by Frap Tools

"It's time to confront ourselves with a pinnacle of modular synth techniques: Todd Barton's Krell Patch.

Inspired by Bebe and Louis Barron's soundtrack for the 1956 sci-fi film "Forbidden Planet", this patch revolves around a 'modulation feedback': a single LFO drives the whole patch and triggers many S&H circuits that generate random voltages, which, in turn, constantly modulate the LFO speed and shape.
