Minimal Audio Current: Dark Ambient Cinematic Presets Demo
video upload by Anton Anru
Minimal Audio Current 'Dystopian Soundscapes' is a collection of 50 atmospheric presets that evoke the feel of dark sci-fi soundtracks, dystopian films, thrillers, games, and dystopian novels. The soundset includes: 12 Pads, 8 Strings, 6 Drones, 7 Keys, 8 Synths, 9 Textures.
🎆 Get the soundset: https://bit.ly/3MTxpdH
🧬 Exploring this relatively new plugin was a fascinating experience, and I was thoroughly impressed with its capabilities. The sampler and granular engines, outstanding effects quality, and extensive wavetable synthesis options played a pivotal role in shaping this sound bank.
🗃 Each preset in this collection has a cohesive style, blending noise, distortion, and vintage tape emulation, striking a balance between experimental elements and playable, accessible sounds. The pack includes atonal sounds, drones, and textures perfect for creating tension and suspense. The core of the collection consists of atmospheric sounds, ranging from soft, expansive, and lush to bright, shimmering, distorted, orchestral, vintage, and more.
🧿 These presets are versatile and can be used in any genre where a dark atmosphere is essential, such as techno, ambient, IDM, industrial, drum and bass, and others. This collection is also an invaluable resource for soundtrack composers, game developers, audiobook producers, video creators, advertisers, and social media content creators.
🎚 Each preset is carefully programmed, with dozens of modulations, velocity settings, mod wheel mappings, and macros, providing a wide range of expressive and creative possibilities.
🎛 The macros are a significant part of the soundset. They can change tone, stereo width, modulation depth and rate, noise level, distortion, detuning, space/echo/reverb, effects mix, envelope parameters, and others.
You may control them via MIDI controller, use them for automation, or map the macros to your DAW modulators like LFO, Shaper, and others.
💡 Ensure that you are using the latest plugin version.
Installation:
Open the plugin. Push Menu -> Show User Presets. You will see a folder with the plugin banks of presets. Put the folder "Anton Anru - Dystopian Soundscapes" here.
Open the plugin again. Push Menu -> Rescan Presets Folders. You will see the new soundset in the plugin, both in the Steam Tab (Local) and in the upper presets bar.
In case you don't see the new soundset, relaunch the plugin.

Sequential Prophet 5 + 10 INHALT Factory Continuum Patches Demo
video upload by INHALTVIDEO
"Instant download of these patches here:
https://inhalt.bigcartel.com/product/...
2023 marks the 10 year anniversary of my sound design employment with Sequential. To commemorate this occasion I created a very special library for my favorite analog synth-the Prophet 5. Of all the Sequential synthesizers I've worked on, I feel like the factory patches I made for the Rev4 are most exhibitive of the INHALT sound (particularly patch 1 of the factory bank).
Following in the footsteps of the factory patches I made that ship with the Rev4, I decided to develop this continuation add-on library: "Factory Continuum". What's presented is a full group of 40 patches in the definitive INHALT style of usability and elegance. Basses that sit seamlessly against a kick drum, deep pads and strings, a plethora of classic and cinematic suspense patches and even some drums for good measure. They all have that special sound that only the Prophet 5 (and 10) is capable of delivering and many take advantage of the added velocity and aftertouch controls for ultimate playability.
This patch library overwrites group 5 of the preset banks so if you have patches saved there, make sure to back them up before sending this library to your synth. All of the patches are compatible with both the Prophet 5 and 10 Rev4. This is an instant download."

Suspenseful beats w/ Great Conjunction FM + Phantasmal Force MIDI controller and Mengqi Wingie MKii
video upload by Arman Bohn
"Resonant suspense.
The Great Conjunction (pile of parts in the middle) is sending FM drums, bass, and synths through the 1010bluebox to the Wingie MKii which mixes in some tonal resonance. The Phantasmal Force is controlling the notes of the resonance by sending chords on MIDI channels 1&2."

Batman Cave-Inspired Suspense-Driven Eurorack Piece (Instruo Modular, Make Noise, Qu-Bit)
video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek
"Thanks for watching!
Recently rewatched Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy, which was composed by Hans Zimmer, and was heavily inspired to make this piece by the eerie sensation of inside the Batman's Cave, surrounded by bats, water, and fear itself. This modular piece is the calmer, yet eerie interpretation of what I felt while watching it. Using a combination of Instruo Modules, and Make Noise Modules, and most importantly using self-oscillating filters of the Qu-Bit Tone, for the purity and different sound than a standard oscillator. Detailed patch notes on Patreon, as usual. Cheers!

