Turning the DONNER D1 drum computer into a melodic sample player using this small script

video upload by Floyd Steinberg

"The Donner D1 essential is a digital, sample-based drum computer with a live- and step sequencer. @loopop did an excellent review already, so in this video, I focus on the basics and also code a small script that turns the D1 into a chromatic sample player (so one can play chords and melodies and basslines along the drum tracks).

The Amazing Rise, Fall, & Resurgence of Dubreq (the Stylophone company)

video upload by Musical Miscellany

"This is a follow up to a previous video I posted on the Stylophone pocket organ [posted here]. In this video I go over every Stylophone ever made from 1967 to 2024. I hope it is informative to someone."

Stylophone Gen X-1 with Strega & Volante

video upload by Stazma

"I've been sent some stuff by the folks at Dubreq, including their Stylophone Gen X-1. I tough that like th Casio I got for my kid this would be a great pairing with the Strega from Make Noise, in order to give a "serious" and even ominous quality. I had a blast recording that session. The end is the best part hahaha.

Have fun!

Sponsored as I had the Stylophone for free."

Radel "Magic Plus" Digital Tanpura/Tambura Natural Sounds

video upload by Edward Jones

Interesting device. Could benefit with individual buttons to flip between presets as well as knobs for the rest.

A search for Tanpura and/or Tambura on the top right will bring up others.

Loopstyler, low/high-pass filter, extreme resonances

video upload by Gechologic

"A few more interesting moments which did not fit in the previous demo, showing what happens at the edges of the filter cut-off and resonance range.

All sounds are coming from the device, as recorded on the SD card, with no additional processing, except for the peak volume normalized to -6dB, and fading in and out when editing the video."

Exploring vactrol filters and modular utilities with Nekyia Circuits Mezcal, Muzzle & Cadence

video upload by Tom Churchill

"In this video I’m checking out three modules from Nekyia Circuits. Muzzle is a vactrol-based filter; Mezcal is a compact multi-utility that includes a mult, rectifier, mixer and comparator; and Cadence is a triple decay envelope generator. Between them they provide lots of really useful analogue tools for a modular synth setup, and they all have some interesting twists.

I build a few patches that not only show what these modules can do but also provide some more general patching tips and tricks for modular synths. Hopefully they’ll give you some ideas for things to try with your own setup if you have modules that can do similar things."

10:03 Using a rectifier & comparator to expand a vco
15:43 Using envelope bursts to make drum sounds

ERM Polygogo Eurorack Polygonal Synthesis Doom Metal Drone

video upload by Nightlife Electronics

"A quick video demo showing the heavy drone capabilities of the amazing E-RM Polygogo eurorack module. Patched here as the only sound source and connected to a Make Noise Pressure Points/Brains combo. Doom Metal aficionados take note!

The E-Rm Polygogo, and a whole bunch of other fantastic synth gear, is available now at Nightlife Electronics ( https://nightlife-electronics.com/ )."

Mystery synth prototype with generative oscillators from Rare Waves

video upload by EA78751

"Rare Waves demonstrates a synth prototype in 2024. This tabletop synth with black panel and mahogany sides contains a pair of identical euro modules that EA developed in 2021. The modules each contain a voltage-controlled generative oscillator and a 4-pole filter. The generative oscillators have wide frequency range and several outputs, so they can be used as sequencers, tone generators or noise sources. The generative oscillators can be linked by clock in / clock out and have built-in switchable clock dividers. The 4-pole filter has well-behaved high-Q self oscillation and can do damped sine wave percussion and sine wave VCO, with choice of either LPF or all pass phase shifter mode. All together, the tabletop unit in the video demo contains 2x generative oscillators and 2x 4-pole VCFs, which makes many possibilities for cross modulation. I’m not sure how many waveforms are possible, but it’s a lot! All analog, not a CPU-based synth. Rare Waves LLC / Grendel 2024 (rarewaves.net)

Part 1 (0:00) Damped sine wave percussion sequence with sine bass
Part 2 (2:29) V/oct melodic control from external sequencer (Grendel 2TAC)
Part 3 (6:27) White noise and complex timbres
Part 4 (11:02) Freeform sound and noise synthesis"

Aodyo Instruments Introduces Anyma V - Virtual Counterpart to Anyma Ph

Anyma V: With the Anyma Omega keyboard video upload by Aodyo Instruments

"This is a video of Léo from Aodyo Instruments playing Anyma V, our new virtual instrument, using the Anyma Omega prototype keyboard.

Anyma V is a hybrid physical modelling virtual instrument that blends electronic music elements with advanced physical modelling technology. It simulates acoustic sounds like strings and reeds, as well as resonating structures such as wood, glass, and metal. Compatible with any MIDI controller, including MPE controllers and DAWs, Anyma V offers polyphonic capabilities and seamless patch transfer with the Anyma Phi hardware synthesizer. Available for Windows, macOS, and Linux in standalone and plugin formats (AU, VST3).
