7 Minutes with an Ipad Synth - PPG WaveMapper for IOS

Published on Feb 16, 2015 Synth Anatomy

iTunes: WaveMapper - Wolfgang Palm

"PG WaveMapper features the Sound Map, which maps the various sounds in a way to easily access and experiment with them, more importantly the PPG WaveMapper features a new synthesis system which maps the waveforms of a sound into a new kind of wavetable which preserves the sound characteristics better than classic Wavetable synthesis and at the same time allows for the manipulations which make WT synthesis so unique.

The Mapping window is the visualisation of a pool of programs on which “modules” float. Those modules represent certain parameters of the synthesiser engine and each module can be placed on one of 32 programs. The moment an item is placed on map then the parameters of that module will take on the settings of those parameters in the underlying program on the Mapping window.

People who do not posses synth-programming skills can use this mapping technology as a starting point to create complex sounds. For example a user can drag a string sound source onto a drum envelope, or a guitar sound onto a string envelope – the concept is simple, yet incredibly powerful."

Casio CZ-1 Running through the Dreadbox Erebus Filter

Published on Feb 16, 2015 ProckGnosis

"I was curious how my Casio CZ-1 (a very 80's digital synth!) would sound running through my fully analog Dreadbox Erebus Analog Synth filter.

It met and surpassed my expectations!

Unfortunately I didn't really maximize the test options in this video. I didn't do a full-resonance filter sweep test with the CZ oscillators, so sonically I didn't really "push the envelope" so to say.

Regardless, it sounds great, and it has inspired me to put a piece/song together with heavy contributions from this Phase Distortion antique! I say it again...not the most programmable synth on the planet, but very capable of producing some unique and cool sounds, especially running through a quality analog filter...

Cheers!"

Published on Feb 16, 2015 musotalk

"AKAI Rhythm Wolf review in Englisch. The Rhythm Wolf is an analog drum computer with a simple mono bass synthesizer. It is cheap but the build quality is quiet good. It features full size MPC Pads and nice knobs to tweak the sounds. More german language reviews and videos: http://www.musotalk.de"

"If the korg volcas went back in time it may have looked and sounded something like this. Sort of an ode to Tangerine Dream in my own weird style. Enjoy the sweet view of gear in a false vintage setting! As always, thanks for stopping in and watching/listening.

Schmidt 8 Voice Analog Polyphonic Synthesizer Demo

Published on Feb 15, 2015 kpsiegel

"Watch in HD for highest quality audio. I did a demo of some original patches on my Schmidt 8 voice polyphonic analog synthesizer. The arpeggiated patch was driven by the arpeggiator from my Roland VSynth GT which was out of frame. Audio directly recorded into my DAW. There were a couple of minor distortion bursts that I apologize for. Two effects sends from my mixer were used. The first went to an Eventide H3000 D/SE running a custom patch from Italo De Angelis and the second send was to an Ekdahl Moisterizer. No other effects.

Apologies to Lana Del Rey ;-)"

Knifonium Tube Syntheszier Demos

Published on Jan 19, 2014

"In this video I try to demonstrate the Knifonium tube synthesizer. I start with the basic oscillator sounds and then add various "extras" such as changing the amplifier modes and boost, oscillator sync, FM, filter and amp feedback controls, the amazing ring modulator, and the sample and hold modification of the filter cutoff. Along the way I play with filter cutoff and some resonance stuff and basically have fun with it. The joystick controls filter cutoff in the Y direction and pitch in the X direction.

Most of the video is recorded with the Knifonium sound raw into my DAW (Sonar X3 Producer) with absolutely no processing or EQ. I wanted to give people an idea of what it sounds like as you are playing. Towards the end of the video I introduce effects from my Strymon Mobius, Timeline, and Big Sky. It's pretty obvious when they kick in."

Run Away Sound Track

Published on Jan 18, 2014

"This is a first video made with two new pieces of gear. The background sequences are done with my Juno 106 that has been modified with the Kiwi 106 board. This gives it a lot of new features including a sequencer. At the very beginning I use the editor to start the sequencer remotely. The synth you see me playing is the Knifonium which is an all tube synthesizer developed by Jonte Knif of Knif Audio. Everything was recorded live without any overdubbing at all. The only effects are the Juno 106 is going through a Lexicon PCM-80 and the Knifonium is going through an Eventide H3000 D/SE.

The original inspiration for this was me fooling with the Knifonium which I have just had for a day and putting it through the H3000 D/SE and feeling like it had a movie sound track feel. Like if you were walking into a bad situation. On the same day I finished installing the Kiwi 106 upgrade and when I used the sequencer they just seemed to mesh into some sound track like feeling. So...it was snowing all day and I just put it all together for fun.

The Knifonium has a HUGE sound to it. This video doesn't really show it off much but it was just a lot of fun to make so I figured why not since there is not much out there on the Knifonium yet. More to come on that!"

Solaris pad demo

Published on Jul 21, 2013 kpsiegel

"This pad uses CEM mixed triangle and pulse, a morphing square wave, and wavetables on the 4 oscillators. It makes extensive use of filter feedback and modulations of mixing levels, VCA pans, and VCA levels. I also use the sample and hold through a lag processor at very slight modulation amounts on the pitch of the oscillators to simulate some analog oscillator drift. Sort of irrelevant with a wavetable but what the heck."
