Orchestral Tools Junkie XL Brass
Uploaded on Jan 20, 2019 Orchestral Tools
Tuesday, January 22, 2019 — Following the success of its Berlin and Metropolis Ark series, German sample library developer Orchestral Tools has joined forces with leading Dutch producer, composer and multi-instrumentalist Tom Holkenborg to create a brand-new brass collection, Junkie XL Brass.
Holkenborg, better known in the music business as Junkie XL, is a former industrial noise producer and chart topping electronic live act, who has become one of Hollywood’s most successful and singular film score composers, blending classical composition with a mastery of modern instrumentation and studio techniques. One of the movie industry's few billion dollar box offices composers, Holkenborg’s diverse credits include Mad Max Fury Road, Deadpool, Black Mass, Mortal Engines, Tomb Raider and the forthcoming James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez project, Alita: Battle Angel.
Won over by the superior interface, sample cutting and playability of Orchestral Tools’ products, Holkenborg felt that the company was the ideal partner for creating his brass library: “I needed a ‘sound voice’ in this industry and realized right from the beginning that I needed to build my own sample libraries, and that’s why we’ve gotten to the point of creating my own brass library together with Orchestral Tools.”
As with previous Orchestral Tools collections, Junkie XL Brass was recorded at the Teldex Scoring Stage in Berlin, a distinctively balanced 450 m² hall with sublime acoustics and the finest microphones from the last five decades. Classic brass instruments – trumpets, French horns, trombones and tubas – were sampled in many different section sizes to provide maximum depth and versatility, with a dynamic range going from pianississimo to fortississimo.
Junkie XL Brass is scheduled for release in late 2019 and will be available exclusively for the new Orchestral Tools Sampler Platform. As well as being designed as “an homage to acoustic instruments”, this platform is a powerful tool that is capable of customizing every single articulation to the user’s individual needs. And, as Tom Holkenborg explains, capable of inspiration as well: "What I want you to feel when you open up the sample library and play your first line is that you want to make music straight away. That’s how inspired you will be when you use Junkie XL Brass."

Dinsync GILBERT

via this auction
"DinSync’s GILBERT is a DIY analog synthesizer modeled after some of Roland’s most famous monosynths of the 1970s and 80s. The oscillators are based on the SH-101, the form factor and suboscillator are based on the MC-202, and the filter comes from the SH-09.
I will try not to repeat what’s readily available on the DinSync website. Suffice to say that if you’re looking for that butter-smooth, rubbery analog sound that made Roland famous, this is a great way to get there. Sequence it with a 303 or x0xb0x and you have a great little acid synth; or play it from a keyboard and tap into SH-101 or SH-09 vibes.
Additionally, it makes a great addition to a eurorack or other modular setup: in addition to standard CV/Gate inputs, you also have inputs for linear FM, exponential FM, VCF, VCF frequency and oscillator sync, and outputs for the VCO’s saw, square, triangle and suboscillator waves.
Oh! And if you’re not a fan of the PCB panel construction, a fancy aluminum case should be available directly from DinSync in the next few months."

Teenage Engineering OP-1 (Part 1): Kidding around with a simple loop
Published on Jan 22, 2019 Synth & Sundry
"The Teenage Engineering OP-1 (which I hear is relatively in-demand these days) on its own on my lap. I put together a simple drum loop that ran through some delay for syncopation, then just added bass layer and other melodic elements courtesy of the Dr Wave, Pulse and String modules. Additionally, everything is run through the Grid Effect.
Here are three more OP-1 based videos:"

Best Ambient Synth Shootout #62: Quasimidi TechnoX - Song 3
Published on Jan 22, 2019 Christian's Sonic Spaces
"This is the third song with the Quasimidi TechnoX. It's a 21 voice 16-part multitimbral ROMpler from the mid-90s with a focus on techno, rave, electronic.
I used for the recording the following FX chain:
Quasimidi TechnoX - Pigtronix Echolution 2 Deluxe - GFI Systems Specular Reverb v2
The signal went through a Presonus StudioLive 16.0.2 into the PC via USB for recording. To create the complete song I recorded consecutively several stereo tracks. The final song was then mastered with a bit EQ and compression on some tracks and some limiting on the master track."

I remember the early days of Jexus, aka WC Olo Garb - click through for a history of WC Olo Garb posts on MATRIXSYNTH - you can scroll down through the years back to the first post back on 9/18/2005 - he also went by polaranta on Flickr. In the beginning there were synth pics followed by the videos. For all posts mentioning "Jexus" click here. He had and continues to have quite an influence on others in the synth community.

Elektron Model:Samples Drum Machine Sample Player - Perfect Circuit Demo
Published on Jan 22, 2019 Perfect Circuit
"The Model:Samples is a new sample based machine from Elektron, that has knob per function control over parameters and pressure sensitive trigger pads. The Model:Samples brings Elektron's powerful sequencer to a lower price groove box, which still has parameter locks, per voice length as well as midi in and out. There are six sample voices each with distortion and filter effects. A delay and reverb master send effect can effect all of the voices. Notes and triggers can either be played into the sequencer in real time with optional quantizing, or programmed in step by step with probability options and micro-timing.
