Dirtywave M8 + Bastl Softpop 2 Jam (Recorded 6/6/22)

video upload by Space Town

"hey everyone! been a minute - we have been very busy with work and travel so I haven't had much time to make videos lately and we are a few days away from leaving for chicago for a few weeks so I wanted to get this lil' jam with the dirtywave m8 and the bastl softpop 2 out quick before we left

i'm still learning the softpop 2! it's my first semi-modular with such an involved patchbay so instead of patching my own stuff I basically stole a patch from soffter demonstrated in the video here:"

Video game mood music with Dirtywave M8 Tracker

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A full performance on the Dirtywave M8 Tracker, using its synths, sampler, sequencer, and effects.

At the end of August, I went on a trip, my first proper holiday in about ten years. I brought two small pieces of gear with me but used only one: the M8. I had expected to find the M8 too static or non-performative to be enjoyable, but I was drawn in by its fantastic sounding synthesizer designs, sampler with lots of editing and control, lush effects (reverb, delay, chorus), and workflow that led to new ideas. The M8 fits well in the hands, feels good to use, and has a great battery life. It's the perfect portable idea machine for me at the moment, easy enough to stash on any outing, and powerful enough that its sounds are inspiring.

This video isn't a 'jam' by any means, simply me pressing play and letting the M8 go. This is the M8's biggest drawback, in my opinion: it isn't conducive for live, dynamic performance. But that said, I imagine that I'll be using the M8 to create stems—it has a stem export feature—and then loading the stems into something more performative, like the Octatrack. It's a great little idea machine and gives me fodder for jams later.

If you're looking for a portable device for coming up with musical ideas, the M8 might be a good choice.

Thanks for listening.

The recording has EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

How to make some guitar lofi beats on the Dirtywave M8.

video upload by Avrilcadabra

"Workflow for making some lofi with guitar on the Dirtywave M8

#m8tracker

I guess this is intermediate skill level, I gloss over a few things most people familiar with the M8 should know, but feel free to ask in the comments if you need help with any of this.

My presets can be found here wowflutter (broken walkman preset) - https://www.dropbox.com/s/hk600odh69i... Avrilcadabra preset packs - https://www.dropbox.com/s/tt22qvn6o4v...

The M8 ships with some of my presets but I have made a truckload since the M8 was released."

Hypersynth on Dirtywave M8 with new ADSR envelopes in 3.0

video upload by Avrilcadabra

"This is in the soon to be released Firmware 3.0 for the M8

This was filmed on Beta 0, 16 beta's later we got to RC1 and it should be ready for full release soon.
Uploaded from my phone (direct audio though) but I will post a bigger video on 3.0 soon with better audio and video.

This is the new Synth engine, it is called Hypersynth, it is a 13 saw engine, 12 saws and 1 sub.

It is designed as a chord engine, the saws can be split in stereo pairs across 6 pitches to make 6 note chords in a single track.

also now ADSR envelopes are in the M8. Which makes playing with a keyboard a lot of fun. So here we have 8 instances of hype synth (104 saws 8 notes were held on midi keyboard)

Thought it would be amusing to use the virus to control it."

Therapsid hard synced PWM 6581

video upload by Avrilcadabra

"This is a Therapsid from Twisted Electrons which was sent to me to make a demonstration video (this is not that video) as there are very few videos on it and I love sid chips and c64's I'm like Bane except I was born into Sid pulse width modulation instead of darkness. I have had it for over a month now and have been working hard testing pretty much every day to make sure it does everything it is suppose to do and everything a c64 fan might expect it to do. Some issues are still present as of this video but are being worked on. It is open source and I suggest anyone considering one go and read the issues section on Twisted Electrons github to see what bugs remain and what future enhancements might be coming.

while this works as just a very nice retro sounding hands on synth for those that are not commodore die hards it can be sequenced multitimbrally as shown here and controlled with cc's. As of this video I am still waiting for glide to be fixed to work multitimbrally (each voice glides independently and works fine in the main mode in

This is just a test day I filmed. without any care to video quality. Expect a full demonstration of this synth in the near future.

In this video the Therapsid is being sequenced by the Dirtywave M8. I'm pointing to the individual voices as the m8 turns them on."

Uptempo jam with Midicake ARP, Dreadbox Nymphes, Moog Minitaur, Mother 32, MSW-810, DrumBrute Impact

video upload by Jay Hosking

"A live synthesizer jam performed entirely on hardware.

I've had this chord progression kicking around for a little while, the product of a voice-leading exercise I was doing. I was super happy with it but never able to incorporate it into a larger arrangement. Recently, I realized I could just run the chord progression through the Midicake ARP and get some inspiration on the song arrangement, and sure enough, that was all it took (along with a few amazing synthesizers and effects). Really happy with where this one ended up.

Full disclosure: I cut and paste a previous drum fill to the outro drum fill, because I felt the outro drum fill didn't match the quality of the earlier one. Seemed a more judicious approach than recording the whole thing again.

Thanks for listening.

Dirtywave M8 - chord progression sequence
Midicake ARP - four-part sequencing arranger for the chord progression
Kenton MIDI Thru - MIDI Thru out to five devices
DrumBrute Impact through Empress EchoSystem - Drums
Moog Mother 32 through Kinotone Ribbons - Slower mono synth
Michigan Synth Works MSW-810 through Hologram Chroma Console - Faster mono synth
Moog Minitaur through Boss DM-101 - Bass synth
Dreadbox Nymphes through Empress Reverb - Pad synth

Performed and recorded live (minus that small drum edit) to a multitrack recording, with EQ, compression, and limiting on the master.

Omx-27 Midi Controller gets M8 Mode

video upload by Avrilcadabra

"The Omx-27 now has a dedicated M8 mode for the Dirtywave M8.

The OMX-27 is a cool open source midi controller that pairs really well with the M8 and now even more so.

Make sure your M8 has firmware 2.7.1 or higher.

I have not tested with headless version of M8, but everything but the oscilloscope mode should work (it is a hardware m8 only feature)"
