Roland GR-300 VG-99 Side-by-side Comparison Virtual vs Vintage Guiar Synthesizer Demo

YouTube Published on Jun 18, 2012 by WayneJoness

"http://www.joness.com/gr300/GR-300.htm A real GR-300 is played simultaneously with a virtual Roland GR-300 (from the Roland VG-99). The vintage GR-300 is panned right, the virtual GR-300 (VG-99) is panned left. The same effects are applied to both synths. I used the direct input to the VG-99 to process both real and virtual synths through the same effects. At the beginning of the clip, with the outputs panned mono, you can hear flanging between the two synths, the waveforms are very close"

"Running a simple beat sequencer on my iPhone (beatwave) into the new synth I'm building:
http://casperelectronics.com/finished-pieces/mini-modular-noise-system/
The magic trick is ring modulation! I have all the audio from the synth being ring modulated by the audio from my phone. This works really well with vocals and melodies too.
The basic effect is that there is only an audio signal when BOTH devices (iphone and synth) make sound... and the sounds are mixed in an interesting way. So basically you only hear the synth when the beat is playing.
More info on ring modulation:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ring_modulation

For the techie folks out there, I'm using the AD633 analog multiplier chip for ring modding. Its obsolete but can still be found. Its super simple to use and functions really well.

Another cool trick I'm doing here is using a sample and hold circuit to modulate the pitch of the oscillators in the synth. The clock input to the S&H is coming from the beat, so the pitch changes somewhat in time.

The big knob on the left is a multi turn pot which controls the pitch of all of the oscillators in the synth at the same time."

This iPad application lets you design MIDI instruments from the ground up and then play them in a unique way: by sliding (‘surfing’) your finger across the screen. This very special approach to beat making and production allows for more creative expression and brings back a human touch and feel to your MIDI habits.

TK and Hawkeye - Air Time

YouTube Published on Jun 18, 2012 by ucapps

"A jam session that I had together with Peter aka. Hawkeye (sitting in the background) in his studio - see also his YouTube channel for more great music: http://www.youtube.com/user/Maelstroem3 !

At 1:16, Peter added an impressive FPV recording made with his model airplane flying at the south border of "Starnberger See", a lake between Munich/Germany and the Alps.

Used instruments:

Hawkeye: directly played an Access Virus C

TK: used his MIDIbox SEQ V4 and BLM16x16+X to play an Elektron Machinedrum for the percussions, Moog Little Phatty for the bass, MIDIbox SID for additional basslines, Yamaha FSR1 for the pad sounds.

We started a bit uncoordinated, but found our style after 1..2 minutes.
We hope that you enjoy the video anyhow! ;-)"
