7/16/23 The sound of a Viscount PCM 64S dying :(please send schematics :)
video upload by Cfpp0
This appears to be the first post to feature the Viscount PCM 64S.
"This rare and feature-packed (trigger in, out, individual snare out, footswitch jacks for break, clap, and start, volume knobs for six categories, 2 clap variation buttons, three percussion cancel buttons) preset pattern drum machine worked fine every time. Yet it wasn’t getting used enough and was put in a storage box and listed on Reverb. It sold, so it got pulled out for a final test (as one does) before shipping. What evil invisible specter lived in that box? Not sure, but it flew this Viscount over the cookoo’s nest and now this once glorious machine just ratchets and glitches. I opened it up and saw no bulging or leaking capacitors or obvious issues. We have a tech who is willing to fix it, and the previous buyer is still willing to buy it once it’s fixed, but we have no schematic. Viscount was an Italian company and restoration of antiquity is one of the many things at which Italians excel. So, if you have a schematic, posso avere? Ti prego!"

Patching the Octave Cat
video upload by boxoftextures
"Another amazing vintage synth recreation from Cherry Audio, this time the Octave Cat. Although possibly it should really be The Cat, from Octave. Either way, it's fun to program and sounds great. Always wanted one, back in the day. They also made the Kitten, a smaller version, and the Catstick, a joystick you could hook up to your other synths. Still want one of those!
And the Cherry Audio software version is excellent. It has character, and power. And it adds an extra page the original didn't have, with effects and a sequencer. Oh, and adds polyphony too. But it was the '70s, and we didn't really have such things back then, or at least most of us didn't.
In this video I'm making four patches from scratch. As usual. What's a little different is that I usually make a few before recording a video, just to get a feel for the synth. For this one though I just dove right in, so at times it may have taken me a little while to notice things, or figure them out. But it's not an overly complicated synth so wasn't a huge issue. And it sounds great. Which I may have mentioned before LOL

Patch of the Week: TRIPLE CROSS - Voltage Controlled Sound Switching with a Step Sequencer
video upload by AJH Synth Official
"The Triple Cross crossfader/panner module from AJH Synth & Tone Science makes a lot of things possible. Here it is being used as a voltage-controlled switch, to change between 4 incoming sounds, and send the chosen sound to its output. This means it can serve as a very convenient method of changing between multiple sounds, perhaps in a live performance, moving between different patches manually using the sturdy, tweaking-friendly controls. However, this behaviour can also be controlled by CV, so the process can be automated, and controlled by other modules, keyboards and sequencers.
In this patch a 4-channel/track step sequencer is being used - the excellent Erica Synths Black Sequencer. One sequencer track is used to send a melody to the VCOs and Gates to trigger the envelope generator. The other 3 tracks are controlling the 3 channels of the Triple Cross, to pan the Fade control hard left or right, like junctions on a railway track, so that the exact sound of our choosing arrives at the module's output, precisely when we want it.
Various combinations of the 3 VCOs, white noise, sub-octaves/sub-basses from the Ring SM, and animated sawtooths from the Wave Swarm are sent to 4 separate filters: The Transistor Ladder Filter, Sonic XV Diode filter, and both filters of the Gemini 2412 Dual VCF. A single Dual Contour Generator is controlling the VCA level, and the frequency of all 4 VCFs. The Sonic XV is also using its wave folder to generate a more unusual timbre from just a single triangle wave. The Triple Cross is a collaboration between AJH Synth and Ian Boddy of the Tone Science record label. It is an exceptionally useful module, being suitable for use with both audio, and control voltages, since it is DC-coupled. More videos featuring this, and other modules in the future.

The AJH SYNTH Eurorack range consists of high-end modules, all hand-made in the UK, most of which are based on classic, vintage designs, authentically recreating the circuitry of much sought-after analogue instruments and technologies of the past, whilst greatly expanding them, and bringing them to modern Eurorack levels of convenience, limitless flexibility, and reliability.
Check out the AJH Synth playlists for module 'User Guides', and 'Patch of The Week' videos, which will be either performances or 'how to' guides, detailing functions/methods, and a range of sounds, some familiar, some less so, containing a patch sheet at the end to show you how to construct it for yourself."

"Aesthetic condition 7/10
Electronically 90%
Functionality 65%
Description:
The instrument turns on and makes sound. Keybed is working via the trigger output fully and trigger all notes, however some note behave differently and randomly. This most likely cause by the cracked pcd slots, which is a n issue with most ps-series synths. I recommend you take a look at the youtube video.
Wave forms, vco, is working and can select pulse, saw, noise etc. Other functions seem to be functioning correctly via the eg output. Also all other functions on the control panel seems to be working as it should.
Buttons and knobs are working, but need work or replacement as there is some crackle and noticeable hiccup especially with the switches and selectors. This probably needs cleaning or replacement.
Originally when i bought this synth it did not turn on, so I asked the tech to change all the capacitors (about 100) to see if it will turn on and make sound safely.
As mentioned above, the pcb slots are cracked and need replacement. There is a 80% chance that after replacing these slots, the synth will work properly but i will leave that judgement to a pro.
Also some retracing or treatment need to be done, due to corrosion (10%). I have more photo's and video's available, a drive link can be shared to see."

"Amazingly expressive instrument with a super warm 70's tone to it.
A Real analog Spring Reverb, and Flanger effects are built in.
Portamento /Glissando switchable and variable
Hold / Sustain switch
Various Touch effects (triggered via Aftertouch)
Expression Pedal input on the back
Auto Repeat on / off
It's in a truly amazing, museum-worthy condition !!
And fully functional.
The 'Transpose Up / Normal / Down' switch left to the keyboard has lost some of It's firmness, but functions perfectly nonetheless."
