"Animation by Josiah Norton
Check out more of his awesome work here: scribblesandsketches.tumblr.com

Welcome to the first video in my new Gear Spotlight series. The goal is to create a song using one electronic instrument each week. I wanted to start with a challenge, so here is my song, composed entirely on a Arturia Microbrute. One voice, no presets. Each sound completely made from scratch.

It took a while and some research to figure out how to get the drum parts sounding close to something drum-ish, but in the end I think it all turned out good!"

Cool Games Inc. Main Theme // Social Science - Maxo

Published on Mar 8, 2017 Ace Waters

"McElroy Madness continues! The next two weeks are only gonna feature one of our wonderful brothers, but I am lazy and didn't want to redesign a logo for them, so deal with it. This theme has a lot of chords in it. A LOT. too many chords. That is all I have to say about that. If you don't listen to it, check out Cool Games, Inc. Griffin and Nick Robinson brainstorm games. Its hilarious. Two more tracks to go. Next week I am doing to be going in a more impressionistic direction. And then we are gonna end everything with quite the adventure. See you next time. No problem fun?"

VGM #120: Korok Forest (Breath of the Wild) *ZELDA MONTH*

Published on Nov 3, 2017 Ace Waters

"And so it begins. Sorry this one was a little late, I had an insane weekend after finishing up the Sonic LP, and needed the extra time to get back to a place of creating. This year, I am gonna be doing a theme of sorts for Zelda Month. You will probably pick up on it pretty quick. To start off, lets go to one of my favorite tracks from BoTW (IT HAS A REAL GOOD SOUNDTRACK, MR. ERUPTION) the Korok Forest theme. I based my arrangement off the night arrangement, and kind of took it in a neon synth direction. Like a late night drive through the future. But its also a forest in a fantasy game. Anyways. Enjoy!"

VGM #125: Ice Cap Zone (Sonic the Hedgehog 3) Chill Synthwave Cover

Published on Dec 5, 2017 Ace Waters

"This was probably my favorite unreleased track from Gotta Go Slow, so I wanted to share it with you once we made it through Zelda Month! I tried to combine my favorite things from synthwave, ambient, and post-rock. I have actually already covered this track as well, so this was a re-arrangement. Got my good friend Kyle Von Lanken back on the guitar!"

Bon Iver - Flume (Ambient Glitch Cover)

"I originally fell in love with Peter Gabriel's cover of this song. Sunday night, I was putting my son to sleep and listening to For Emma, Forever Ago and was really inspired to do my own version of this song.

I use vocoder to create a vocal line similar to Bon Iver's signature layering. I ran my tempest and my analog 4 through Korg Kaoss Pads to further add to the glitch sound I was going for. I really wanted to break up the patterns in the rhythms as much as possible, while filling in the space with the various synths, guitars, and bass. I hope you enjoy!"

VGM #117: Sonic Heroes (Electro-Pop Cover) Ft. Good Blood

Published on Oct 10, 2017 Ace Waters

"I got two more vocal covers coming for the Sonic album. I got the idea to create a 'Kanye/Bon Iver' crooning pop track out of this song, and I knew the perfect bearded boy to help me make that a reality. Javed, from Good Blood and The Punch Kids KILLED IT on the vocals. Hope you enjoy!"

VGM #84: Heartache (Undertale)

Published on Sep 7, 2016 Ace Waters

"Clever. Verrrryyy clever.

You think you're really smart, don't you?

In this world, it's kill or be killed.

So you were able to play by your own rules.

You spared the life of a single person.

Hee hee hee....

But don't act so cocky.

I know what you did..."

Up - Married Life // PIXAR MONTH

Published on Aug 23, 2017 Ace Waters

"This was the hardest song to arrange. I changed my mind several times in the process, wanting to make sure that I captured not only the emotional resonance of the original, but in a way that really connected with me. In the end, I opted for a slower arrangement. One that might not follow the exact flow of the original, but still attempts to capture all of the moments and emotions. I hope you like it. I put a ton of work into making this exactly how I wanted it, and I hope it shows."

VGM #63: Northern Hemispheres (Donkey Kong Country)

Published on Jan 13, 2016 Ace Waters

"∞ I wanted to do something nice and atmospheric, and I have wanted to do this song for a long while. It feels good to be back in the Donkey Kong Country series. Expect more to come from this iconic OST.

∞ Because I know there will be questions about it. The euro-rack (the box with knobs and wires) is used in two ways in this video. The first is to create the wind noise, and the second is to generate the droney bass tones. I am also using the beatstep pro (which is a sequencer) to control my arturia microbrute, as well as various parameters and modulations on the euro-rack. You will be seeing a lot more of this device, and all the cool things it can do in the future."

VGM #108: Flower Garden (Yoshi's Island) Synth Pop Cover

Published on Jun 13, 2017 Ace Waters

"This was actually another song Allison asked for back when I was choosing her birthday song, and the idea of covering it kind of stuck with me. I wanted it to be fun, with lots of throwback vintage tones. The bass/lead at the beginning is one of my favorite patch combos ever."

Blade Runner // End Titles [ S Y N T H W A V E || C O V E R ]

Published on Oct 3, 2017 Ace Waters

"I am a big, big fan of Blade Runner. The aesthetic, the lighting, the surreal telling of a story about identity, and of course the music from Vangelis, someone I get a lot of comments in comparison to. So, here we go. From a soundtrack that I regularly draw inspiration from, heres the end credits song, Blade Runner."

DSI Prophet-6, OB-6 & Tempest, Moog Voyager XL, Yamaha Reface DX, white KORG Arp Odyssey, and Elektron Octatrack.
