SUPERBOOTH22 Makes Adjustments for Ukraine Refugees

via SUPERBOOTH

We hereby inform you about the revised room plan for SUPERBOOTH22 & SOOPERgrail – BeSOOPER. Parts of the FEZ-Berlin are in the potential control of the city of Berlin as an emergency residence for refugees from Ukraine. Out of consideration for this circumstance, we have partially rearranged our event. Please find all details in the attached press release. Thank you.

Press release follows:

„We have revised our space concept for beSOOPER and discovered the Badesee (Bathing Lake), now there is even more air and space for sound and visions of new music.“

Parts of FEZ-Berlin are in the potential access of the city as emergency accommoda- tion for refugees from Ukraine - which is of course appropriate and important. Against this background, it has been decided to develop further areas in the park grounds, to do without the use of the West Wing and to divide the Seebühne (Sea-side Stage) bet- ween two new locations. All artists announced for the Seebühne will be presented on the beach stage at the Badesee (Bathing Lake) and the new stage in the circus tent.

beSOOPER will thus be even bigger, with even more space and activities both outdoors and indoors: more than 150 booths with all kinds of electronic musical instruments and guitars of all known and unknown types, about twenty performances, concerts, presen- tations and workshops per day, including some late-night activities in the Bungalowdorf (Bungalow Village).

The daily cultural program will start at the latest with the workshop presentation of the
SOOPERGrail Modular Synthesizer Ensemble at 1:30 pm and will continue outdoors at full intensity and
volume until at least 10 pm.

Most of the booths and activities for guitar enthusiasts are concentrated on the upper floor of FEZ-Berlin, while the SOOPERgrail concerts will take place in the circus tent. Many of the countless synthesizer and modular manufacturers can be found and expe- rienced in the now expanded tent village - as already very successfully realized in 2021. The well-known and popular catering partners for food and drinks can be found at all outdoor locations.

In the foyer of the FEZ-Berlin there is the general info desk again, as well as the familiar ticket entrance for all visitors and artists, exhibitors and press partners. Guests arriving by public transport via the S-Bahn station Wuhlheide can get their wristband already at the bungalow village, upon presentation of their digital or printed ticket.

The war of aggression on Ukraine leaves us speechless.

We sympathize and stand in solidarity with the suffering and struggling people in Ukraine and with the refugees who are being forced to leave their homes.

Our donation goes to CADUS e.V. which helps war refugees in Ukraine and worldwide. We would like to thank all those who do the same, if possible!

"A look at the Yamaha CS01 Micro-Monophonic Synthesizer from 1982. This was one of Yamaha's last analogue synthesizers and was part of an affordable range called the 'Producer Series'.

It looks and feels like a toy, but looks can be deceiving..."

Random Sequence Lengths

video upload by boxoftextures

Follow-up to this post.

"So I was minding my business the other day and checking out Matrixsynth.com, as one does, and came across a post about a video from OZ Hall. He had patched up a Eurorack version of a 960 sequencer so it would vary the sequence lengths. I hadn't even watched the video yet but just from what was in the description I was able to see the whole setup laid out before my eyes. I could make this work in Voltage Modular with randomized sequence lengths picked automatically each time through the sequence. So I set to work and an hour late I had this patch, and in this video I go through it step by step to show how it all works.

The major difference between my version and what OZ Hall did is that I added a Random Task module and a couple of switcher modules so it could switch sequence length on its own without me having to manually do it. Could totally be done in hardware given the proper modules, of course.

To make this work what I've done is to connect each sequencer step's trigger output jack to an input on a switching module. Then, every time the sequencer hits step 1 it sends a clock to the Random Task module, which makes it pick a random voltage. That gets sent to the 1x8 Switch module which picks the output based on the voltage level. That voltage gets sent to the switching module which sends a voltage for the chosen step into the buss module and then on to the trigger input of the sequencer, forcing it to start over from step 1.

So every time the sequencer hits step 1 it essentially picks the step which triggers the reset to step 1 and you get random sequence lengths, picked by the Random Task.

So I'd like to thank both Matrix and OZ Hall, and there are links below to both the post on Matrixsynth.com and to the YouTube video that set all the bells off in my head.

Modules used:
From Cherry Audio
960 Sequential Controller
962 Sequential Switch
Random Task
1x8 Switch
SynthVoice
Mini LFO
Stereo Delay

From Andrew Macaulay
Micro MixBus
Fixed DC

From Playertron
Switchboard

From haslo

Lastly, just to make this super clear as I don't explicitly bring it up in the video, say you want to have a four step sequence. In that case, you'd want to patch the output jack of step 5 to the input jack of step one, What we're doing with the switching mechanism is having *all* the output jacks connected at once through the buss but we're letting the Random Task module choose which switch it closes on the switching module to let one of those signals through. So in a sense we're using a module to repatch the bottom row of jacks on the sequencer on the fly.

GRP R24 Sequencer - Performance Rig #shorts

video upload by O.Z. Hall

"This is a demo of the R24 sequencer. I wanted a portable sequencing solution that was fun to play. I mounted the GRP R24 sequencer in a Synthesizers.com QCP22 Portable Cabinet. I have a number of modules, including the new Synthesizers.com Q169 and Q168 Oscillator++ Combo, providing oscillator/env/amp as well as raw noise. I've also got two Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP modules, a well as bandpass filter, VCA, mixers, etc.

There are 4 voices total. Here are the voices in order of 'introduction':
1) Z506 Swiss Daisy DSP in voice/delay mode. CV/Gate from R24 Row 1.
2) The Q169 oscillator 1 processed through the Swiss Daisy DSP for VCF/VCA/ADSR. CV/Gate from R24 Row 2.
3) The Q169 oscillator 2 set to a noise waveform and processed through the Q169 VCA 2/AD envelope. Gate from R24 Row 2.
4) The noise from the Q168 is processed through a VCA/ADSR. The timbre is modulated by a multimode filter (mostly bandpass). Filter CV/Gate from R24 Row 3.

I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed making the video!"

"This is my first Jam for...well, for years, so I recently put together a 'Jam Station' consisting of my Modular and based around the MPC. I've kind of clicked a little with the MPC now and this is my first attempt. Some dodgy timing, but hey...I just wanted to record it so I could move on to something else."

Free Ableton Live Bowed Saw Instrument racks

Check out Jessie's band here

This was a fun pack to make! A friend of mine named Jessie, who's in a band called Sugarskull Piledriver/Choosy Moms, has been playing the saw for a little while. I requested at one of their gigs that he bring his saw with him, so I could sample it. We went to the basement of the club and got a few quick samples, and I was able to make some pretty crazy sounding Ableton instruments out of it, that range from haunting to plucky. I dont know if you would always think it was the saw as you hear them, but its definitely a unique quality nonetheless. Hope you enjoy it! I've been having fun playing around with them and creating some atmospheric ethereal sounds. This jam was whipped up using only the Ableton Saw instruments and a drum rack."
