Dancing on the Moon

Dancing on the Moon from Ethan Goldhammer on Vimeo.

via http://twitter.com/moogmusicinc
"The first installment of the Flam Clap Clavicle Suite.

Moog Voyager + Talkbox (E.Goldhammer)
Electric Guitar + Wah Wah Pedal (D.Blair)

Found all this great public domain footage a while back and never came up with a good use for it until now. Came up with some twisted moogloops. Spit some of the lyrics from Max Fleischer's Color Classic "Dancing on the Moon" (1935) through the Moogbox...and this is what came out.

All other moonlapses come from my personal archive of New England lunar activity.

For the original DOTM... check it out on the archive:

With all the Buzz over "3D" these days, it's easy to forget that there were cartoons in 1935 experimenting with "3D" landscapes that are pretty fantastic.

This is for y'all to dance to it slow/ 'cause it's fantastic."

Jack Pavlik: The Storm

"The Storm 2000

This sculpture uses one single band of spring steel twenty feet long; that creates sound merely by rocking back and forth as powered by a single motor. The variations in the patterns and the depth of the sounds give viewer the feeling of an oncoming storm."
Filing this one under nature and DIY.

Atari Punk Pedal modification of the Atari Punk Console - GetLoFi

YouTube via circuitmaster
"In order to appease the stomp box market, here is a version of the Atari Punk Console in a Pedal case with True bypass switching and Frequency control using the Guitar's Volume knob. The guitar is basically used as a remote potentiometer for the APC circuit. WARNING! This Pedal will not work with Active Preamp Guitars, or in the middle of a pedal chain. However it has guitar control, active circuit volume reduction, and stomp switch pop elimination. Cruise over to GetLoFi.com to find out more!"

Audio used as CV into FreqBox

YouTube via soundxplorer. I want that on this.
"Audio from the PC is being used to modulate the frequency of the MF-107's oscillator. Arturia's 2600v is great for this because its oscillators go well into LFO range. Delay and Ring Mod are applied to the CV signal at times. The last clip uses speech as the audio source. No audio is heard from the 2600v, only the FreqBox. My audio interface is not DC-coupled (the M-Audio Delta 44) so it would not work properly with software like MOTU's Volta for envelopes and pitch output, but LFOs seem to work fine."

GrainScenes Teaser

"A new reaktor ensemble I'm working on. Just a simple grainsampler with different "scenes". You can switch between the scenes via midi notes."

If your'e not familiar with Nitti he's an Atlanta based HipHop/Pop producer known for his work with Gucci Mane, TI, Young Jeezy, Yung Joc, Young Capone, Gangsta Boo and Dem Franchize Boyz."

A New World in Synthesis

YouTube via Pic2008Lex

Note the above video does not feature any synths. It is a concept video for a tablet UI. The hardware looks like the majority of artist renders for the upcoming Apple iPad/iSlate. If you haven't heard, tomorrow, Apple will announce their new tablet device. Rumor is it will essentially be an iTouch with a 10" screen, more power, memory and may have the ability to run multiple apps at the same time. [Update: it most likely will]

Why is this a new world in synthesis? In short this is a new hardware platform for synthesis. Yes it is an extension of the iTouch platform, but the obvious key difference and game changer in my opinion will be the size of the screen. For example, imagine controlling all of your synths running Numerology on the device in that video. Imagine interfacing with your modular with a UI optimized version of VOLTA or Expert Sleepers. Imagine running Way Out Ware's iSample, or how about an ARP2600 emulation with sliders. Imagine running Audio Damage's tattoo on one, etc. And don't forget the accelorometer. Processing power, additional memory, and potentially running multiple apps at once will only add to the advantage the slate will have over the iTouch.
