Let's Build a… Synthesizer [BITWIG STUDIO 3] & Modular Concepts
Published on Jul 10, 2019 bitwig
"This tutorial constructs a basic synthesizer. Taking a classic approach of three mixed sound sources, we explore oscillator detuning, amplitude vs. filter envelopes, waveshaping, modulation, and even injecting audio samples. A good example of turning an idea into a new instrument in Bitwig Studio and The Grid.
0:30 - Just one oscillator to start
1:11 - Source 2: another oscillator and mixer
1:51 - Two sources with pitch & frequency offsets
3:09 - Adding a filter…
3:42 - …and a filter envelope
5:13 - Source 3: noise generator
5:41 - Separate noise envelope (local vs global control)
7:01 - Source 1 gets a waveshaper (local vs global control) and modulation
8:27 - Crossfading source 1 & 2
9:37 - Source 4 is… a Sampler!"
Modular Concepts: Basic Modulations [BITWIG STUDIO 3]
Published on Jul 10, 2019 bitwi
"This tutorial explores basic control signals, a core building block of patching. Starting from the default Poly Grid patch, we explore using envelopes and LFOs to manipulate pitch, both individually and together. With an understanding of how these generators work, you could apply them successfully to any type of parameter. As in any modular environment, modulations are what make any patch in The Grid dynamic and alive.
0:13 - Default patch at a glance
1:10 - Two basic modulation signals
2:27 - Using a pitch envelope
4:09 - "Attenuator test" when using notes
5:06 - Pitch LFO for trill
6:05 - Pitch LFO for vibrato (and glissando)
8:00 - Joining streams: vibrato that fades in
Modular Concepts is an ongoing tutorial series, with a new episode dropping every few weeks. Please use the comment section to share episode requests. Thanks for tuning in~"

UVI Introduces UVX670 - Akai VX600 & AX73 Sample Based Soft Synth
Published on Jul 10, 2019 UVI
Intro price $49, down from $79.
"With UVX670 we're heading back in time to the '80s to deep-dive, layer and combine sounds from two unique, underrated analog gems from Japanese synthmaker Akai; the VX600 and the AX73.
Both are six-voice analog polysynths, the VX600 being a pad monster with dual VCOs per-voice and the AX73 being remarkable for leads and basses with a 6 VCO architecture usable in either poly, stacked or unison modes through Curtis 4-pole 24/db resonant lowpass filters. These two synths both employed versatile modulation systems capable of a wide range of sounds. The VX600 had a complex mod matrix, 2 LFOs per voice and allowed frequency modulation. The AX73, with 1 LFO per voice has variable pulse width with PWM usable on any of the waveforms. Individually, neither the VX600 or AX73 have a well-known vintage classic status, but it's not due to lack of capability or rich sound potential. Combined, these synths make an incredible complement, each lending strength to the other and creating some truly powerful sounds when employed together."

Polyend Seq & Medusa Multi Voices Multi Midi
Published on Jul 10, 2019 Sounds From The Shed
"In this video I make use of the Medusas ability to have each voice sequenced on a separate midi channel. :) There's one filter and env generator but I made use of the Lfo's, waveforms and octave range to vary the tone."
Lyra-8 No Talk Drone Noise Demo Part 7 // Lyra-8 Organismic Drone Synth Demo
Published on Jul 10, 2019 Ron Cavagnaro
"Please make sure to keep your volume at a moderate level. Due to the experimental quality of this synth some parts may become noisy to some, and extremely irritable to others."

"Audiovisual installation using sound to modulate the blue beam of a cathodic ray monitor.
programming and construction Alberto Novello a.k.a. JesterN
more info/booking: www.jestern.com"
I asked Alberto what was creating the sound. He replied with the following:
"I use a BELA board (bela.io) to generate the sound. I sampled impros from my modular synth (this is the original video I made few years ago using only my modular [embed below] that I use in the installation).
For most parts I used a WMD PDO back then + lota of Ring Modulation and AM. I also use some low pass filters controlled by BELA through CV to generate the drones. I made a DIY amp to amplify BELA levels to modular, and a circuit to output all that through the speakers. The monitor is a modified vectrex, (a game console from the 80s). So it's partly digital party analog."

Inspired by the orbits of planets and other celestial bodies.

"From Blue Lantern
"This modular system is a modern dedication to Alan R. Pearlman (AKA ARP). It uses the instrument list structure from the arp 2600. Instead of making another clone arp 2600, I wanted to make an updated synthesiser, like an Arp 2700 type of project. So there are many extra functions on this system, not found on the original arp2600. The only Arp 2600 circuit that is an exact clone, is the Analog Switch. All the potentiometers are metal D-Shaft type. There are no internal patches. All connections must be manually made between module sections, this is a fully Modular System. This particular item is the Euro Format Version. A few of these system will be sold. 'Green Meanie'. The case is powder coated white, and made of aluminum."
