TAL Software Introduces TAL-Pha Roland MKS 50 / Alpha Juno II Emulator & Software Editor

video upload by TAL Software

"All synthesizer sounds were created with TAL-Pha"

TAL Pha vs MKS 50 / Alpha Juno II

video upload by TAL Software

"This video compares our hardware MKS 50 with the TAL-Pha audio plug-in, which emulates the sound of the hardware device.

The videos try to capture the essence of some sounds. You will not hear beautiful melodies, just some raw hardware factory presets. I'm also a bad piano player. Probably someone else can make a better video.

The tests are carried out with the factory presets of the hardware. Both synthesizers play at the same time. We alternate the output every few seconds. The sequencer shows the volume curves; the first channel is the software and the second is the hardware.

The first row of the spectrum analyzer shows the software synthesizer. The second row is the hardware. The oscilloscope on the top shows the master channel with the waveform of the final output.

The MKS 50 is an analog device. Things will never match exactly. LFOs and DCO phases are free-running and never match. Volume, resonance intensity, and hardware envelopes are slightly different for each voice.

The intro is done with the software emulation and it's internal FX.

Notes:
We improved some things like the envelope, the chorus, and also the bass boost after we made this video."

TAL-Pha is an instrument plug-in that emulates the sound of the analog 80's synthesizer Alpha Juno II (MKS-50 is the rack version).

The plug-in produces the classic analog sound, combined with modern flexibility and many additional functions. The plug-in can read and convert sysex information from the hardware and can also be used as a controller.

Authentic emulation of the 80's hardware synthesizer.

Resonance boost for filter self-oscillation.

The possibility to detune, modulate, and sync the pulse part of the DCO.

Simple but powerful FX section with delay, reverb, and a bell-eq.

Arpeggiator with different modes.

Stereo UNISON mode with up to seven voices.

Aftertouch and MPE support.

Microtuning support (tun file import and MTS Client).

Original factory banks included.

More than 380 fresh presets by Electric Himalaya, The Unfinished, Saif Sameer, emptyvessel and TAL.

Individual tuning for every voice converts the synths DCO into a VCO.

Reads Sysex files and Sysex MIDI from the hardware device.

Can also control a hardware device. If enabled, it sends Sysex through the plug-in MIDI output (only possible when supported by the DAW).

New Groc Granular Hardware Synth from Oddment Audio

Playlist: 1. Groc granular synth - modulating fun
Here we have simple note sustain while modulating grain bandwidth, overlap, placement (in stereo field), distortion drive and filter cutoff frequency. Oh, and our first reveal of the delay unit!
2. Violin and ambience with Groc granular synth
Here we are editing sample loop points, ADSR envelope and Groc's unique "time path" to create lush sustains from a short violin clip.
3. cool fall day + warm groc tones
walking on a cool fall day, accompanied by warm tones produced by groc granular synth
4. Groc - LED sequence with spatial sound
This video shows the first testing of the groc interface board, and includes the first audio demonstrations of spatial sound overlaid. Headphones recommended!
5. Groc Demo - Grain parameters
First demo of groc's grain parameters with a guitar loop as audio sample.

"Sculpt sound. Modulate everything. Do you groc?

Stunning, yes.

Slim, yes.

Powerhouse, also yes.
quad core 64-bit ARM processor
1GB RAM, 4GB of user storage
vivid DSI touch screen
cutting edge signal processing
fits in a bread box

Not like the others.

Groc demonstrates that a compact form can deliver unparalleled functionality. Access dozens of parameters in the custom granular synthesis engine with 4 grains encoders. Achieve one-of-a-kind manipulations of playback speed, shape multiple envelopes, edit audio sample crop and loop points, adjust 4 LFOs, 3 macros and morph between patches with just 8 more encoders. Add in an entire world of effects, accessed with just 4 more.
The large and vivid touch screen provides rich information and beautiful visualizations of your sounds, and enables deep functionality within just a touch or two. Is this where we mention the placard at Oddment HQ that reads, “Down with menu diving!”?

Patch without limits.

Every parameter on groc is a modulation destination, and connecting modulation sources is as easy as plugging in a patch cable (w/o the need to search in your closet).

To go with its myriad destinations, groc has a bounty of modulation sources: 4 LFOs, 4 envelopes, MIDI velocity, key tracking, polyphonic after touch and all the rest.
In the event you were hoping to use a physical patch cable, yes, you can use groc’s modulation sources to wiggle analog voltages via the 4 control outputs. Or configure them as inputs to control any of groc’s parameters with CV from your other gear, a sustain pedal or you name it.

Did you want to sequence a parameter, or draw a custom modulation curve on the touch screen? That seems reasonable and groc will support you. Do you want to connect a dozen or more modulation sources to the same parameter? That is far less reasonable, but that’s just, like, our opinion."

"This was a cool pawn shop find. Back in 2008, The Raconteurs sold some limited edition S-1 Stylophones at their live shows. It's essentially a 2007 Stylophone Reissue with a special black & copper finish. The original would've included some tour memorabilia but this one didn't have it.

BAF2024 - Wavesequencer Hyperion - Impressive Modular Software Synth

video upload by sonicstate

"At Buchla & Friends 2024, Sonic State had the opportunity to chat to Paul from Wavesequencer about the Hyperion modular synth. The Hyperion is a VST-3 and AU plugin(also standalone) that is optimized for multiprocessing, allowing for up to 32 voices and 16 layers. Each layer acts as an individual modular patch with unlimited nodes, and there is also an arpeggiator and MPE mode for added versatility. The synth offers a wide range of synthesis types and comes with over 150 node types for patch design. It can be used for both complex and simple sounds, with the capability to handle sample playback and act as an effects processor as well. With its robust features and affordable price tag of $129, the Hyperion offers immense value and has been flying under the radar until now.

For more information about the Hyperion synth and to check out demo videos, visit Wavesequencer on Tracktion Market place.

There's also Theia, a patch player product that provides access to Hyperion's patches at half the price. Theia is a curated set of patches with more musical presets. For keyboard players, while still offering the flexibility to edit levels, arpeggiation settings, and more. To learn more about Theia, visit the Traction marketplace.

Overall, the Hyperion synth impressed with its powerful capabilities, clean UI design, and the dedication of its one-man developer. As a synthesizer, effects processor, and patch player, the Hyperion offers a range of possibilities for both keyboard players and those interested in generative ambient patch generation. With wavesequencer.com as a resource for demo videos, users can get a better sense of the synth's potential.

A Handful of Patterns on the Sonicware Liven Mega Synthesis

video upload by Robbeken

"When I was a kid my family got a Sega Genesis (Megadrive) at Christmas.

I’ve been cursed by a love for FM synths since…

I’m so dang nostalgic for the sounds and music of that era that when this little groovebox was announced I ordered right away!

Liven Mega Synthesis…
M-Sega S-Genesis… ?

I got the flu right when it arrived so I hadn’t spent as much time with it as I planned.
I got better!

It’s battery powered so I take it with me sometimes to play on work lunch breaks, or chilling on the sofa with family.

Here are a handful of patterns I’ve been playing on it. You may recognize couple from games!

Not only do I love the gritty crunchy sounds of this thing, I like how the sequencer works; especially its stutter and random modes. They’re great for fills on drums and grooves on bass.

🦔

For great justice."
