Interlocking hands: Minimalist generative piano (Qu-bit Bloom, Disting EX)

video upload by Electrum Modular

"Recently I’ve been playing minimalist pieces on the piano (Phillip Glass, Howard Skempton) that involve both polyrhythms and overlapping hands.
For this video, I transferred the idea to my modular system, splitting an F minor sixth chord across two sequencer channels, and clocking the channels at different rates (x2, x3).
The sequencer (Qu-bit Bloom) generates 64 variations on this pattern, a stage sequencer selects 12 of them, and a multisample player (Disting EX) performs them. Further details in the patch notes.

Other modules used:
Disting mk4
Dnipro Metamorph
ALM’s Pamela’s New Workout
Doepfer sequential switch"

Zonoxious Deep Dive Part 1: Project background & Frontend with VCV Rack

video upload by Ultratroninator 3000

"The initial video in a deep dive series provides background info and details how the Zoxnoxious analog synthesizer works. The focus is on the frontend, VCV Rack, and getting the signals required to run the synthesizer from VCV Rack out to a Raspberry Pi.

Zonoxious Deep Dive Part 2: Raspberry Pi Gadget Mode with 54 audio channels + MIDI

video upload by Ultratroninator 3000

"This second deep dive video on the Zoxnoxious synth goes into detail on the Raspberry Pi's gadget mode. The Zoxnoxious synth receives 54 control voltages as USB Audio and also USB MIDI for commands. This video shows how that is setup and used. To show the Pi gadget mode working I pull in VCV Rack and roundtrip signals from a host computer to the Pi."

A "forgettable" Buchla Filter Circuit is Reborn // 3 Patches with Pas-Isel from Dwyfor Tech

video upload by DivKid

"Pas-Isel is Welsh for Low Pass, handy that when this is a Eurorack filter module.

Dwyfor Tech are a new company who have taken inspiration from what has been said to be a "forgettable" Buchla filter circuit, smashed that into a Korg MS-50 diode ring for a resonance path and masses of lovely guitar pedal style overdrive and they've made that a Eurorack filter with bags of character, and a different tone and circuit design (it's really multiple high shelf EQs).

In the video we share some of the key points in the story of what this circuit was based on and a bit about the company. You can read more about it all on my website in this interview // https://divkidvideo.com/story-time-dw...

'3 Patches with ... ' is a video series where I pull focus on just 3 things with a piece of gear, set of functions or techniques. More of these to come alongside the larger in depth demos in the future.

You can grab a DIY kit from Pas-Isel (and request and assembled one directly) here // https://reverb.com/shop/dwyfortech

*TIMING INDEX // CHAPTERS*
00:00 Hello & patch previews
00:35 What makes this filter special?
01:47 Feature run down
2:20 Raw filter sounds
03:46 Pitch relative tones & a warm fuzzy jumper
04:56 Drums NUKED! Heavy saturation & modulation injections
06:52 Creating excitement with mixed modulation"

"Pas-Isel is a four-pole lowpass filter for Eurorack modular systems, with an architecture unlike any other. Combining design elements from Buchla and Korg, this diode-based VCF uses highpass filters in op-amp negative feedback loops to generate its signature 'wooly jumper' -24dB lowpass response.

Pas-Isel is entirely realised with through-hole components for ease of assembly. This listing is for the full kit version, which includes all components necessary for you to solder together straight away at home. All our front panels are high-quality anodised CMYK prints on chunky, quality brushed aluminium sheet stock, made in the UK. We also offer a panel and PCB set, if you'd rather source your own components, in a separate listing.

8hp wide, 3U high.
Conforms to Eurorack (Doepfer A-100) standards.
33mm depth required for mounting.
Idle power consumption 25mA on both rails.
25kHz self-oscillation power consumption 45mA on both rails.

You can find the build/user manual at tinyurl.com/pasisel - We highly recommend giving it a read before buying, to make sure it's the right kit for you. I can assemble kits to order to provide you with a completed module, dependent on my free time. I charge £50 for my time and labour in this case."

P.S. You might recognize the Kurzweil VA1 at the end.

All gear is better in black (replacing the Midicake Arp case)

video upload by Richard DeHove

"Why just make a quick guide on replacing the Midicake Arp's front panel when I can have an extended gripe about too-colorful gear? So here it is, all talk and no music about the joys of black front panels. For reasons unknown a jumble of gear colors disturbs me. Perhaps there's some deep explanation centring on light patterns, color contrast and their interaction with brainwave states? After all, why are some color groupings universally regarded as "beautiful" or "harmonious" - such as a sunset - and other combinations like brown and orange, or magenta and red, judged terrible? Either that or I'm just getting more grumpy and demanding. In the meantime, if anyone knows of a black overlay sticker for the Big Sky, I'm in.

0:00 Approved colors
1:18 Midicake Arp
2:35 Strymon neon
3:24 Arp front panel
3:50 Replacing the case
5:35 Knob time
6:55 Ta da!

Espen Kraft video in the listing previously posted here. See the Fred's Lab label for additional posts, and the Fred's Lab website for additional info.

"A six-voice, four-part hybrid desktop synthesizer, the Töörö from Fred's Lab packs huge sound and customizability into a compact package. At its core are a pair of 12-bit wavetable oscillators that can be shaped with through-zero FM synthesis, ring modulation and auto-sync giving you the ability to create rich lows and icy highs. The character is further shaped by 'virtual operators' in the FM and sync architecture, as well the MS-10-inspired, FL A847 12dB/oct resonant analog filter. All parameters are accessible from the intuitive layout and can also be controlled via MIDI, and the internal memory can store 100 presents."