Tom Oberheim Two Voice Pro Excerpt by Gary Chang
video upload by GSF AGENCY
"Directed by Chris Morgan ... http://www.darkenergymedia.com
Produced by Geoff Farr / GSF Agency ... http://www.gsfagency.com
While the New TVS Pro is a 'reissue' of the TVS with the classic SEM sound of the '70s, a few details have transformed this instrument. Once destined to sit atop a Hammond B-3 or in a multi-keyboard setup, the new TVS is at home in any modular system, providing handy pitch and timing reference, and shining as an excellent compact master keyboard for playing polyphonic synths without having to fire up the DAW.
In this video, the Tom Oberheim TVS Pro plays sequence #1, while supplying clock to the modular systems' sequencers. External sounds include a Karp hi hat; Wiard kick, Mayhem and Pedal tone; a Tonestar grand casa; MiniMod Bass; Elements chunk; Serge funk; Serge and Nebulae suspense and 2 Roland MKS 80 Super Jupiters pads, played from TVS Pro Keyboard with Local OFF.
The music in the video is performed live, without overdubbing or editing. Special thanks to Anthony Baldino for sprucing up the mix before the shoot.

DUNE-Inspired Suspense-Style composition (Discrete Synthesizers CMS MR-15 Modular Synth & Eurorack)
video upload by Piotr Garbaczonek
"Thanks for watching!
After watching Dune for the second time last week, I wanted to make a new Dune-inspired composition. The scene I am specifically talking about is when Paul and his mother are walking through the desert, trying to find the Fremen, and they almost get eaten by a sandworm. I used the CMS synth for the dynamic arpeggio pattern and the eurorack for every other element. Everything is also going through multiple instances of Valhalla Shimmer in Ableton. J3PO Prophet Rev 2 Patches - Official Sounds Demo
video by J3PO
"The J3PO Prophet Rev 2 Patches — for the DSI/Sequential Prophet Rev 2 synthesizer.
You can buy these patches for your Prophet Rev 2 from www.j3po.net
There are 50 patches in this bank and they will load to User Bank 3 patches 1-50 on your Rev 2. The cost is $35 USD.
The Prophet Rev 2 has become one of my favorite synths of all time, due to its incredible modulation capabilities and pure sound. Although the Rev 2 sometimes gets overshadowed by its more expensive siblings such as the Prophet 6, OB-6, and Prophet 5/10, I have found that with a little time and careful programming, the Rev 2 stands up to the others. In many situations, it actually outshines them. Many thanks to Jason Cooper over at www.voicecomponentmodeling.com for providing the inspiration to create even more compelling patches for this instrument.
This collection of sounds is loosely divided into three categories: 1. Contemporary (Progressive Soul, Hip-Hop, Fusion) 2. Vintage (Synth Wave, Electro Funk, Outrun), and Cinematic (Drama, Suspense, and Retro). I hope you enjoy these sounds as much as I enjoyed making them.
00:00 Intro
00:04 Contemporary (Progressive Soul, Hip-Hop, Fusion)
09:09 Vintage (Synth Wave, Electro Funk, Outrun)
14:58 Cinematic (Drama, Suspense, and Retro)
25:47 Outro
Available from www.j3po.net
I also have patches available for the Prophet 6, OB-6, Prophet 5/10 and a free bank of 50 sounds for the free VST synth 'OB-Xd' — all available on my website. If you're a Nord Stage 3 user, download my bank from the Nord Keyboards website."

Halloween (1978) - Opening Theme (Movie Version) Cover
KOSmusic
"This is my cover of one of John Carpenter's most famous horror themes: Halloween (1978) - Opening Theme (Movie Version).
I have always loved this music composed of piano sound and John Carpenter's unmistakable synths, that make it truly one of a kind and perfectly suited for a movie that has to keep in suspense!
To get as close as possible to the nuances of the original piano, I chose not to use the MIDI sequencer but to record it live to give it greater expressiveness, a slight irregularity (in particular at the beginning of the track where the piano increases the speed and then stabilizes) and realism.
I used the CS1x sounds for the synth sound that plays along with the piano (starting at minute 0:15) and the "saw" string sound which starts from minute 1:19."

