Juno 106 + Boss MT-2 : Daft Punk - Rollin & Scratchin

YouTube via Benji7905
"This is a recreation of Daft Punk's classic Rollin' & Scratchin', with a Juno 106 and a Boss MT-2 Metal Zone distortion pedal. That's the same thing they used for doing it, so it sounds very similar, and I'm quite proud of myself :) The beat is sampled from the track, and the other synth was quickly done on Korg MonoPoly VST, Ableton Live is controlled by the Edirol PCR500

A review video from justastudio

Novation has always been one of my darlings in the world of synthetic sounds.
This little synthesizer is much more than plastic box with sounds. Its also a soundcard and midi controller. Great for travelling purposes or in the low-budget home recording studio.
The video shows me playing live and running through some of the presets programmed by various top artists such as: Ferry Corsten, Jamiroquai and Roots Manuva. Minor tweaking and pitching.
You need to like the sound of Novation and dont expect any analogish sound from this little beast.
Furthermore its not build like a 70s synth which means the knobs and the case itself is a bit too plastic for my taste.
But I was (still am) impressed. The soundcard is far better than M-audio, EMU 0202 and other low-budget recording gear. It only needs USB power to run and on top of that a 3 osc synthesizer with a decent sound.

Value for money.

EQ, compression and limiter added in the final mix/mastering.
(Some clipping might occur)

Please keep in mind that this track was entirely done for showing what sounds you can get from the Novation Xio synthesizer.

NAMM: Metasonix Eurorack Modules From Tube Warm To "Crazy Metasonix-Style"

YouTube via gearwire
"Our mustachioed friend Josh from Bigcitymusic.com talks about the three upcoming Metasonic Eurorack Modules. The R-51 -- voiced for analog synth mangling -- allows you to add mild tube warmth or take it to the next level (BAM!) and get all Metasonix-y (i.e. sounding like bathroom humor). The R-53, says the enigmatic Josh, is the most extreme Eurorack so far -- and being that it's from the makers of the amp who's name may never be spoken, that's saying a lot.

See more on Gearwire.com."
