HybridSID: Streaming Register Data Form USB Memory Stick

"Hi,

when using HybridSID in stand-alone mode, the TinySID library is used to emulate the C64 CPU and drive the real SID chip. The problem is, this library can only handle tunes in PSID format. Since HVSC #50, digi-tunes have been converted to the newer RSID format, and some new tunes are also released in RSID format, without any PSID version at all.

After adding the alternative 'Network SID Device' firmware, it is possible to play those tunes while having the HybridSID device being connected to the PC by using 'ACID 64'.

Wilfred Bos, the author of ACID 64, tipped me to his ACID 64 DLL library, which can be used to load SID tunes and obtain the SID register values together with the appropriate time stamps of the SID register writes. So I wrote a Python script to convert all my RSID tunes to some custom dump format and added support to the regular HybridSID firmware so that it can stream those .dmp files to the SID, cycle exact, and without being connected to a PC.

"Latest version of the 'ultra' SA keyboards i've been working on over the last few months.

The video takes a while to get going as i wanted to show the lfo interacting with the filter properly before i added the drums and noise to the mix.

They now have an internal mixer, atari punk console and a sine/saw/square wave lfo modulation generator.

The demo here is a little rushed, very overloaded/drone orientated and maybe not as elaborate as the previous SA vids i've uploaded but it does show the new features to good effect including the ultra rare Nihon-Hammond DPM-48 drum machine being fed into the external input of the mixer. Thought i'd get it in a video as they're rarely ever seen anywhere.

As usual the film escallates into increasingly harsh noise towards the end but if this is your cup of tea then there's plenty of variety in there...."

"This is a little different from 'all' the other el capistan videos online. I play Soniccouture Music Box (free samplelibrary) inside Ableton Live, through the Strymon El Capistan and Electro-Harmonix Cathedral.
The pedal is bypassed until 0.30.

The audio was recorded inside Ableton, normalized and exported. No other processing (eq, comp etc.) was used.
