"Hello, everyone!

Here's to you my 'No talking demo' of the amazing VAVRA, a FREE software emulation of the Waldorf Micro Q by "The Usual Suspects", which brings back to life this iconic synthesizer!

'The Usual Suspects' is a group of people who are currently Reverse Engineering and Emulating the DSP chip from original historic hardware synthesizers, which, in this case, is the Motorola DSP56300.

As is usual with The Usual Suspects releases, you’ll need to provide the original ROM, legally acquired, of course.

The architecture, signal flow, and character closely follow the original hardware, making this an absolutely faithful Waldorf Micro Q recreation in software form.

Figuring out the circuitry of old DIY drum synth

"I play it manually at 3:23 and run it with a step sequencer at 4:17.

This is another un-documented one from the vaults - one that I, for some inexplicable reason, have not made any written information about.
So in this video I go through it and find out how it is made.

The music is 'No Hollywood movie', originally recorded by Lesley Hamilton, that was a hit in Germany in 1978. Same year it was recorded in Danish by Gitte Hænning as 'Hollywood drømme' and in German as 'Von Hollywwod Träumen'. I play it on my Yamaha HE-8 organ with Korg Rhythm 55 drum machine - but I probably didn't do a very good job since YT couldn't recognise it..."

"This piece was created using ‪@KORG_INC‬ microKORG S, ‪@teenageengineering‬ OP- field, and NTS-1, forming a simple synth-pop crossover track.

On the microKORG S, melodies are performed while switching between different patches. The output is processed with reverb via ‪@strymon‬ blueSky.

The rhythm is handled by the OP-1 field, while the bass is played by the ‪@KORG_INC‬ NTS-1. Both are triggered via MIDI sent from Ableton Live.

Although it does not appear in the video, the Nord Lead is used to play harmonic parts, with reverb applied through ‪@gfisys‬ Specular Tempus."

"Chaotic patch with the A-112 sampler!🪩🤸‍♀️

In this patch the A-112 is used as a lofi effect in the feedback loop of the A-119 Spring Reverb. All sounds are out of the system!
The bassline is a combination of the A-110-2 Basic VCO and the A-124 Wasp Filter. The A-188-1 BBD is used as a Karplus-Strong synthesizer.

"My friend Simon (aka mosaictapes on Instagram) came over the other day, and we were toying around with the Sines app on Norns. We added some noise options, including modulating the frequency with noise, giving this lovely instability to the sound. Then added two sequencers: One wave based and one stochastic drift based. Here the drift sequencer slowly plays the sine waves, represented by the bars in the Grid (sorry about the cable in the way!). DM me on IG if you would like a copy of this edited script.

I added an evolving bass drone on Atrium - something that's super easy to do with the internal gestures and LFOs. Cocoquantus has a little loop of the Norns, then there's Oto Bim and Boum, and Walrus Audio Slöer just off screen. There's no talking here, and no changes in the patch - I just thought I would leave it running for you to enjoy / mong out to 🫠🫠🫠

Exploring OXI ONE: Lazy Ambient Jam w. Moog Messenger, Vermona Perfourmer, Prophet 12 & Eventide

"'Sunday Excursion' is a relaxed ambient jam built entirely around two sequences from the OXI ONE.
No composition. No arrangement. Just hands-on exploration and letting the hardware talk.

🔁 SEQUENCING

The OXI ONE runs two independent sequences:

Sequence 1 – Rhythm / Pulse
– Matriceal mode for controlled randomness
– Drives a Moog Messenger mono synth
– Acts as the rhythmic backbone of the piece

Signal chain:
Moog Messenger → Klark Teknik KT76 → Korg DL8000R → TC Electronic Fireworx

Sequence 2 – Melody / Texture
– Linear mono mode with probability-based notes
– Drives a Vermona Perfourmer in round-robin poly mode
– Each voice slightly different for subtle movement and width

FX:
Vermona Perfourmer → Eventide Eclipse

🎹 LIVE PLAYING

On top of the sequences, chords and textures are played live on a Dave Smith Instruments Prophet 12.
The patch is a slow, restrained pad with a simple overtone structure.

FX:
Prophet 12 → Eventide H9 (Blackhole)

This is not a 'track.'
It’s a documented session exploring how the OXI ONE interacts with a few quirky synths and late-90s / early-2000s rack FX.
