OTA Lowpass Filter Test - Corsynth C101 vs MOTM-440

Published on Mar 5, 2015 alternatingbitmusic

"The Corsynth C101 is an impressive filter with a classic Roland sound, but how does it stand up to the MOTM-440 OTA Lowpass Filter? Perhaps my demo will shed some light.
"Both filters are based on 4 cascade OTA stages.
The C101 uses the OTA chip LM13700 while the 440 creates the same OTA structure using matched NPN / PNP pairs."

Analog and Modular Synths in ONE-GO

Published on Mar 5, 2015 jakobsweb

"If ever you wondered (or not): This is what it looks like when I play around with my analog synths in my studio.

I prepared some chords and sequences/arpeggios in Ableton Live and used it as master clock sent to Analogue Solutions Oberkorn and 2 Doepfer A-155 sequencers. Those sequences I faded in via mixing desk - the Ableton parts are triggered by means of a Novation Launchpad. The whole Session was recorded in one go. I dare not say live - as the only synth I actually did play live here is the Korg MS20 mini.

Synthesizers and music tools used are:

Studio Electronics Code and SE1x, Analogue Solutions Leipzig-s and Telemark + Oberkorn, Macbeth modular and Micromac, Intellijel Shapeshifter + Dr. Octature filter + Make Noise Echophon, Endorphin.es Furtherrr + Aion filter + Synth Tech E560 Deflector Shield, Vermona DRM MKIII, Cwejman S1 mk2, Roland JX 8P, DSI Prophet 08, Moog Minitaur, Korg MS20 mini.

Basically this is a sonic walkthrough of most of my analog synthesizers (hmm - forgot to add the Moog Voyager ... well, next time).

Leave a comment if you like, rating positve would be highly appreciated if you actually do like it ;-) ...

Please keep in mind - this is not a professional recording but the doing of a true analog synth lover."

A Nutting They Did Go

Published on Mar 4, 2015 John L Rice

"A bit of a zany tribute to NASA and other space exploration organizations around the world and also to science fiction writers and producers. They both inspire each other and provide the rest of us with some of our most exciting hopes, dreams and fantasies.

Thanks for watching, liking and commenting on my videos!

DETAILS:

Main Bass Line: 3 x Synth Tech MOTM-300 VCO's, sub-mixed with a Moon Modular M526 mixer and then into a Grove Audio PM Resonator followed by a prototype/beta sample of Grove Audio's G294A low pass filter kit I built (basically a Moog 904A clone) and finally into a MOTM-190 VCA that is being modulated by a Moon M511C VC EG. A Moon M569 sequencer provides 1 row of pitch control for the VCOs and gates for the EG, 2 rows of CV for the EG and the 4th row is transposing rows 1 and 2 via my custom modification. A MOTM-380 quad LFO also modulates the overall CV level of the EG. Strymon Mobius and BigSky pedals provided effects processing.

Occasional Melodic Line: Novation UltraNova MIDI'd to a Korg microStation playing preset patches in unison.

Rhythm Line: Roland TR505 drum machine playing stock patterns. MIDI out of the TR505 also goes to a Moon Modular M553 MIDI-To-Clock module to drive the M569 sequencer.

Lift Off Roar: Just a quick bit of sound design I did with the 5U modular. Two outputs from a MOTM-101 Noise module go into a Happy Nerding Fun VCF with a little help from a Synthesizers.com Q125 Signal processor etc.

Asteroid Thump And Following Explosion: these are licensed from Pond5.com and I had used them in a previous video a couple years ago.

Movie Dialog Clips: There are all licensed from Loopmasters.com and from two different movies; Assignment Outer Space and Cosmic Mission. (except for the word 'DERP' that I recorded myself ;-)

Video Clips: A majority of the clips are public domain and I downloaded them for free from www.pond5.com! Such a great resource for video makes, check 'em out! Some of the clips I had licensed before and used in prior videos.

Modular synth audio was recorded to a Marantz PMD-661 flash recorder and then transferred to my PC. Keyboard synths were recorded direct to the PC via the Ultranova's USB interface. My 'Derp Voice' was recorded direct to the PC using a Blue Microphones Yeti USB mic.

Everything was mixed/assembled in Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12."

"My latest Spectralis 2 track. I'm hesitant to upload new songs with such boring videos. Although my videos with time-lapses are the least watched. I'm tempted to move away entirely from YouTube and go directly to SoundCloud, to gain more attention for the music, not my gear..."

Beyond Tape Warble With The Haas Mixer for Propellerhead Reason

"From tape warble to flanging to FM-like chaos, you can cover a lot of ground if you’re looking to expand your sonic palette. Check out our product page for more details. Company Website: http://flyinggreendoor.com/"

Published on Feb 20, 2015 Flying Green Door, Inc.

"The Haas Mixer’s primary function is to implement the binaural psychoacoustic effect known as the Haas or Precedence effect. This effect utilizes time delay to change the perceived direction of a sound source assuming stereo output. By definition this means that each channel of the effect requires a mono input. The effect can directly replace traditional panning or add spatialization to a more traditional mix.

Stereo Width

By increasing the range control above 10ms, the perceived directionality becomes more difficult to discern but what you end up with is a wider stereo image. This can be very useful for providing stereo width to an otherwise dry and isolated sound source.

Voltage Control

Like all rack extensions, this device accepts CV input to control the directionality of your sound sources. With increasing LFO rates this can become an effect all by itself creating stereo sonic chaos from yet uncharted territory.

Flanging

For convenience, the Haas Mixer comes pre-wired to allow mono output which sums the left and right channels. Using the mono output will produce flanging effects similar to those heard from most variable time delay units."
