4ms Meta Module - SonicLAB Review

video upload by sonicstate

"Many have tried to create this kind of platform taking software Eurorack or DSP synthesis from the desktop such as VCV Rack and running that code in a Eurorack hardware module. 4ms are up for the challenge - essentially you get a DSP module able to run some VCV rack modules (160 and counting) - the list is growing - but be sure to check the latest one.

Meta has 2x gate inputs, 6 audio/CV inputs, 8 audio/cv outputs and 12 assignable knobs to freely control the modules you built in it. With USB-C and SD Card storage, you can edit the setups adding modules and control until you run out of DSP, which will happen eventually - thats just the way it it.

You can create patches on the unit itself, with a well thought out UI for adding modules, routing and knob and connection assignments - though inevitably it can get a little clicky, its impressively well done.

Paulee Bow aka ‪@magicalsynthadventure3216‬ takes a look for SonicLAB and finds it can do quite a lot... Available now priced at $649/£569 street"

SYNTESLA SDLF-1 DISTORTION MODE DEMO

video upload by SynTesla

"In distortion mode, the SynTesla SDLF-1 filter produces a real explosion of harmonics on resonance. The internal distortion is inspired by the best effects pedals and delivers a highly musical result. A simple square wave through the filter is proof of this."

Introducing the KORG multi/poly Synthesizer

video upload by Korg

Priced at $899.99 USD. Check with dealers on the right for availability.

"The KORG multi/poly synthesizer, inspired by the legendary Mono/Poly, blends the rich, classic warmth of analog sound with cutting-edge digital flexibility. Powered by KORG's next-generation analog modeling technology, it offers a unique mix-and-match multi-synthesis approach, allowing you to combine parameters from classic analog synths like oscillators, filters, envelopes, and portamentos, providing endless creative possibilities for sound designers and musicians alike.

Its Virtual Voice Cards recreate the nuanced characteristics of analog synths, such as Pitch Drift, while advanced modulation options like Layer Rotate (round-robin with Programs), Kaoss Physics (pad gestures for modulation), and Motion Sequencing 2.0 (complex per-voice motion with multi-lanes) enable deep, immersive sound design. Building on the legacy of the Mono/Poly, the multi/poly delivers big, dynamic sounds with modular-derived experimental features, offering an unmatched sound experience that bridges the best of vintage and modern synthesis, pushing the boundaries of sonic exploration.

"Amazing analog sounds that only digital can provide

Inspired by the legendary KORG Mono/Poly, the new KORG multi/poly analog modeling synthesizer delivers breathtaking analog sounds combined with extraordinary digital power and flexibility.

The original Mono/Poly boasted an unusually rich sound from its four stacked oscillators, as well as unique, experimental features like flexible x-mod and sync routing and round-robin oscillator triggering. Previously only attainable in large modular systems, the Mono/Poly delivered these features in a compact, user-friendly instrument.

"Interesting old film detailing advancements in computer/digital technology, featuring the 'Graphic 1' computer system at Bell Telephone Laboratories.

Includes scenes of:
*Digital musical composition
*Electronic circuit design utilising a digital pen
*Digital movie production
*3D simulation of orbiting satellite
*Conversion of pictures to mosaics composed of tiny images
*Digital voice modulation

The Bell Labs 'Graphic 1' computer system consisted of a Digital Equipment Corporation 'PDP-5' computer coupled with input devices such as the 'Type 370' light pen and Teletype Corporation 'Teletype Model 33' keyboard, married to a Digital Equipment Corporation 'Type 340' precision incremental display backed by 36-bit Ampex 'RVQ' buffer memory capable of storing 4096 'words'. The resolution on the monitor was 1024×1024.

This system was designed to transform the graphics-based input into output to be fed into a IBM '7094' (200 Kflop/s). The entire thing was attached to a microfilm-based recorder - the Stromberg Carlson 'SC 4020', which took hours to read and record the data."

Phase Engineering LEQ-5 - Additional Details & Pics

You can find a demo of the LEQ-5 here.

via Innerclock Systems

"The LEQ-5 is a specialised five-band inductor EQ module crafted to enhance the 'sweet spots‘ across the bass spectrum. The design incorporates high-quality components that provide exceptional performance using genuine custom-wound ‘tuned’ inductor coils generating a wide sonic pallet and focused tone shaping with + / - 15dB of gain and attenuation on each band.

Features
* Five band induction-coil EQ tailored for low / low-mid frequency signal processing.
* Low and High frequency shelves.

Package Contents
* LEQ-5 Bass Equaliser module.
* 16-pin to 10-pin Euro-rack ribbon power cable.

Connecting the LEQ-5
Typically we would suggest inserting the LEQ-5 at the end of the audio signal path keeping the input signal level low enough to allow for the cumulative output signal gain possible.

Shelving EQ

Separate LF and HF shelving.

Inductive EQ

The use of inductors in equalisation circuitry has a rich history going back to the 1950s. Inductors can be found in the signal path of many high end vintage recording consoles, outboard EQ, bass and guitar amplification and effects pedals."
