"Being 39 years old, all Korg PS-3100s will have problems if they haven't been serviced in many years (EVEN if they were never gigged and kept in a smoke-free studio).

THIS unit has been serviced and REFURBISHED by a professional synthesizer and electronics engineer with decades of experience.

The POWER SUPPLY going is a common problem with synths of this era. This one is now in good shape for years to come.

However, most important is THIS (the reason for the REFURBISH):

The plastic connectors that seat the voice cards into the backplane on this type of machine have become brittle and prone to breakage. They WILL break if they haven't been replaced, especially when shipped. When I first bought this unit that's exactly what happened: it worked fine for the seller, and the voice card connectors broke during shipping because of the brittleness with age. So even if another PS-3100 is said to be in great condition -- unless the backplane has been rebuilt it will almost certainly fail during transit or soon after.

Replacing the connects requires sourcing new compatible connectors (the old ones are long out of production) means finding a technician familiar with not just analog gear, but wire-wrapping (because that's how the harness is wired). Painstaking hours are then spent, at GREAT COST, to rebuild the backplane. If this hasn't already been done, you will end up with a busted synth -- probably as soon as it is next jostled (like during shipping when you buy it).

THE BACKPLANE ON THIS UNIT HAS BEEN REFURBISHED.

That is why, if you want to purchase a PS-3100 to PLAY it, you should buy this unit. (That is also why it is more expensive than the few others kicking around for sale.)"

"A classic and somewhat rare analog modular synth. Fooling around here with the sample and hold."

"An all-original Electronic Music Laboratories ElectroComp EML-200. This is a prime, collector-grade example of a rare analog modular synthesizer. Cosmetically extremely clean, and fully functional. A pot or two is noisy, but nothing requiring more than a cleaning. Comes with four original Switchcraft patch cords.
The Model 200 was introduced in 1969, with a blue panel. This is is the second version, with the silver panel. Serial #05XX. This is the cleanest example you're likely to find."

VOLTLIFE: Kamieniec in the feedback loop of a delay

Published on Dec 31, 2016 voltlife

"It's common to use a high- or low-pass filter in the feedback loop of a delay, but phasers can also produce attractive effects. This is a short demonstration of Xaoc Devices' Kamieniec phaser in the feedback loop of Roland Demora delay module."

"A track that was inspired by the random voltage generator in the 208. I decided to lay that down x3 tracks of the sound and then just added sounds until I liked with I heard. A quick montage of images from the videos I created this year is also included to round off 2016 :D Thanks to everyone for the support this year!"

BOSS DR-110 Live Jam

"The poor man's TR-606, it's the BOSS DR-110. I wanted to show off how you can perform on this machine live. The only issue that you have to be aware of is that clearing a sound still allows that sound to trigger once before cleared so you have to plan a bar ahead. Otherwise it's a fun little box to jam on.

This was recorded directly out of the machine with no post-processing or effects."

Cracking the Vectrex & Sega Saturn for Synthesis

These two videos came in via @midi_error. The first video on the Vectrex is pretty self explanatory. The second video on the Sega Saturn focuses more on bypassing the CD copy protection in order to load custom software, followed by a custom sound patch designer at 11:l6.

"Running some test ROMs on the Vectrex! (Only 2nd week of dev) Still having a few issues with hardware envelopes - they worked in assembler when I kept things simple - but get lost in translation from a YM source even though I can see the registers in the code. All part of the fun - I hope to have it working soon! This is simply a work-in-progress."

Update: Dr Abrasive now has a twitter! https://twitter.com/prof_abrasive Discussion is now over at http://assemblergames.com/l/threads/s...

FYI: This is not a commercial product. It also is still being tweaked.
FYI: The sound patch designer tool shown is in early early days!"
