Sound of Science is a transatlantic duo comprising Tom Carpenter and Jason Huffman.

Tom is the man behind Analogue Solutions and has been building synthesizers for over 15 years. He has supplied synths to people such as Trent Reznor, Martin Gore, Vince Clarke, Phil Oakey, Daniel Miller, and many more. The designs are directly influenced by his love of electronic music.

Jason is an analogue synth wizard, composer and a lover of all things that make noise. He also produces the legendary Rezfilter videos (see YouTube) that highlight these excellent synthesizers. Together they have pooled their years of combined experience of songwriting and sound design to produce real songs using real synthesizers.

"The SD909 adapts the iconic TR-909 snare drum and noise generator for use in the Eurorack modular synthesizer format. We painstakingly tested the module in our lab to sound like a fresh machine coming off of the assembly line back in the 80s. On top of the original circuit, we have added new features that expand the palette of what can be produced with this analog circuit.

The sound of the SD909 consists of two main sections: the binary noise generator and two modulated triangle oscillators. The oscillators provide the low end punch while the noise makes up the upper sonic spectrum, resulting in a combination that makes the 909 snare sound so rich. In the SD909 module the noise generator and oscillators are variable and voltage controlled, which pushes the circuit beyond its original boundaries offering new sounds as well as many variations of the original tone. The panel has markings to guide setting the knobs to reproduce the snare sound of the vintage machine.

Just like the other drums in this series, the SD909’s high-powered output gain stage allows further enhancement of the sound through distortion and clipping. We have designed a dual pulse-shaper circuit on each gate input so you can trigger your SD909 with Trigger/Gate signals from step sequencers, clock dividers, or any other pulse/clock sources. Also, the SD909 is equipped with access to the MIXZ MixBus matching the rest of the Tiptop line of percussive modules."

Eurorack melodic modular jams by musicalfungus

"Having fun with 2 Moog Mother 32s. The Mothers are playing the melody. Bass line and some Percussive elements being sequnced by a Turing Machine, that is quantized via the Ornament and Crime in Quantermain mode. The rest of the glitches and randomness provided by the Du Krpls. Rest of the drums are from the Volca Beats playing a slowed down and augmented dnb drum pattern."

Live Jam #96 - Evolving / Drone / Textures - 84hp Eurorack skiff

Published on Jul 26, 2017 Monotrail

Sounds like traffic, a factory, and the ambient sounds of the city.

"I am currently on a residency in Madrid, combining sound and visual arts. For this project I decided to bring this small eurorack skiff along, and nothing else. Unfortunately I did no have as much time for this week's jam as I wanted, but I will try to make it up during the next few jams that I will make here with this setup.

If you are interested in learning more about my residency you can find more info on a blog I keep on my visual arts website: http://rkamerbeek.nl/espositivo.html

All sounds are from the modular, the laptop is only used for recording. Disting mk4 is the sample player, with speed, start position and reset being modulated. Main sound is the Doepfer a143-4 square mix out through the wasp filter. Kick(ish) sound is the Doepfer a-143-4 triangle mix out through the Make noise LxD.

Monotrail is now on Patreon! If you want to be part of my project, support future video's and receive special patron bonuses, check out: https://www.patreon.com/monotrail"

Not all FM synths are alike. The FM4, which, according the teh internet, is an FM synth modelled after the Yamaha TX81Z. The building blocks, the variations of sines and inverted sines, sound pleasant and are useful in bringing out unique FM timbres. The waveforms are a bit rare in commercial FM synths today.
The different "models" reproduce lush and pleasant digital audio aliasing to various degerees, inspired by legacy technology.

Highly recommended.