Patch Notes: Ennio Morricone Tribute
TheEndorphines
"Ennio Morricone tribute patch based on the Good, Bad & Ugly soundtrack.
In this patch we are using Furthrrrrr generator with exponential FM to add inconsistent pitch drift in order to make the sound more realistic and human."
---
As many of you likely know, film composer Ennio Morricone passed away on July 6. He didn't work primarily with synths but he did incorporate them. He actually composed the soundtrack for The Thing using synths as a tribute in a sense to John Carpenter. From The Vinyl Factory:
"This is an unusual release in the soundtrack back-catalogue in it being a rare instance where John Carpenter chose not to score one of his own films, and where Morricone experiments with synth-tones in his composition, seemingly in acknowledgement of Carpenter’s style. There’s a lot of muddied details that surround it, but as the story goes Carpenter was disappointed with what his musical hero (he got married to the music of Morricone) presented and embellished what appeared in the cinema with some of his own fills, leaving out a great deal of what Morricone had prepared. The LP however, includes tracks selected by Morricone and trumps his other works for horror in suspense and execution. Nominated for a razzie. Go figure."
I read that Ennio Morricone believed a synth shouldn't be used to recreate real world instruments, but rather as it's own instrument. via Wired:
"To create that original score for Tarantino, Morricone largely turns to tools unavailable in 1964, like synthesizers, which drive the tense, gloomy eight-minute overture. (Morricone’s compositions for The Thing, used in The Hateful Eight, were some of his first work with synths in the early 1980s.)
The experimenting composer isn’t above technological advances, but he’s quick to warn young composers of the dangers of seductive technology. “Electronic instruments have to be used to justify something that doesn’t exist, not to replace for instance an orchestra,” he says. “If you use the synth just to recreate the sound of an existing musical instrument, it is wrong. But if you use the synth to create sound that doesn’t exist, that’s a very wise way to use it.”
So technology can be a cautious step forward in music composition, as long as you don’t use it as a crutch. “If the composer—or the so-called composer—becomes a kind of slave of technology, if he uses technology in a toxic way, this is not progress,” he says. As Morricone sees it, technology’s role in music is “a moral stance, not only a technical stance.” A broader variety of possible sounds can benefit a soundtrack, of course, but the ease of synthetic sounds is not worth the loss of the authentic and everyday. Use technology to add a human whistle or the real tick of a watch, but don’t replace them with false facsimiles. As he describes it, in composing, “everything must start from your soul, from your heart, even when you use technology.” In his score for The Hateful Eight, Morricone is, in part, reusing music composed for a thriller in 1982 for a Western in 2015—but 70 years after his first Western, he insists he’s still experimenting, from the heart."
P.S. Thanks to gridsleep for requesting a post on Ennio Morricone and TheEndorphines for the video. I was hoping something to pay proper tribute would come in and it did.

Lyra8-1 // Soma Lyra-8 Organismic Synthesizer
Published on Jun 11, 2018 Lost For Words
"Warning: harsh tones and heavy distortion ... and hopefully you like that kind of thing!
I've had the Lyra 8 for 4 days now and have spent a few moments with it. It's a crazy, crazy synth unit but there are moments of design genius and beauty that dispel any doubts I've had about buying it!
Here I'm playing it without touching the sensors and I've created a kind of 3 track piece. Bringing up the Hold and Sharp knobs to fade in the parts. No external CV input.
Voices 7&8 come in first and they have LFO modulation engaged. The complex LFOs are set to OR have sync off - creating a pitchy pattern fed to those two voices
Voices 3&4 are FM cross-modulated by 1&2 and so you see me playing the Mod knob above 1&2 in order to change the pitch back and forth.
Voices 5&6 are set to a higher pitch drone to bring in some suspense towards the end, along with heavier distortion. I've added a little reverb to smudge the hard edges.
Subtle feedback modulation and some slower LFO settings create some wonderful sounds from the Lyra. Whenever I turn this thing on I get lost in it for hours... 6 or 7 hours!"

Roland D-50 Demo
Published on Aug 26, 2017 100 Things I Do
"When the D50 came out it was a sound revolution. So much Jean Michel Jarre composed most of his Revolutions album on this synth alone. At the end of the 80's and early 90's you heard this synth and its presets absolutely everywhere. From Enya to Ryuichi Sakamoto to Klaus Schulze. Everyone was captivated by the sound.
For me the D-50 is a very different beast from the JD-800 of last week. I love its sounds, its effects are amazing. With the PG-1000 programmer its a little more easy to program and you can still get some very unique sounds. This is still a go to synth today for many for creating atmosphere and suspense. The presets instantly conjures up the years of its birth but still has some special magic in the sound !
The demo was made after a long time of programming, I decided to go with presets. The track is influenced by Ryuichi Sakamoto's Wild Palms score."
