Get to grips with the Roland TR-1000 – Producer's Guide

video upload by MusicRadar Tech

"Unveiled earlier this month, Roland’s TR-1000 was always going to cause a stir. This flagship drum machine sits at the top of Roland’s line-up, with a top-end price to match. It’s the first Roland drum machine in more than 40 years to feature analogue sounds, with 16 circuits that mimic those of the iconic TR-808 and TR-909.

To focus solely on the TR-1000’s analogue elements would miss a lot of its highlights though. Alongside these sounds, Roland’s behemoth also features sampling, flexible effects, digital percussion sounds and a well-equipped, creative sequencer.

In our video, we explore the basics of the TR-1000 workflow and explain a few of our favourite creative features, including resampling, timestretching, the Morph crossfader and the master effects.

In this video, we’re using the TR-1000 alongside Erica Synths’ Bassline synth. The TR-1000 is sending MIDI clock to the Bassline sequencer, and the Bassline is routed into the TR-1000’s rear panel input and routed through the Master FX unit.

In this video:
01:40 – Sequencing basics
07:20 – Resampling a drum loop
19:17 – Drum layers
23:05 – Sub steps and probability
24:52 – FX routing
28:45 – Morph
32:23 – Variations and fills"

Synthesizing with Moog | Lesson 3: Vibrations

video upload by Moog Music

"Sound is a phenomenon of vibrations in the air. In this episode, we look at the source of vibrations on the synthesizer – the oscillator. We investigate how to tune the oscillator to a particular note and how to add oscillators together. We also dive into the topics of harmonics, looking at how the shape of oscillation creates distinct tones with different harmonic characteristics.

Written, hosted, filmed, and produced by our team of electronic musical instrument experts, this new seven-part educational video series makes learning the fundamentals of synthesis accessible, engaging, and inspiring for anyone curious about science, music, and how the two worlds converge. We set out to create a series that brings you as much technical knowledge as it does entertainment and joy as you watch each episode!

We invite you to follow along with us at home with a printable worksheet corresponding to the contents of each weekly episode. https://inmusic.to/bdhnff3m

3 Fun things your stand-alone synth can’t do

video upload by Monotrail Tech Talk

"Working with a modular feels very different from working with a stand-alone synth. In this video I go over three tools that make the modular stand out to me. Thy are all tools I have been using for a long time, and recommend looking into when you are new to modular."

This live modular is fun but needs to change - here's why

video upload by mylarmelodies

"I built a case for a demo of the Bohm kick module (video out soon), and took the opportunity to test out some live case ideas and modules I wanted to try. This video is like a hangout where I talking you through it, explain new modules I tried which you might be interested in, and what I plan to change, and other relevant ideas besides. 👉 / mylarmelodies 🙌"

Process, Loop, Mangle, Play! - RYK Time Slice Demo

video upload by Stazma

"Today I'm very happy to show you Time Slice, a four channel audio buffer manipulator that I had a lot of fun trying out.
This thing is a beast, it's as much a sampler / looper that it is a sample player and a real time effect processor, but even better it can several of these things at the same time!
All this was done on beta firmware so the sound got cleaner in the release version ;-)

Have fun!"

Sounds Only // teenage engineering EP-133 & Polyend MESS // Dream, Glitchy Jam

video upload by Noisegate

"A quick jam on the EP–133, this little sampler is way too much fun! This idea turned into a full-on mood once the Polyend MESS got involved. Dreamy, glitchy, and way too exciting to stop playing with."

Continuous vs. Discrete | Theremin and Granular

video upload by Blue Forest of Wires

"We explore the space of the continuous with the Theremin, and the discrete with a system of granular synthesis built from the Electron Octatrack, Monome Arc and Eurorack modular. The modular uses the Befaco VCMC control voltage-to-MIDI module to trigger samples on the Octatrack at high speed, enabling granular synthesis in a way that the products' designers probably did not originally intend.

Giving this the Halloween label even though it's not marked as such. Spooky stuff. :)
