Maxim MDS 1000 - Simmons SDS V clone from the 1987
Published on Feb 4, 2017 100 Things I Do
"The Maxim MDS 1000 is a 1:1 design clone of the classic Simmons SDS 5. How close a clone you may ask? Well, I was able to use SDS V schematics to repair the MSD1000!
The majority of the board is consumed with logic chips for the preset bank selection. Other than that its very basic where you have tone , noise and bend as you main generators, followed with a Decay envelope. As you can see I picked up this unit in very sorry but complete state (with some original Maxim SDS Copy drum pads).
Due to cheap production of the PCB it suffered from a lot of broken solder joints, and some horrible layout. Traces will break and lift almost no matter what you do when working on the PCB. The Main connector between the front panel and the PCB is a major point of pain and I ended up running point to point wires to stop this failing in future. I still have not fixed the logic on the Low tom and the Bass Tom needs a new SSM 2044 and Sensitivity potentiometer.
All in all if you can find one at a good price (and you have the ability to do some tweaking of the Filter and noise inside the unit) you have a source of true analog SDS V sounds at what should be much less cost than an original."
There have only been a handful of Maxim MDS 1000 posts on the site.
X1L3 - Circuit bent Yamaha DD-10 - R2 - evolving glitch percussion
Published on Feb 4, 2017 manufacturedZ3R0
"Updated version of the circuit bent DD10.
Sequenced via MIDI from propellerhead reason.
It can also be synced to midi clock if you want to program patterns and run them internally.
Replacing the original distortion found in the older works with a 'ruiner' hybrid ring modulator / distortion which gives it greater command of and a more dynamic range within the bizzare. Under pinned with a Korg monopoly drone, microwave pad and sid chip arpeggio. Shifting form clean to increasingly damaged as the set runs.
Adhereing to a formula of creating machines that are capable of hitting extremes but at the same time maintaining a very high degree of control. Once mastered they're fluid and capable and unique instruments. Perfect for those with a liking for experimentation, blured boundaries and none linear workings.

New Nonlinear Labs C15 Videos
Nonlinear Labs C15 - Haarlem Sessions - Trancy World from Stephan Schmitt on Vimeo.
via Nonlinear Labs:
"In the Summer of 2016, Federico Solazzo visited us because he was curious about the C15. He is a very experienced and versatile musician, a proficient synthesizer expert and sound designer. We decided to give him one of our C15 pre-production units for a few weeks. We wanted to find out how the C15 would inspire him in the way he plays keyboards and designs sounds.
In October we brought a C15 to his home in The Hague (NL). Federico started to explore the instrument and created a collection of his own presets. We asked him to think about a number of music pieces or improvisations that would show some characteristics of the instrument in a video recording session.
As a location we chose Studio Helmbreker in Haarlem (NL) where Federico had recorded the latest album with his band 'Azure Hiptronics'. The main room has a great sound and atmosphere.
We were very lucky that two other members of the band - Luciano Poli (bass) and Satindra Kalpoe (drums) - joined in for some of the pieces. The recording took place on the 6th of December, 2016. Bowie Verschuuren was the man behind the camera. All tracks were recorded 100 % live; no overdubs or effects were added - only slight EQ-ing and limiting was used."
Boom Bap with Electribe 2 and Microgranny

"Run through several patterns composed during the week. Some tweaking of filters, effects and samples involved. Raw Electribe sound with a bit of compression added from the miniKP2S. Recorded in one take. Would love to know what do you think about those! Enjoy!"

"The Prophet-5 is an analog synthesizer that was designed and manufactured by Sequential Circuits between 1978 and 1984. With five voices of polyphony, the Prophet-5 is one of the first polyphonic analog synthesizers with patch memory. About 6,000 units were produced in three revisions by Dave Smith and John Bowen. The Prophet-5 is known for its use by progressive rock bands and film composers.
This unit is a Rev 3.3 with 120 programs, still housed in it’s original box. This one is exceptionally clean and in very good working condition. This piece has been serviced and tested, but the new owner may benefit from a more comprehensive inspection. This Prophet-5 is 110/220 VAC voltage selectable and comes with a Hosa FSC-502 foot-pedal. See photo’s for additional details."

New Synthrotek RND Module Now Available
Published on Feb 4, 2017 synthrotek
via Synthrotek
"Introducing the Synthrotek RND! It’s like math.random() for modular gear!
This handy module is a feature rich random voltage generator that is shallow and super powerful. It outputs random voltages (similar to a sample and hold) in time with either its internal clock, or with an external clock you can patch in. An external clock will bypass the internal clock, and the CV jack over the clock, so your random voltages will always be in sync with whatever you patch in. With CV control over both the clock speed and the range of your output voltage, you could create anything from a wildly fluctuating blur of notes all the way to a slow, lilting tune. The RND can also be used as a clock source with it’s clock out jack.
Features:
Clock Speeds:
Slow Range: 0.5Hz to 10Hz
Medium Range: 2Hz to 40Hz
Fast Range: 16Hz to 320Hz
Linear CV control over clock speed and range"
