u-he CVilization Mode IV: Quadraphonic Panner

u-he

"Mode IV offers a 4-input to 4-output mixer with dynamic panning i.e. crossfading. Ideal for distributing audio between 4 loudspeakers, Mode IV is also great for other tasks. Signals at the 2 CV inputs can modulate positions with varying amounts and polarities per channel. Mode IV also features 'Auto-Pan' and 'Auto-Hop', so you don’t even need an external modulation source to move signals around. Mode IV can process Audio or CV signals, making it a highly creative and versatile tool for any Eurorack system.

u-he CVilization Mode II: 4 x 4 Sequential Switch – Audio & CV Signals

u-he

"Mode II offers you 4 Sequential Switches (1 per output): Each sequence lets you shuffle the 4 inputs, a static CV or random CV value to the outputs. The gain of each step can be adjusted individually. On top of that, there is Sample & Hold, quantization, glide as well as different playing directions... All adjustable per sequence.
Mode II is suitable for audio and CV signals, so you can use it as a versatile rhythmical audio signal shuffler or as a CV step sequencer with optional random steps!

u-he CVilization Expert Features: User Scales

video by u-he

"CVilization lets you record two different kinds of user-scales: ‘Basic Scales’ and ‘Volt Map Scales’. While the former divides 1 V into 12 steps and maps each to a note within an octave, the latter maps a sequence of notes (voltages) across 1 Volt, in the order they were played. 8 preset scales can be edited, replaced and saved. You can restore the original factory scales at any time. User scales open up a host of creative possibilities: You can use a CV/Gate Keyboard or other chromatic sources to play your scales. Also, you can use LFOs, envelopes, sequencers, random CVs etc. to create sophisticated self-playing patches!

u-he CVilization Mode III: Quad Mucorder

u-he

"Mode III turns CVilization into a 'Quad Mucorder': A 4-Channel CV step recorder that can mutate your sequences. Record, play back and overdub on all 4 tracks simultaneously! Quantization with 9 scales, advanced clocking options including Bus Gate, clock division, glide and sequencer reset can also be added and adjusted individually for all 4 tracks. If you like your mutated sequence, you can save it, replacing the original sequence."

u-he CVilization Expert Features: Matrix Rotation (Mode I)

video by u-he

"This time, we're looking at Matrix Rotation, an expert feature of Mode I, our 4 x 4 Matrix Mixer. Using the CV-A and CV-B control inputs, you can shift or "scan through" the 4 signal inputs and outputs. This can be done smoothly or in steps, depending on the Control Voltages you're feeding into CV-A and CV-B. In this video, we'll show you how to set up your CVilization module accordingly. And of course, we'll be walking you through the Ins and Outs of Matrix Rotation (pun intended!)."

u-he's Urs Heckmann The CVilizationist

The CVilizationist HeadphonesMix Published on Aug 9, 2019 Urs Heckmann

"This is a special mix using Sennheiser Ambeo software to recreate the spatial depth of the original quadraphonic mix.

All sequencing and quantization (time & pitch) is done using one CVilization in Mode III (with a tiny bit of help from Brains + PressurePoints). A second CVilization mixes and animates four voices of melody and percussion in its quadraphonic panning mode (Mode IV).

Some of the live action apart from mixing, filtering, triggering and sound design is recording new sequences into CVilization, and setting mutation depths to evolve these sequences during playback."

CVilization - first prototype test run

Published on Apr 28, 2018 Urs Heckmann

Side project from u-he's Urs Heckmann.

"CVilization outputs 3 and 4 plugged into V/octave of two oscillators. Two voltages from Pressure Points plugged into CVilization inputs 3 & 4. Moskwa Sequencer plugged into CVilization input 2. Clock plugged into CVilization second CV input.

CVilization outs 3 & 4 quantized to minor scale, sample & hold from clock input.

First: Mixing input 4 onto outputs 3 & 4, so that both oscillators are controlled from one input (Pressure Points bottom row).

Second: Mixing input 3 onto output 3, to control the interval of one oscillator to the other (Pressure Points middle row).

Good for some noodling around.

Third: What about different depth of control? - Instant extra fun for noodling!

Forth: Adding input 2 (sequencer) into both oscillators. Which of course can be done at different depths as well for some nice variation.

Fifth: Changing depths, changing sequencer clock (Euclidean Circles) and direction (Forward - Pendulum).

Then, going back to minimum values."

u-he - Urs Heckmann @SUPERBOOTH 19

Published on May 10, 2019 Superbooth Official

"Last year we presented a glimpse of CVilization, our first Eurorack module. At that time we only had one of the operation modes working, and we were still thinking about future modes. Twelve months and a few board revisions later, we now have all four modes up and running, we are fine-tuning the firmware and are cautiously gearing up for beta-testing.

I will be presenting CVilization’s Modes III and IV, the so-called “Sequence Multiplier” and the Quadraphonic Mixer. The sequence multiplier transforms CVilization into 4 independent 16-step CV channels which can record, mutate and transpose sequences. The quadraphonic mixer takes four channels of audio or CV (24bit 96 kHz, +/-10V) and lets you mix, auto-pan and CV-pan them across the 4 output channels."

Bleepy Machine Groove

Published on Apr 21, 2020 Urs Heckmann

Urs Heckmann of U-he software on heurorack.

"4 Oscillators FMing each other through CVilization acting as 4 x 4 sequential switch.

This is an experimental patch that I wanted to try for a while: 4 Oscillators are plugged into CVilization, which then is plugged back into the FM inputs of the oscillators. CVz' Sequential Switch mode then distributes a different oscillator to FM any other with each clock step, resulting in complex FM patterns.

After some tweaking, at some point I found this bass groove which kind of seemed noteworthy. As I hadn't set this up in a proper studio, I simply used my phone to record the video while tweaking. I reckon the lofi video experience matches the randomness of the music quite nicely.

Patch Notes:

CVilization in 4 x 4 Sequential Switch mode
MI Grids for rhythm and clock
4 x Mini Mod Osc by AJH, feeding through CVz into themselves, and into 2 VCFs/VCAs for 2 dual voices with 2 VCOs each
Filters by AJH (Mini Mod) and Make Noise (QPas, used in stereo)
VCA by Intellijel (uVCA) and Make Noise (X-Pan)
Intellijel Quadrax for envelopes, triggered by Grids
Additional sequencing and by Xaoc (Moskwa, Tirana)
Erica PicoDrums for base drum
Xaoc Praga for Mixing
Erica PicoDSP for reverb
Alright Devices Chronoblob 2 for delay"

Urs Heckmann (U-he) Superbooth 18 Rehearsal (Live Modular Performance)

Published on May 2, 2018 Urs Heckmann

"Reahearsal session of my CVilization showcase on Friday. The goal is to get a lot of mileage out of an 8-step sequencer (Xaoc Moskwa) without changing the sequence, but by scaling its voltage before quantizers for different voices. In addition, doing some noodle like I did in the previous video.

Sorry for some scratchy distortion in the middle. I thought I had had the headroom, but...

My apologies for the mandatory noise-phaser intro and outro."
