Radikal Technologies Accelerator Feature Update

via Ancient Eyeball Recipe on the AH list:

This, from joerg on the spectralis forum:
"We just added some additional features to the Accelerator:

1.) Two additional audio outputs.
2.) One SPDIF output for people who want to keep everything digital
3.) We added a special chip to the USB bus that avoids any kind of groundloops caused by the USB specification.
4.) We added a second expansion slot to the unit. DSP expansion can not only add new voices but also add new functionality like other sound algorithms.
5.) Added more memory so that the unit can hold at least 1000 single sounds.
6.) Performances will have independent single sound memories. So can make changes to single sounds of a performance without changing the original single sounds.
7.) Oscillator PM can be controlled via velocity already. That allows for nice dynamic playable FM sounds.

The german retail is 1998.- Euro

The US price is not confirmed yet. So please don't just multiply the Euro price by the current dollar/euro rate. We try hard to get the US price under 2000.- $ as well."

Waldorf Q+ Filter Demos

via SovietSpaceChild on Gearslutz (be sure to scroll when you get there for more)

"I noticed that, in the last several months, there has been quite some debate over whether or not the Q+'s analog filters are "worth it" or not, so I decided to make some demos. The three demos are as follows:

1) In series tests 2 analog lowpass filters in series vs. 2 digital lowpass filters in series.

2) Post filter tests a Comb- filter with an analog lowpass filter in series vs. a Comb- filter with a digital lowpass filter in series.

3) Pre filter tests an analog lowpass filter in series with a digital lowpass filter vs. two digital lowpass filters in series.

I normalized the signals because the waveforms from the examples with the analog filters were literally 2x the size of the digital patches. I can upload the unprocessed waveforms if anyone wants them."

Ruin & Wesen 2010

via Ruin & Wesen where you will find the full post. The following is an excerpt.

"The last 4 months, and in particular the last 5 weeks, have been quite intense for RuinWesen. A lot has gone on and a lot of problems have become painfully acute. We would like to take this time to fill you in on what has been happening and what we have planned for 2010.
Ruin and Wesen: the company

Ruin and Wesen was started quite quickly and eagerly by us both, without having ever met except over the internet and webcam. A lot of people started asking us for our electronics devices, and we realized that in order to distribute them in a meaningful way, we had to start a company. Of course, none of us (Wesen coming from programming, Ruin coming from analog DIY electronics) was quite aware of the amount of work involved in building products in an industrial, professional way, and we made up a lot of things as we went. We are quite satisfied with the results, but we have to admit that we made our fair share of mistakes along the way.

The main mistake was probably to be too focused on the products themselves, and not on our customers. As we are users as well, we see all the cool possibilities of opensource controllers and opensource synthesizers, and of course talk about them. People pick up on that, and of course when we realize that we don’t have the time nor the resources to implement them, they get disappointed. Another “mistake” is not realizing that the setup costs involved in building batches of hardware are awfully high compared to software development or kits for example. This caused us a lot of trouble as well (a batch of minicommand requires setup costs of about 12000 EUR).

These issues and their consequences are what led to the prolonged “pause” since end of 2009, that you may have noticed on our blog and on twitter. This thinking time was necessary to rethink the concept of our company through, and work out carefully the steps needed."

Eurorack is on the way:
"Ruin has been building some very interesting analog synths over the past few months. One plan has been to get into the world of Euro Rack module production. Some prototype modules have been developed for that."
