Early 90s bedroom producer tips - do they still work? (Yamaha EX5, ZOOM R24)

video by Floyd Steinberg

"Table of contents below! In the early 90s, cheap Sound Blaster cards and Sound Canvas clones introduced quite a lot of people to electronic music production, but it would still take another 5 years before digital audio workstations would arrive in the home studios. This was a time when you had to come up with creative solutions to improve the sound of your music without having access to professional equipment (or the internet). Here are 7 common tips I picked up in magazines of the day. ;-)

"Studios are getting more compact every year. Keyboard stand space, rack space, desktop space, it's all getting cluttered.

What you need is to get rid of all those desktop analog wannabe monosynths and pick up this thing.

Yes it's a 15+ lb rack unit
Yes it has real Moog boards inside
Yes it has MIDI
Yes it has extra features
Yes there's even a manual explaining the new stuff

Check out the YouTube video [previously posted]. It's a MiniMoog with MIDI in rack form. What more do you need to know?"

"This 3 VCO monster is completely and fully analog. Zero digital control over anything.

It also has an SH-101 style sequencer/ARP as well as being semi-modular.

If you know about Analogue Solutions, you know they're legit.

This is build to stand vertically on it's own but can be put into a rack.

This is minty fresh."
